Why LEGO Doesn't Make Military Sets

  • LEGO doesn't make military inspired sets, but they are totally cool with
    Star Wars and Indiana Jones. They might portray some mature themes, but they are works of fiction and fantasy. How much time needs to pass until historic military machinery from our world are allowed by LEGO?
    They could be a good medium to promote historical education.
    I hope you enjoyed my take on a "vapid" thumbnail.. I'm just like everyone else!

    The military LEGO secondary market has always been so huge, even before the heyday of LEGO Star Wars. I guess it's because military buffs appreciate dioramas.

    Cobi is a great alternative if you want LEGO-like military themed stuff. Sure, their figs look a bit goofy but the prices and the vehicles themselves are superb. I already have 5 vehicles from them: a Tiger I, a Kv-1, a Tiger II, a Messerschmitt 262 and the Easy Eight Sherman! Not to mention the really accurate guns that they have. If you really want to, you can buy stickers and helmets online for regular minifigs and give the Cobi weapons. The plastic is *really* good quality too.

      I've seen a little bit from Cobi and the figures are indeed pretty goofy haha. Unfortunately I'm still a LEGO purist, so I get my WWII aircraft fix from aviation art.

    Before i made a choice into collecting Lego, i really wanted to collect the military like you mentioned, but it's WAY TOO EXPENSIVE, so Star Wars, it was 😂 love the video 👍

    I think they should make military sets but as a 18+ set

  • @TheColosiss
    @TheColosiss Před 7 měsíci +2

    I think Lego should just make some 18+ sets that commemorate the greatest war machines of all time. The possibilities are numerous to say the least. Everything from the land, sea, air, and now space could be used. Many of these sets would be purchased by family to honor their services; or to remember dark times in History that should not be forgotten.
    The WWI German massive artillery weapons are begging for a 7,500 piece set. The various bombers used throughout history would be awesome and could be made in various sizes. Then there is the awesome variety in boats. I know my family would be very very interested in a faithful recreation of the U.S.S. Hornet in minifigure size. I know I'm not alone. Many would want something to remember family.
    The other great part about the 18+ line is that History would be forgotten less. So many do not know what happened just 100 years ago. With some dioramas that highlight points throughout history, things could be very different. People would have another outlet for appreciate and understanding. The mini-fig scale behemoths of war would simply baffle most people's mind due to the scale. Most do not realize just how MASSIVE some of these hunks of iron are.

      I totally agree, especially for 18+ icons sets. I can understand LEGO not wanting to make modern military models. but WWII seems reasonable to me.

    If, on the one hand, I understand the Lego policy, on the other hand I not only find it hypocritical (see Star Wars, but also the castle sets), but also strange.... the Adventurers sets contained many firearms and the setting it was more or less that of Indiana Jones.
    In fact, this line was part of the Lego trend of the past, where the lack of licenses was made up for with own versions of one brand or another (I'm thinking of Space instead of Star Wars, or Lego Dino instead of Jurassic Park/ World).
    Furthermore, this ambiguous decision to exclude sets with military elements does not only concern modern eras, but also ancient ones... a History themed series has never been developed, when it would have enormous appeal among not only enthusiasts, but all of audience that Lego is aimed at... and it is not even necessary that only soldiers are present: an ancient Rome themed set could very well contain two legionaries, a vestal virgin and a senator, just to give the public easily recognizable characters.
    The CMF line has recently started to offer mostly semi-historical, fictional characters that are not related to reality: the mummy from four years ago is not exactly a guinea fowl and the knights like the black falcon falconry have their roots in Lego history than in the one with a capital H.

    Oh damn it's a recent release!?! I remember fighter plane attack but I am so friggin' buying this fighter plane chase!
    edit: also to answer the question, I think the policy is distasteful. Yeah, kids will play with the sets, but that's how Lego is? I think it's valuable both for education and just the simple beauty of human engineering to enjoy. They could totally do it respectfully, make 18+ sets of even just the vehicle itself and never a battlepack or army builder.

    I totally agree with them not making historical play sets I don’t think getting a Panzer IV with spring loaded shooters would be the best idea, but making +18 style sets is actually really good idea, I’d love to get a big space shuttle style B-17 even a technic warbird or M4 Sherman would be amazing.

    eh I think you're missing the forest for the trees my guy, it's one thing producing a set of characters in a movie, even if they're nazis, in context they're the bad guys, its another to create an einsatzgruppen battle back set

    • @DarkBluishGray
      @DarkBluishGray  Před 7 měsíci +2

      I think you totally missed the point of this video. I make note that Indiana Jones is fiction and not particularly historically accurate.
      Star Wars portrays many mature themes that on the surface seem to violate LEGO's policy on violence according to that 2010 report, but Star Wars is also fantasy. I'm asking for 18+ LEGO icon sets of Aircraft.. not SS squads..
