    Do not forget that people from the surrounding communities also take advantage of the free music and entertainment at the squares. So it is possible that people who aren't even residents could be the instigators. But stuff happens when there is a lot of booze flowing and not many police people around.

  • @LivinlifeinVillagesFlorida

    It’s the villages, still the real world, not Heaven. There will always be bad apples & assholes. Also, you can’t reason with a drunk. Not worth your time. Better to just move away. Sorry this happened when you were showing your visitors around. Just have to enjoy the 98% of great people in the villages & stay clear of the 2% people that might not be so nice.

    144,700 population as of 123122. Rude drunks ruin everything. Miserable being sober around a bunch of drunks. I’m the sober one. You may never experience this again. Timing is everything. Sorry your guests also had to be exposed to this. It happens everywhere. The city I live in has approximately 86,000 residents and, I’m sure, far more crime than The Villages.

    I think your observations are spot on, but it like to toss another out…squares are loaded with visiting people who are in vacation/party mode. After a night of bad behavior they don’t wonder or concern themselves over what sort of fool they made of themselves in front of neighbors & community.

    If somebody cuts in front of you, tossing their hair everywhere while drunk the thing to do is walk away. Not pointing fingers because I wasn't there, but for you and your friends to yell and literally push someone back makes you partly to blame for that altercation. I don't mean to ruffle any feathers saying that but just walking away in that situation is the only solution.

      I don't like the fact of all the rentals in that place, plus Airbnb's. A lot of people are buying up those houses as rental units. That's a turn-off for me because , let's face it, most rental people don't give a damn. My husband and I almost bought a condo on the lake here, and then found out it's 15% rentals, so we backed out of the sale before we even got to the paperwork.

    Like you said, The Villages is bigger than cities like Syracuse. It’s like a big city. It’s no surprise that there would be crime with such a big population. But, it’s a huge minority. A city this size would have a much higher rate. Was this a resident? A lot of times, it’s someone from outside the bubble, or a child or grandchild of a resident responsible for crime.

    • @insidethevillagesbubble5095
      @insidethevillagesbubble5095  Před rokem +1

      I'm guessing the woman was a resident because she yelled "I live here" at us. I am sure that our crime rate is less than most comparable areas. There is a small percentage of troublemakers and yes, a lot of crime reports state the perps are from the outside. A lot of adult children living with their parents too.

The saying stands that, ”Alcohol and gunpowder don’t mix”… maybe, especially now days, a better and more relevant caution should be that “alcohol and egos don’t mix.” Who among us has never once, regretted letting their mouth overrule politeness and good judgement? Mature and wiser folks anticipate the relevance of common sense, and choose the times to put their ego in their pocket, and bring out a bit of grace.

The drunk woman grabbed my wife's arms (And left bruises) and pushed her in which time I separated them. I never shoved her back or got out of hand with her. I yelled for security but none was in sight. Things escalated when she came back with her husband/boyfriend. At that point there was still no sign of security until after they left.

    OH NO, A HATE CRIME!?!?!?!?! God save us all. Seriously, every crime is a "hate" crime at the time (the two parties are NOT in love with each other in that moment). As mentioned below: 1) Walk away from drunk people, no reasoning with them; and 2) TV is not heaven, but with certainty the crime element and crime events are minuscule as compared to other communities (cities) of this size (140k+). That the squares are accessible to the public is an important consideration.
