I just got started with my 780G on Monday and it is still in manual mode but, even in manual mode I have had it suspended insulin delivery too help prevent me from going low…Tonight (Wednesday night-Thursday morning) my pump is set to go into the Smart Guard mode and I can’t wait! Oh, another thing that I really like is the bolus wizard. It simplifies everything. The final thing I love is that I don’t have too inject my insulin!

Wayne if you are concerned about going low perhaps you should have your Endocrinologist adjust the settings on your 780g! I had my Dr do this and it’s a lifesaver! Best of luck to you👍

I upgraded from the 770G/G3 to the 780G/G4 and it’s a huge improvement! When I was diagnosed with T1 52 years ago, diabetes was ‘managed’ with test tubes of urine and multiple injections per day. I never dreamed this technology would exist in my lifetime. Thank you, Medtronic!

As a new user to the 780g, I feel like I have a responsibility to offer my own perspective on my experience so far. While the pump and the sensor have been two wildly different experiences for me, people considering Medtronic's 780g need to know that currently you can only use it with Medtronic's Guardian 4 sensor, and this is where the problem starts.
I can't put into words how awful my entire experience has been with the Guardian 4. Applying it is awful. They tell you that you'll likely need help to apply it to the back of the arm which obviously isn't feasible for everyone. They also tell you in the videos that it's designed for arm use. For me, the first one failed after five days. Removing it took ten minutes and was both stressful and painful. It felt like an enormous step backwards from the Dexcom G7 and Medtronic need to know that. I cannot believe how much of a step back it is.
I can only describe the overall design [of the sensor] as hostile to users. It's as though this was cobbled together in 24hrs and rushed into mass-production with absolutely no regard for the people who might be using it. Even the video on how to apply it is hard to follow. Whereas the G7 takes less than a minute to take off and replace, the Guardian 4 took about 15 minutes and that doesn't take into account having to charge the sensor and the 2 hour waiting period that follows before you get readings again.
A 2hr warmup period compared to Dexcom G7's 30 minutes AND a 12 hour grace period after it stops. Plus, the G7 lasts for 10 days. For the love of god, folks. What are you even doing?
I will say that the medtronic 780g is a great pump, and I suspect that it is definitely a better pump than the Tandem. That needs to be said. And yet the guardian sensor is single-handedly making me regret my decision every single day.
The good news is that Medtronic is releasing a new sensor in 2024 and I can only beg them to move faster on the issue as the Guardian 4 is a disaster.

Does it measure blood glucose or interstitial fluids?
Is it easier to share to family via the smartphone or Apple Watch or app now? I’m frustrated it’s so behind Dexcoms ease of app use.
Setting multiple blood glucose targets is nothing new.
What is the temp basal set at? I use this while sleeping. 150?
    Thank you Medtronic.

Hi there. Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) is a monitoring tool that uses a glucose sensor placed below the skin to continuously measure the amount of glucose in your interstitial fluid. The result is sensor glucose (SG) which refers to glucose (sugar) that is present in the interstitial fluid and is measured by a glucose sensor. As for the app sharing, you can share your CGM readings with a care partner with our CareLink Connect app. Finally, with SmartGuard you and your healthcare provider can set your target to 100 mg/dL, 110 mg/dL, or 120 mg/dL. Temp targets can be used for other times or needs, like during exercise.

This system is remarkable! I was autocorrected throughout my night with no sleep interruptions last night. I stayed in range the whole night. Great improvement over the 770. Thanks Medtronic!

To much taping involved. Sensor and transmitter should be one piece.
