  • We bought a ratty old Coats 2020 tire machine in need of some love. Let's see if we can make it work without any idea of how to actually run the darn thing!

My boss has the Coats 1010. Didn't know how to use it so he told me to figure it out and here I am.
Thanks man. Got the job done.

Those tire 🛞 beads were pretty 😍 rusted onto the rim. That’s why it was hard for this machine to pop the tire beads off. I sure wish that they’d bring back these old Coats 🧥 tire changing machines into gas ⛽️ stations (tire repair shops). The sound was so iconic, and these old Coats machines REALLY lasted. I bet they could break even the toughest of rusted on tire beads. I just subbed to your CZcams channel!! Your friend, Jeff!!

Got a 40/40 here and works similar to yours. Have a couple tire bars handy for the tight spots helps. Be good for what your doing. Use mine for wagon tires etc. Cheaper than driving to town.

I can see why rim clamps became the standard but this is still pretty cool. Had no idea how they worked before now. Thanks for making this. Good video 👍

Maybe grab a drop center tool to hold the tire in the drop center of the rim, on the opposite side of where you're mounting

Thank you! I suspect the machine needs some love. We may get into it this winter and see if we can get the action to run a bit more smoothly.

2020machine you kick the pedal all the way down it gives A burst of air to inflate the tire..no need for starting fluid explosion😂...

Unfortunately our machine has previously had the bead seat feature deleted.

I've got a 40-40 sa and it's been a great tire machine got it for $250.... It's only dangerous if the operator doesn't know what they are doing or are sloppy and not paying attention....the rust rims were the #1 problem here even. A good rim clamp bead breaker what have issues with junk like that .... I changed tires at Sears for a long time so I know the coats machines well.

When you were fitting a tyre the first thing you need to do is hit the Toulon then with your left hand spin the tire so it grabs the tool keep your left hand around the 8 position and then hit the lever it's too hard to try and put the bead back on by Hand let the machine do the work when you were putting the top bead on put the tool in at the 5 position then push down on the tyre and the 8 position that will ensure that the tire will stay down as it turns around if you notice that it's not going down with your right hand just push it down a little bit and you will find that they go on a lot easier practise makes perfect but if you ever get the opportunity and you'll find yourself a coats 4040 tire machine I would suggest you buy it as for the tyre tearing of chunks of rubber that multi-tool that you use to take the tire on and off they do wear and you may need a new one if you do not want to go down that path you can always buy the plastic inserts to go over either end to protect the tire and the wheel I hope that helps

Top handle needs to go down onto the rim, not on lip = no bent wheel..

Interesting… we’ve done this a few times to give it a little extra umph. Thanks for the comment!

Seems asking prices are all over the place. We bought for less than $300 and out another $50 into getting it like we want it. Should pay for itself in the first year!
