these are an awesome machine I used 1 for over 17 years fitting tyres and recently I had just bought one for home I can use this machine with my eyes closed and change a tire and under a minute even though they may be old these things were built to last
It's served us well for almost 30 years, and it wasn't until recently that we even though about upgrading to a rim clamp machine. Up until last year none of my immediate family had any cars with 18" or larger wheels, but now we've got 4 cars/trucks with 18" wheels.
Started with a 10/10, moved up to the 40/50 and used an FMC 7600 towards the end of our shop. I preferred the FMC as it was easier on the aluminum wheels.
I've seen the FMC machines but never had the chance to use one before. With all the vehicles going to 18 inch and larger wheels I feel getting a run flat machine is in my near future.
Very helpful video for using the Coats 40-40. I acquired one in good working order and hope to demount some old tires and mount new tires on older 15" steel rims in the near future. But most of my rims are not steel and it looks like it may be possible to use this machine with them if proper precautions are taken. Your video, one of the best I've found on the 40-40, will help me greatly - thanks.
Personally I know it really does work great on 12"-16" aluminum wheels. Even without the protective sleeve it doesn't do any real damage if you're careful. I believe it will actually change 10"-17" steel wheels, but the biggest aluminum wheel you can do is 16" without modifications to the machine.
Not much point in using rim protection if you’re going to drag the wheel weights around the rim 😢 always take weights off while you’re waiting for air to come out
I am considering buying an old center post machine like this. Have you had good luck changing tires on aluminum rims without scratching or other problems? This video appeared to be very successful using the plastic gaurds . have you changed tires on like new wheels and etc with this machine? thanks!
Yes it does very well for aluminum wheels from 12" wheels up to 16" wheels, and with the plastic protectors you'll not scratch a wheel being careful. It doesn't matter if the wheel is new or used it's a great machine!
@@krashdown102 from what research I've done it says it's not a good idea to do over a 16.5 steel truck wheels without modifying the machines bead breaker arms. Personally I haven't tried bigger wheels. I have done tires on 16" aluminum truck and car wheels, and the lower profile car tires are pretty difficult to do.
I had to look it up in the user manual. That knob is the "Detent Control Knob - Controls the amount of travel of the lower bead loosener to prevent damage to large diameter narrow wheels and reverse mount wheels." Thanks for subscribing! I've used this machine since I was about 10 years old, and have never used that knob.
Awesome thank you! I just subscribed, I just read through the comments and noticed many people already asked you that so sorry for the repetitiveness with that. What modifications do you have to do for this machine to do up to 20” wheels? Thanks again!
Thanks for subscribing! It's no problem getting the link really. Sometimes the links expire. For this machine it won't do more than a 16" aluminum wheel or 17" steel wheel. I've read you can modify them to do a little bit bigger wheel but it's major modifications that limit the smaller size wheels and aren't easily reversible, so I never really dug deep into what it would take to do it.
Mui buenos días me gustaría saber cómo es el citema de la makina por qué compre una pero es ta desar mada hikiciera po der la armar para poder trabajar con ella le a grades mucho de antemano gracias
Unfortunately I can't really help becauseI'venever taken the machine apart.. I did few Google searches I couldn't find an assembly diagrams to help you reassemble your machine.
I was wanting to ask you what the little round knob is for down there where you pick up the thing to put it on the bead to hold it isn't it a dipstick don't you pull it out isn't her oil goes in it if it is what oil goes in it I was trying to figure out what it goes to in the video it's by your right hand all the way down on the plastic a little round knob it's silver

@@the710experiment84 that little knob to the side what it does you have some wheels which are 390mm some came out on Fords and I think it was Mercedes as well you need to move that lever for it to be able to fit that wheel that's all it does it's only for that one particular wheel I did Tyre fitting for 20 years and use the same machine and I'm just about ready to buy another one for home

wow, i still love listening to this machine its works so good!
Picked up same tire machine yesterday , never changed a tire in my life, thanks to you I feel like a pro! P.S. Maybe less talking in future vids.
Maybe less talking in future vids. That is funny. I didn't really notice he never said a word. Hahaha
a friend of mine now a retired shop owner has this same exact machine I have used it a couple of times the damn thing still works

We've been using this machine since my dad bought it used in 1997, and it's never failed him or I even once.
Sir , have you ever refill the machine's oil !??
Great machine I have the 40-40 SA back up for my rim clamp

cool beans I have not used one of those in 20 years.
I’ve only ever used this style tire machine. One day I’d like to get a rim clamp machine.
Lost count of how many hundreds of tires I did with a 40 40. Built like a tank, never saw it go down.
I've been doing my own tires for 20 years and never balanced them.never had a problem
Nice I haven't been lucky enough to skip balancing mine.
2:30 The machine will do that first part for you, unless you really love getting some exercise!
Yeah, sometimes I just like to see if I can still do the first bead by hand... 😅

Uma máquina muito boa mesmo!!!
Usted la conoce, me podria ayudar c rompio una manguera ,tiro aceite y ahora no se como reponerlo, pues ya no regresa como antes, gracias?
got 2 of these and been using since early 80s .cant do runflats - bead blaster is not available on a lot of new equipment
Man that built-in bead blaster is a real life saver sometimes!
How much air pressure do those tire machines use?
I run it and everything else in the shop at 90psi
We still use ours everyday. Where did you get those plastic ends you are putting on the tire iron?
These really are great machines!
The wheel protectors can be found on Amazon or eBay really cheap.
Where did you get those plastic tool cover you place over the dismount tool at 1:22 in the video? They look perfect for aluminum wheels.
I found them on Amazon by searching "tire machine tool wheel protector"

i think it will take them either 15 inch or 16 inch i dont think it will any thing bigger than 16 inch

My machine is broken,do u know how many litters of oil should i fill the comparison, and which kind of oil, thnx
Unfortunately I don't know about that. Our tire machine is only pneumatic operated.
Does it remove 19" tire?
No. 17" steel wheels, or 16" mag/aluminum wheels the max size limits of this machine according to the manual.

What is maximum rim size you can do
16" aluminum and 17" steel is what the manual says is the max size.
