    We live near the Villages & visit with friends there . Last night in fact. I have to disagree with you on the diversity issue. We rarely see children or teenagers at the events we attend. I saw one person of color at the restaurant last night & he was part of the wait staff & absolutely none at the square. This part of Florida doesn't roll out the welcome mat for minorities, for sure. And don't get me started on the golf carts.

My husband has been disabled for ten years and our kids live nearby to we can see them often and they will help out. Otherwise it sounds great to me! I just try to keep busy with friends and activities in the community where we raised our kids.

    Not an HOA, it is an amenity fee that covers all the things to do, not covering things like lawn care, roof care etc. our Amenity fee is 180 a month. When we came 6 yrs ago it was 145. Our home owners insurance was 800 six years ago, now 1700.

    • @angelamasson-fashionover50
      @angelamasson-fashionover50  Před 6 měsíci

      Historic inflation has occurred so I understand why they had to raise the rates. None of us want them to cut corners on what we get for that money. I think they only raise the fee on your move in anniversary date because ours is still $175 but others are claiming they pay as much as $189. Or maybe they raise it in January if they are needing to raise it but in our case, January was was also the month we moved in.

    This video must be to promote sales. We have lived here in the newest section 2 years. There is minimal, and I mean minimal diversity regarding skin color. The area is mostly Christian with only 1 or 2 Jewish Temples all the way to the top of the Villages. However, there are Jewish folks here. Yes, you see kids at the squares and it’s sweet, however, they are usually grandkids and the squares are open to the PUBLIC. So, they are very crowded. We are the only entertainment around, therefore Wildwood and Leesburg residents come as well. The Essential Learning classes sell out in 20 mins. Classes such as cardio drumming, line dancing and water aerobics require you to show up in line 1 hour ahead or you don’t get in. There are pickle ball snobs and many groups require a rating. So, you need to register to be rated. There are younger people here in their 50’s. Many in fact. So you may not be playing pickle ball much as there are formal groups taking up the court times. We love table shufffleboard. We found out while our family visited that there is a 20 minute limit! That’s 2 games. Everything is scheduled. Everything! You feel like playing table tennis, wait until Saturday at 12 noon through 3:00 p.m. Or, you may find what you want in a rec center 20 miles up the road. Unless you golf a lot, you could find yourself refusing to get caught up in the crowds and staying home much too often. By the way, there is no gym here included in your amenity fee. Be advised You can join their gym for another $400.00 EACH annually. So most flock to a public gym nearby in the square. Then those are crowded too. The Villages is beautiful.. nothing like it. Most people are very very nice but you will need to work at getting into a group of neighbors for friendships. Many people have friends here already or family nearby. It’s hard to beat the beauty.

    It is easy to be offended that people define diversity mainly as race when you aren't the only person of color in a setting. My husband is extremely comfortable in White settings, but we have experienced subtle exclusion in settings that are a vast majority White. We went on a Viking river cruise and he was literally the only Black person on the ship- including staff and crew. While some people were hospitable and warm, others were not. So while I agree that diversity is more than just race, it is a significant issue for some of us to find a place that is completely welcoming.

    • @annejoyner3729
      @annejoyner3729 Před 6 měsíci +5

      @@hd4100 I respect that you are trying to recognize people for their character and sometimes a person's race/ethnicity has had major impact on their actions. For example, until I met and married my husband, I never understood why some people would run from the police unless they were guilty- it seemed like a respect issue when in fact, prior interactions of their own or ones they have witnessed would create real fear and the smarter decision was to get to help. I was surprised when I heard my husband teaching his boys how to respond to a police stop- it was "be polite and respectful", but it also included keeping their hands at the top of the steering wheel at all times- something I had never considered or been taught. Some lives are a bit more complicated than others- and it isn't all about race and sometimes it is.

    Good overview. If you add the cost of the bond to the HOA, it starts to add up to real money monthly. I live in central Florida close to Disney. Insurance rates have skyrocketed since I move here 8 years ago. And if you have a roof over 10 years old, you must get a new roof or be dropped. If you guys are paying only $1,200 for insurance, you have one heck of a deal...but you'll be paying a lot more shortly. We are experiencing yearly rate increases of about 45% per year, in some cases doubling. Automobile insurance is also very high and jumping. Also if you have a golf cart, you must have a policy on that too. Home owners insurance won't cover it or the liability. But the cost of that isn't bad, anywhere from $100-$150/yr.

    • @angelamasson-fashionover50
      @angelamasson-fashionover50  Před 6 měsíci

      All valid points but we just got our home insurance bill and it only went up modestly. Ours cars are insured in Michigan where we still live but I heard the rates in Florida are high. The development bond is a fair point and amounts to about $100 a month because we lucked out on the cost of the bond. It didn't even play a role in us picking which Village to live in, we just were very fortunate. Some areas are just more expensive for The Villages to develop than others. Don't overlook home values. To date anyway, people have made a very good return on their investment in The Villages though that is not why we bought here.

      There is a village in Waterloo. But no great weather. There are apts, towhomes and other side of the campus is retirement style living, and then a nursing home. Allows couples to live close but apart if needs are different. Lots of tours trips to take with them, but MO golf course on site. I looked up a studio apt, no meals, a nerve 4000 a month. Cough cough.

    My house insurance in TV is about $300 more than what I paid in MO for my 28 yr old home that I paid less than $100,000 for - however, my car insurance is ridiculous - $2, 500 for my 2008 Prius and 2012 ACE rv - and I have excellent credit and no accidents. Amenity fee is now $189 (I bought in May 23) but still a bargain for all you get. Clubs usually have a fee equal to or less than what you'd pay anywhere else. Almost everyone is here because they want to be, not because of their job or happenstance. I choose to be here where I can walk on level, smooth pavement, have beautiful views, good weather, and meet some of the nicest people. I can't count the # of times I have pulled over to check directions and have had someone stop to ask if I need help .

    My friends moved to The Villages 5 years ago and loved it, but are moving to their new house south of Orlando next month. They are ¨so done with it¨ she said. Their biggest complaint is the rapid expansion south of them which is causing congestion on the roads and crowded stores. The distance to the big box stores is far, along with other little things.
    There are tons of activities if you will make use of them, they just play cards all the time and don´t golf so are tired of paying for activities they aren´t interested in.
    When I visit I always leave with an unsettling feeling; there is something unnatural about everybody I see being old. When we went to church outside of The Village, it was a sea of white hair, hundreds of people. They saved two pews for families.
    There are thousands of people who love The Villages. Be sure that´s something you want because it is not for everyone.

I'm sure you have to summarize your house down there just as much as you have to winterize your house up north, but how hard is it? No one has done any videos on this topic at all, the only "cost of living" videos are done by full timers, so any info you can give me would be great, thank you in advance.

Yes, living coastal is more expensive, but we'd rather move to Broward or Dade County, where we can be closer to the Ocean. Coming from NJ, we are about 45 minutes inland from Atlantic City, and would prefer that for our future retirement home. Always construction going on, lots of people on expressways that either drive 30 mph or 130 mph and costs of homes has become prohibitive. To live in a good neighborhood down there expect a small 3/ 2 ( around 1200 sq ft) to run you around $500k. I have lived in both counties and moved north on the coastline and are much happier.

Lots in the Villages are really small like 7 or 8,000 feet which is expected in a retirement area. Someone posted the fees which are quite a few and have to be considered with the mortgage. The community areas do not require you to be a resident so anyone can go there. People can annon complain about anything at your home so kinda worse than a HOA. Thank you to both of you. This is such good information. I wish I was able to move down sooner then later. I'm Canadian so its a bit more difficult for me.

    Well I have lived here for 23 years and I love it. The only thing that you said that I can’t agree with is the amenities fee. Ours is now 187.00 per month and in 2001 it was 95.00

      Interesting. Our's is still $175 so I am guessing they either change it once a year on your move in anniversary month or in January. In our case, January is our move in month. We'll see in a couple months what it does for us. Either way, we get a lot for that money and with historic inflation, the rate either had to go up or services needed to be cut.

    Watched the video and really liked the subject.
    I decided to follow the channel only to find out that it is for ladies fashion over 50 😂😂😂
    Anywho, I washed the second video about the village. Enjoyed both videos.
    I already follow a fashion over 50 for men lol. Maybe a second channel is in order 🤔
    Thanks for the video and maybe I’ll be there in five years.

      You will LOVE TV! Be sure to visit Edna’s on the Green to listen to live music under the moss-covered oak trees, Fenney Rec Center - walk the nature trail (short) and have lunch at Fenney Grill… visit the squares and enjoy the live music and meeting new people!🤩🥳

      Be sure to check out other CZcams videos, particularly those that talk about the negatives as I have learned they talk about things that you likely won't hear from most people and aren't as obvious so you get a complete picture. Moved 2 mo ago after buying a lot and building a home while visiting for a few days. Nice community, friendly people, clean, safe and lots to do, but regret moving so quickly on buying and not doing a lifestyle visit AND a one month rental to really get a feel for living here and deciding if the lifestyle is for both me and my partner.

    I moved to the country to get away from people. So I’m not sure that place would work for me. I don’t really want neighbors. I live in Georgia, and there are either white or black cars here. I’m not sure why they don’t like other colors of cars here. Where I used to live there was an HOA. And I don’t really want to move where they have them. I love the peace and quiet I have here most of the time. I know people are Republican around me. You can tell by their Trump signs in there yard. And my congresswoman is Marjorie Taylor Greene. I’m sure you’ve heard about her. But that’s okay. As long as no one bothers me. I won’t bother them.

    I think the things MOST retired people desire in a "retirement" community are SECURITY and SAFETY. For those who can afford it, The Villages certainly provides these things. Something I found amusing was when a couple's daughter was passing through and wanted to stay with them overnight. They told her it was against the rules., because she was not yet 55. She said, "Are you telling me I need to get a Fake ID at the age of 53?"

    I moved next door to the Villages in Summerfield Fl. A 55+ place but gated and not in The Villages. I like it here too, I don't golf so I like that I'm not paying for that feature with my dues. I do live on a golf course though and the wildlife is very relaxing. Also, the homes are not new, made in the early to mid 2000-2010s but are farther apart and have more privacy (without needing walled fencing). Great to be in this area, near The Villages (but I've lived in Florida most of my life, so I like Florida)!

    You got lucky with insurance. Ours went up double over the past few years with no claims. Our utilities are underground and we’ll build communities. We can’t figure it out
