He made so many mistakes calling.
Ray didnât last on TV as he couldnât lie.
On Radio he could get stuck into a player that might be playing poorly because the listener couldnât see what was happening.
But when you canât watch the TV, he canât tell his porky pies.

We have loads of great callers up and coming and legends why do.we have to obsess over who's the best. Everyone of them have their strengths and weaknesses.
I'm long time listener of continuous call team and enjoyed it in all its forms.
You know youre a busy man when you wear 2 watches.

A great commentator makes the game more enjoyable. After 40 years of watching/listening to rugby league, for me Warren Smith wins easily.
Respect for good friends stands out. Love the call 'Where's Frank Hyde, I love Frank and I hate you.' You could love or hate people for no good reason sometimes.
Blocka Roach is my favorite commentator also.
Doesnt get the credit he deserves. People write him off as a dumb prop but his footy knowledge is second to none.

@Aquatic Mullet I reckon he would be a good tour guide also, sought of like Merv Hughes with the Cricket, he can relate to everyone and sure have a few beers as well.
Blocka was a great radio caller doesn't suit modern day TV calling IMO.
John Gibbs was also Hadley's co-commentator for about 10 yrs...and they won the ratings together..but Ray's still filthy about Gibbs jumping ship when they lost the rights...so Ray doesn't mention him at all

Lovely to hear professionals on Ch 9.
You have to feel sorry for Alexander, Roach, Flanagan, Parker or anyone who has to sit within ear shot of Voss if they can last the distance with Fox coverage.
His constant voice modulation (read screaming, shrieking) and interruptions to play during which you get opinions on hair colour (good if you like Pepe La Phew), hair styles (great if you are auditioning for FuManchu), coloured boots, moustache types and sizes and of course a predilection with players ages (mentioned 3 times if you are 20, 4-5 times if 19 and innumerable times if 18 or less) is curious.
His "style", no doubt learnt perhaps as a "spruiker" for the hourly auctions in George Street, part time work in the "carni" section of the Easter Show and as a prepubescent in the Johnny Young drama school really falls well short of the mark.
It is a pleasure to listen to the Poms on SuperLeague and even Gallaghers Cup for the other code as opposed to the facile and puerile Voss offerings where sets go on completely ignored while he rabbits on (sorry Ray Warren).
It was terrific to hear the incisive and relevant commentary between commentators like Alexander, Roach, Ennis, Smith and Russel.

Timing for this interview is a tad off.
Is this some type of reward for Hadley because he went on 360 the other day blowing smoke to help protect Vlandy's and the other big wigs fixing the NRL season 2021.
