    London.
Various shots show Mayfair hairstylist Henry da Costa creating new hairdos for teenage girls; he coils Evelyn Lees' long hair around the back of her head and fastens it with a brooch, then carefully tweaks her fringe into place - very gamine! The short hair of Barbara Prime has gold lacquer painted on in streaks; Jackie Syms has a green chiffon scarf pad pinned under her pony tail and a necklace placed on the top of her head.
Two identical twins show a before and after style; the first has a waved hairstyle; the second has the same, with a false chignon attached to the back.
Note: on file are notes on the footage shot. Henry's salon was at 109 New Bond Street.

I bet Barbara had all kinds of fun soaking her hair in acetone to remove the nail polish. There's no way that would wash out with shampoo.

It's not nail polish. It's a type of temporary hair dye. It washes out very easily.

I just use a matching powder eye-shadow with short bristled cosmetic brush ... also use it around the facial hair-line. I learned this tip from an interview with a top model in a magazine . 🙂

IKR? I don't know how many of those guides actually exist. I know Madame C. J. Walker created some guides in her era, but I don't know how long her company did that. (It was purchased sometime in the '70s.)
All I know for sure is that a number of women in the 20th century wore protective styles, often braids, under wigs.
(From a 1a person who glows in the dark, but loves the beauty and history of natural hair, in all its difficulty and complexity.)

1950s hair styles and fashion were boring as hell. 1960s were the way to, early 1970s too. It all went down the drain in the 1990s and is still sitting there.
