    36:20 Complementary Challenge the Stats: Another commander which should really use Opal Palace more is Verazol, the Split Current; that card is only in 25% of the decks, and it really should be a staple; as you are bound to cast Verazol several times during the game AND he synergize really well with the extra +1 counters.

    As a big believer in Wheels I have issues every time that wheel type draw is brought up. Everyone always mentions how you are “drawing 21 cards for your opponents” how scary. What is never brought up is the fact that when you wheel you completely mess with people’s plans and turns. Whenever I wheel I always hear someone go “Uuugh god damn it”. It’s much bigger mental damage that people give it credit for.
    Also if you are playing literally any effect that triggers on either your draws or your opponents draws, it’s massive value that usually outweighs the disadvantages of your opponents drawing cards.

    I just made Liesa and was literally working on her and was grabbing Opal palace then you challenged her stats

  • @SWNJim
    @SWNJim Před 3 lety

    Forget Liesa, it’s all about Licia, as in Sanguine Tribune, when it comes to Opal Palace. I’ve cast her three times, in one turn, thanks to her cost reduction.
    I have Infiltration Lens in my Karona deck. So the choice, every turn, becomes “do I give him two cards or take 5-7 commander damage?” She also has Mask of Memory in the deck. Either way, I’m getting my cards.
    As for the video’s specific topic, I have stopped playing a lot of the cards mentioned. Instead of Read the Bones/Sign in Blood/Painful Truths/Night’s Whisper, I started using Ancient Craving/Ambition’s Cost, eventually going to Cruel Bargain/Infernal Contract. My Mardu decks are already heavily black, so it’s not difficult to pay for the more restrictive cost, the extra life loss is usually insignificant and late game can be less than those other spells, and it’s 4 cards vs 2-3. Call me greedy, but I want that extra card.
    Most of my card draw doesn’t actually say “draw” on them either. With Smothering Tithe, Hullbreacher, Narset, Parter of Veils, and Notion Thief being more prominently played, I’ve largely moved into more impulse draw and effects that “put cards into hand,” like Necropotence, Dark Bargain, or Blood Price.
