In which Rhodesia announces it will rename to Zimbabwe and British steelworkers get a taste of the utter misery that was elected to power that May!
BTW, “Salisbury” referred to here is not the city in the south of England, but the original name of Harare, Rhodesia/Zimbabwe’s capital.

With regards to the Kodak advert: Oh the joy of waiting for your photos to be developed! And then opening the envelope they came in. Happy days.

I can still vaguely remember some ad for Vosene shampoo showing some lad having his hair washed in the bath. I've only ever come across one other person online who remembered it-they said it was run for years.

That Thames weather graphic shows how large Thames Television transmission area was.

On 405 lines VHF (which this seems to be a rough approximation of). 625 lines UHF was about 2/3rds the size.

@@stickytapenrust6869 The high powered Alexandra Palace and Crystal Palace transmitters did get out to quite a good area out of Central London as far as Reading Berkshire in the West, parts of Buckinghamshire, Essex to the East, odd pockets of Kent close to London and as far the crow flies in all directions up to Watford Gap in the North.

@@anthonyperkins7556 You forgot to mention Croydon. London ITV on 405 came from the Croydon transmitter.

The actor getting licks from a golden retriever in the Gillette ad is Gordon Salkild he also featured in a Krypton Factor Identity Parade in 1977 or 1978.

That girl at the end of the Vosene ad is being called over the kitchen sink by her mum to have her washed.

A three-year-old blast furnace was to be decomissioned - a stupid waste. Australia lost its own steel industry about 15 years later.."couldn't compete" (owners wouldn't adopt necessary new smelting technologies - Bessemer Process hugely outdated.)

The young girl in the Gillette advert kissing the old man at 26:30 looks very like a young Amanda Mealing.
