    If Martins stays healthy for the next 3-4 years, I think will be mentioned in the same lines as Brian Shaw & Big Z. He is a true strongman. Absolutely no weak events. He performs well in anything and everything. That consistency is what makes him stand above the rest. Tom Stoltman and Mateusz Kieliszkowski have the physical gifts but they don't necessary do well in most events. Both of them are strong in some events but terrible in some. Only Novikov comes close to Martins.

    I love Martins, he's a great champion and seems like a great guy but to have the Haugen stone as the final event isn't really fair. Martins trains with Odd Haugen at his gym and has a lot of opportunity to train with the stone. A quick CZcams search and you can find Martins practicing with it in 2017. Some of the other athletes would have been lifting it for the first time and the event is incredibly technique dependent. You could tell Martins knew exactly how to approach the lift where others couldn't work out how to get it off the ground.
    Martins probably still would have won with a different final event but the least you can do for the other athletes is give them a level playing field.

    Martins shows he's here to stay, and I'd say he's the top dog right now, he knows how to peak and perform. He had a legendary performance on the stone, and showed out on both the Log and Timber Carry.
    Tom shows once again he's a quitter, and needs way more experience at other events other than Giant's Live shows. His technique went out the window for the dumbbell, couldn't finish the Timber Carry, and straight gave up on the Stone To Shoulder. That WSM name isn't holding a lot of weight for him right now. At least Luke fought it out and even won an event after placing dead last on squat.
    Bobby did fantastic and was one of three to shoulder the stone, impressive getting bronze. He was SO close to getting the American Log Lift record while he was at it, and it was a shame they had him at reserve before.
    Luke redeemed himself after starting off at 10th on the squat, his weight jumps were a mistake and he didn't do what he could. I thought he'd be top 5.
    Rob surprised me, then disappointed me. Being on top after 3 events was very good for him, but dropped the next two events like I thought he would. His squat was the most impressive event for him, getting 2nd.
    Maxime did around what I expected, came mid-pack at most things and then surprised me by SMOKING the Timber Carry. He needs to improve his dumbbell and he'll make waves.
    Trey disappointed me as well. He bombed the first two events where I thought he'd stay top 3 in. His weights were low, and the dumbbell seemed like he just wasn't there that day. His log redeemed him a bit then literally only budged the frame an inch. He could've shouldered the stone with a little balancing.
    Markov did halfway decent for being new and undersized. I thought he would do more on the dumbbell considering how good he actually is. I expected him to do basically what he did for the rest of the events.
    Novikov showed out and maybe would've won if he did well on the Timber Carry. Great squatting, good log, legendary performance on the dumbbell, shows he's nowhere near the rest of the pack, on top of a mountain in that event. With what has been going on in his home country, I thought he would falter a bit because of the stress and what he's been going through, but he actually outperformed himself. Deserved 2nd place and prize money.
    And lastly, prayers for JF. Very unfortunate end to the show, and sucks when he actually has a chance to do damage and show his brute strength, he gets not one problem, but two problems. He maybe band-aids his shoulder to do the rest of the show, then gets what looks like to be a tendon snap. I heard it when it happened, and it could've been a patella tendon. He's the Canadian terminator with an injury history that doesn't make sense as to why he's still here, but he's still a top Strongman today at 39. Hopefully he will recover and still compete at the world level.

      I think Tom is a quitter in the sense that when he doesn't do well he goes soft even on events that he could win however, when you're a wsm winner and capable of winning major shows, when you're not in contention for even a podium finish then there's no point going all out and potentially injuring yourself, Brian Shaw does the same thing, and I think the day Brian Shaw turns up like he did in 2011 willing to die for the title is the year he gets his 5th title

    • @a-a-rondavis9438
      @a-a-rondavis9438 Před 2 lety +1

      @@Scott-jk5zk I'm trying to find a moment in which Brian did what Tom did. If Brian's actively injured, he puts up more of a fight than Tom does when he's pouting. There were athletes in this contest that had no business being able to get to the podium after a certain point, yet fought, like Trey, Maxime, and Markov. You just complete a show with grit and show what you're made of to the Strongman community. I always want the best to perform their best, and it's always a big blue ball moment when they don't, especially when it's all mental, like with Tom.

    • @thorthewolf8801
      @thorthewolf8801 Před 2 lety +1

      Regarding JF and Tom, I always believed being strong is more than just your muscles. You have to be mentally strong as well, if you are not, then you get Tom. I know he is autistic, but this performance highlights what Im saying. And not just mentally strong, but you have to be a good tactician to know how to do things, what weights to go for, I think Novikov is an excellent example of that, while a negative example is Luke on the squat. Finally, physically strong is not just your muscles, but everything in your body. Its always a shame when someone gets injured, I hope JF will recover asap, but if you get injured, you are clearly not the strongest. Injury is part of the sport.
