As a physician I apologize for my profession. The way that ER doctor spoke to you was horrible and sent you down the path of hopelessness. I too had a struggle with back and nerve pain. It was 5 years ago and I basically had to diagnose and cure myself. I went from a fully functional person to almost an invalid in a few weeks time. Mine was directly related to menopause , but no one would believe me. I told my doctor to prescribe me a hormone patch, because what did I have to lose at that point. 80% of my pain resolved within 2 weeks. Estrogen is neuroprotective. The rest resolved over time. Off and on I will have some lower back pain, but totally tolerable. I am glad you are better. I wish my profession was better and specifically when dealing with female patients. 😥

That is an amazing story. I am so glad you are now pain-free! In May of 2020 I went through surgery in Ann Arbor to remove an 11 lb mass that had grown in my right abdomen which then resulted in a full hysterectomy. I was told it was not cancerous.....just to be called 6 days later To say I did have cancer. I went to a local cancer center & was told I had stage 4 appendicel cancer with 2 to 4 years to live. No surgery just chemo til I die. Since I live in MI, I went to Chicago cancer center for a 2nd opinion. They gave me 4 rounds of chemo, did the hi-pec surgery on me where they remove all the cancer they see & put heated chemo into your abdomen for 90 minutes. I then had 4 more rounds of chemo. That was 2 years ago.......my last scan in November showed I am cancer free!! Praise the Lord. I know it was all the people praying & my faith in God that brought me through. We all have a story & I'm so glad you are thriving & feeling great!!

    Dear Angela,
Same with me, but my acute pain was for 20 years. I had to school my children with it, many times lying down. I could not go to lunch with friends, or church as I could not sit without pain. Many Christians looked down on me for not being “ healed”. ( Their belief was that I didn’t have enough faith!) I am in less pain now after a double fusion, but I still have to live a very limited life. I am thankful for every little pleasure now. I do not take for granted anything! Rev. 21:4 and James 5:11 are my anchor. There is no earthy sorrow that heaven cannot heal.❤

Found your you tube channel this afternoon and watched a few of your fashion over 50 episodes. Then boom!!!!!up popped your one on your life of over 4 years of pain. I am 76 in June and live with osteoporosis, my first fracture was in my late 20s. Now have been going thru several fractures over 14 at my last count......listening to your story has given me so much hope. I try to live a healthy life, eat right, have lots of hobbies, live in the country on a beautiful river. Try to stay so focused and careful.....and then there is that split second when......you sneeze, turn your body wrong, slip or misstep.....and wham...fracture! The pain is excruciating, life goes backwards several steps until healing begins. Then forward ...march! I just have to focus again....and STAY FOCUSED. Thank you so much for sharing your story and your success, it has helped my mind to "focus" again on my recent setback and my 2nd day of healing again.

Resilience is so important. It’s incredible how our mind and emotions dictate our bodies well being. Good for you. You are such a lovely open hearted person. Hi Angela, I just starting watching You Tube over a year ago and this month found you. You exude joy and your story is that for a time that joy was gone. The mind is a powerful thing the Lord has given. If you ever fell down & in a funk He also gave us His word, the Bible and that is FULL of hope. The psalms are prayers said back to God and when it’s hard to pray I go there and the words speak my heart.

I’ve just recently found your channel, Angela, and have enjoyed them all. But today I came across this video and I am deeply touched by your honesty in sharing your story (and you are an excellent story teller, btw). I’m over 20 years older so my story is a wee bit longer (2 back surgeries, stage III ovarian cancer back in 1995 and I just lost my husband of 55 years in June. I am trying to find my way in the world again and I’m starting by flying to Germany to visit family. Yes, I was born over there. After that, I really don’t know, but like you, I know that what you focus on, grows, so I’m staying positive and taking it one day at a time. Thank you for sharing.

Angela I was in a cat accident and I had pain on but down my leg. Aftet countless injections and no relief pain med did not work except the pain made me not care. I had herniated disks bulging discs and spinal stenosis. I had it for 3 yrs so I went to get a second opinion. Again I was going to have to live with it. One surgeon said I would be paralyzed. Again my attorney referred to any surgeon Dr. ATLAS WELL HE SAVED MY LIFE. SINCE THAT TIME I GOT A SECOND SURGERY BECAUSE SIATIC CAME BACK ON OPPOSITE SIDE. DR. ATTAS performed a second and fixed everything. But second surgery was very invasive
All previous metal hade to be removed. Now L1 thru L5 are fused and attached to cylinder. The rods had to be removed. Best thing I could have done. I am now 67 yrs old and no back pain. I went through this journey when I was 50 yys old I thought if I have to live this way I would not survive. I can sympathize with you. God bless you in your journey looks like your own your way for a much better life pain free.

The mind body connection is so powerful. I have struggled for many years with multiple spinal issues from an injury when working as a surgical nurse. The pain has worsened every year and I recently had an ablation which burns the nerves causing the pain. Feeling worse but giving it a chance because they said it can take weeks before you feel relief. As you know chronic pain robs you of joy and your life in general which causes depression. It is hard not to focus on the pain when experiencing it but I will try to find a way to reroute my negative feelings with a new purpose.

I actually went to Mayo Clinic because I couldn’t believe it. I am not going into detail, i could write a book! But the word MINDSET has come up twice today In conversations I have had. Because I refuse to let these diseases control my life and I get up every morning even if I don’t feel like it and try to be productive in some way or help someone else. I was diagnosed with breast cancer (no history of it in my family) at 46! Mastectomy, chemo, radiation, reconstruction. Took 2 years out of my life constantly treating. It’s been 16 years since I was diagnosed. (More major surgery a year ago to remove the reconstructed implant which had gone bad!). BUT I worked while going through those 2 years because it gave me a reason to get up. My co workers were so positive and supporting. It was a way to take my mind off myself and what I was going through. The power of positive thinking, surrounding yourself with positive people, the power of prayer and good doctors got me through a terrible time in my life. And it does make you see what is really important and what you can let go of or not let stress you out!

I have evolved from a horrible situation myself. 5 years ago our 28 year old son ended his life in the garage of his home. The pain from that experience almost killed me. I started getting physical pain and felt so much anxiety all of the time. A couple of years of heavy grieving went by..when one day I thought to myself " Dusty wouldn't want this for me.." I started focusing on helping others more and also taking the steps to take care of myself emotionally and physically. I started working out which helped with both. Like you said..I had to adjust my mindset. I still have some really bad days sometimes, but I pick myself and keep trying. For me, my family..and my son in heaven. Thanks so much for sharing. I have a similar story, and I too am grateful for my back pain. After months of back/sciatica pain of 8-9/10 I decided to retire from my remote Nurse Case Manager job at age 64.
I had put off my mammogram for a few years. So now that I had time, I scheduled one. After several imaginings and a sonogram, I was biopsied on my left breast. It came back positive for Stage 1 adenocarcinoma. I noticed a little vaginal bleeding after the breast biopsy and scheduled a GYN appointment. He noted uterine thickening and after further testing and a biopsy I was diagnosed with Stage 1A Uterine Cancer. I hadn't been to the GYN in 6 years. I had a left breast lobectomy in January and a total hysterectomy in March. The cancers were not related. My lymph nodes for both surgeries were negative. I completed Radiation in June and am taking a hormone blocker. I am blessed.
I feel my back pain was a wake up call to take care of myself. I would probably have ignored getting my Mammogram and skipped my GYN appointments. My back pain was an 8/10 through out all surgeries. My last cortisone injection only gave me minimal relief and I finally started considering back surgery. I was scheduled for a CT scan in preparation. The morning of the CT scan I woke up with my pain a 3/10. I slept a full 7 hours. I went back to PT to help with my gait and climbing stairs because my right leg was so weak from the pinched sciatica nerve. I have now graduated from PT and continue to work on my gait and strength on my own. I think my back pain told me surgery was not for me. It is a blessing.

Thank you for sharing your story Angela! CZcams has been a similar healing agent for me as well. I was stuck in my life. Carrying 100 extra pounds - feeling like a failure. I started my channel sharing my needlework on a whim one day and have continued for 3 years - slowly learning and building friendships and relationships with like-minded women all over the world. I had been so isolated in my situation. I got the confidence to address my health and am now 75 pounds down. I am a new person. I also built such a support group that losing my mom 6 months ago felt like I had a network behind me - praying for me and just being amazing people. I thank God for CZcams because it brought community into my life and a joy that was so unexpected. I pray you continue to experience healing and joy. Blessings, Cynthia

John Sarno is a doctor who teaches about resolving pain, particularly in the back. He reveals a mind/body connection. If you have emotional pain, it can manifest as physical to distract your mind from dealing with the emotions that are too painful to face. When you lost your sense of purpose, you may have manifested that pain as a self-distraction. When you found a new purpose, the pain resolved. His books are very compelling, as he started as a back surgeon who then found surgery was not healing most people...Praise God you are pain-free and living your newfound purpose! Many blessings!

Thank you, Angela. Your story is compelling and you are a wonderful story-teller, mostly because of how real you seem when you are talking. It takes a lot of courage to reveal ourselves, and life does have some difficult lessons, or at least maybe the lessons come in difficult wrappings, so to speak. As someone who has spent a good part of my life dealing with a handicap known as epilepsy, which produced violent seizures, especially after I went through menopause, I empathize with you deeply. My seizures are, at this time, controlled, so I feel very lucky and blessed. I also have sciatica intermittently. I can't even imagine having non-ending pain of the type you speak of for 4 and a half years, but you must be a very strong person.
I had started watched your videos recently, to get ideas of how to get a bit more style in my life, and I came upon this one. You won my heart with your story, and I sincerely wish you every blessing! From Gale in Vermont.🌻

Angela, you have told your story from the heart, it was awesome. You know, the battlefield is in the mind. The enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but the rest of that verse says, that Jesus came to give us life and give it more abundantly. The enemy wanted to steal your joy, and he did for a period of time, he wanted to destroy your hope of ever being whole again. When we take our mind off of the problem and the enemy can no longer have control over our mind and our bodies, he has to leave, and that is what happened. When comments like that are put on you blog
remember that the enemy is again coming against you in the area of your mind. He again wants to steal your joy, DO NOT ALLOW him to do that. When you start to read those nasty comments, STOP ✋, do not continue and block that person IMMEDIATELY. Don’t let those seeds take root. I enjoy your channel and MANY others do as well, keep that as a thought it will produce good fruit.

I highly recommend Dr. Fuhrman's teachings. It sounds radical but I have just followed the diet in his books and it got rid of all of my health problems. The thing is it didn't happen right away and the stricter I got with the diet the better the results. He also has a retreat in San Diego if you have the funds to go.

It wasn't until I started exercising and doing back strengthening exercises that made a real difference. I even starting inversion training, which I truly think makes a difference. Now 30 years later, I am a personal trainer and I love helping others who are in need of knowing how to exercise and strengthen their bodies to stay healthy and feeling the best they can be. You are a great storyteller. That is what you are- a storyteller. In fact you don't "opening boxes" you tell shopping stories. You literally have a job telling stories and people listen. That is pretty powerful. The story you told today was a familiar one to me and so many other women whose children started growing up and away. It is so difficult. It happened to me right down to the back pain. I had a golf cart injury and got addicted to pain killers and had to go through withdrawal and teach my back not to spasm. . It is so difficult to talk about the psychological factor because people will mistakenly believe the pain isn't real and we both know those spasms are earth shatteringly real. Your mind can master them though and that is what you did. Knee instability is the same way. You are walking and your brain gets afraid and sends a message to collapse support to prevent injury. The exercise to correct it is so simple. You just contract the quad and that teaches the hamstring to relax and presto the problem stops. The problem is all in the brain but you can teach your body to be less afraid. It is the same with the back pain. You did conquer your back pain and you did it through your art which is storytelling. Thank you! :))

Angela, your story - testimony is absolutely amazing! As I'm sitting here listening to you this voice pops into my head. My grandmother who lived to be 97 yrs old, had a saying. She said "Your mind is very powerful, it can make you or break you". Now let me say this, her faith was Christian Science, in those 97 yrs, she had only seen a Dr one time. She had gotten pneumonia and was literally drowning in her own fluids. I can remember my Dad asking me to talk with her to see if I could convince her she needed to go to the hospital. Well...it took some doing and me telling her that Dr's were given the knowledge to help those who help themselves. I reminded her of her very words that she instilled in her family about our minds but that it was time to let someone take care of her. Long story short, she went to the hospital, recovered and lived another 10 yrs. Any time I have doubt, pain, confusion or just struggling my Grandmother comes to me and reminds me once again about my powerful mind. I'm so glad you found your purpose and through that you found relief and peace! Thank you for sharing your story!! ❤

I was so surprised to see this video. My back was really killing me, too. Went to the specialist, and he wanted to give me physical therapy and antflamitories. Wouldn't even consider giving me a MRI, until I did these things. I decided to try to work it out myself. Started walking/jogging, taking a rowing class and put myself on a calorie deficit diet. I lost 30 pounds and have 10 more to go. It is much better but not completely healed. If it never gets completely well, I know I can handle it now. People say, "How did you lose that weight?" I always say pain is a great motivator. I just found you, and I am really enjoying your videos. You are a great motivator as well but a much more pleasant one. 😊

Luckily my parents were visiting at that time, and my dad drove me to the ER. I also needed a wheelchair to get into the building. 18 years and a few non-surgical treatments later I'm still dealing with pain frequently.
