  • In this video I'll share, by my experience, what has been the three most common causes of P0401 on Ford vehicles with a DPFE EGR system. The definition of P0401is "Exhaust Gas Recirculation flow insufficient". Its been my experience that this code is usually caused by a faulty DPFE sensor, clogged EGR ports in the intake, or damaged hoses going to the DPFE sensor.
    Note: This video is not meant to be used for diagnostic purposes. I'm just sharing my experience about what has been the top 3 causes of this code on Ford vehicles with this EGR set up.
    Let me know if you have questions. I'll be happy to help you with more information.

I also bout 8 months ago cleaned the throttle body but only from the intake on top, could it be that I need to take it entirely off and clean it all ? • @BarboursAutoHelp
      @BarboursAutoHelp  Před 5 lety +1

      Anytime I've seen hoses burnt going to the DPFE they were usually the wrong type of hose. The correct hose is made of a special rubber that resists burning. I suppose it could be possible that a clogged cat would cause that though. It makes sense to me anyway. Exhaust temperatures in that are would be higher.

    • @BarboursAutoHelp
      @BarboursAutoHelp  Před 4 lety +1

      I'd say the exhaust leak probably is affecting your fuel trim. P0401 is most likely not caused by the exhaust leak. I'd suspect the DPFE sensor or clogged EGR ports. P1299 sets if the vehicle is over heating. A bad CHT sensor could cause that code but it's more likely that the vehicle is actually overheating. You'll need to figure out if it is actually overheating and why. Hope that at least gets you pointed in the right direction.

      It's quite possible that the egr port in the intake is clogged. If you where to apply vacuum to the egr valve while the engine is running does the engine want to die out on you? If not, and the egr valve is actually opening then your port is probably clogged.

      That’s the hose that delivers vacuum to the EGR valve diaphragm. When vacuum is applied the EGR valve opens allowing exhaust to enter the intake.

      Have you applied vacuum to the EGR valve while its idling. The idle should drop. If it doesn't drop or shut the engine down then your ports are probably clogged. Or the valve isn't opening.

      Yes, I am aware. There are a bunch of things disconnected on this vehicle as it is in a "you pull it" junk yard. Just sharing info about the code. Not my vehicle and I wasn't working on it.
