After playing both an acoustic and classical guitar for the last year and a bit, I have decided I’m definitely more of a classical man myself. However I don’t really fuck with the long right hand nails and holding the guitar upright. I honestly just prefer the softer tone of classical guitars and find them easier to play. Plus nylon strings don’t screech anywhere near as much when sliding up and down the fretboard.

Sometimes steel string acoustics sound so harsh and piercing to my ears, idk if it's the tinny metal sound, the buzzing/snare noise (even when someone isn't trying to be percussive), but it's not as much my cup of tea, though the best fingerstyle artists obviously sound beautiful. I have both types of guitar, started guitar about a year ago and play classical music, some contemporary mainstream covers/tabs and anime tunes on the nylon string mostly. Maybe I'm a softy, I am older lol I just like the clear mellow bass strings with the more subdued high strings.

I was just wondering why because Classical music only refers to music from the Classical Era. There are many other genres such as Renaissance, Baroque, Romantic, Contemporary, and more that can be played on the “Classical” guitar. I guess I’m being a bit anal about it, but it is quite misleading.

    • @axleblaze123
      @axleblaze123 Před 4 lety +2

Yeah classical guitars are referring to the guitar designed by Antonio De Torres. It was mostly use as a way to differentiate it from the guitar of previous era's such as the 5 string double course baroque guitar. The six string classical guitar really only came into it's modern form during the classical period starting with the Austrian Stauffer made instruments.

tuning up every time is a GOOD thing....for your ears and the guitar wood seems to grow into your way of playing...the more you play the better your guitar sounds...ideally get both...at least try out both.
You can actually thrash a nylon, stand up, fit a strap .
The guitar responds to you in time.
leave it alone 2 months and it will need time to sound as good again.
    keep playing solves that!

All the other videos the person always chooses and suggest guitars they like the most but in this case it felt very natural for you- like you didnt pick a side and seriously just explained any things that could or could not be reason why we should pick them and that really helped. I had very very hard time picking side even with 2 friends with guitars giving me suggetions but i think im going for acoustic one. I love how the clasical one sounds and eventho steel strings dont have as pleasing deep tones- it can vary way more. More for pop music and more for brighter and vider range of tones, where clasical seems to also have range but all of them sound in same tone range and doesent go really out of it without sounding pushed. So yea, going the cheesegrader side ( cause my friends told me my fingers will get fked over by stell strings but guess what- TRY ME, IM READY FOR THE PAIN AND SUFFERING 😅🤣)

Because acoustic guitar has much heavier bracing due to steel strings generate double the amount of tension nylon strings do. So if you put nylon strings on a acoustic, the top can not vibrate much because nylon strings are too weak, so the sound produced are tiny and awful . The opposite problem if you put steel string on classical guitar. Too much tension will fuck up the top or even bend the classical guitar after sometime

@ 7:15 You mention that you feel nervous to do percussion on a nylon-stringed (classical) guitar because you were told the top is more fragile. That's legit. Steel-stringed guitars usually have more bracing for the top surface because that extra strength is needed for the increased tension required by steel strings. You wouldn't want the string tension to rip the bridge off.
Also, although it's completely valid to go for an instrument that fits the genres of music you want to play, there is also a lot to be said for breaking rules. To experience that being done in a masterful and beautiful way, listen to these 2 examples, where the guitarists are using the "wrong" kind of guitar. After listening to these 2 pieces, feel free to tell me how "wrong" they sound.

How great is that Dyens arrangement of Jobim?! Don't worry about tapping on the tops of classical guitars built in the Torres/Hauser tradition. I'd only worry about tapping on tops of guitars built on the Smallman design platform (ultra thin top with lattice bracing versus the standard Torres variations) or of the sandwich top variety (e.g. Damann and Wagner - with the hollowed out bass section of the body typically replaced by a honeycomb skeleton of Nomex, and sometime of other wood).

I mean changing strings is such pain in the ass stuff for most beginner . Old nylon string may sound dull, but you can just keep practicing with it.Old Steel string on the other hand , made of metal and can hurt your fingers if it get too rusty , you must change it

You should have both and can play both , end of story. Image go to a friend house and they have a classical/acoustic guitar so they ask you to play something because they know you play, but you only play acoustic/classical exclusively, and I am sure the first time you play the other type , you will fuck up a lot of notes and sound like shit, believe me.
For me I am mainly acoustic players, but I still play on classical at least 1 time per weak

The Classical Guitar is basically a Nylon String Acoustic Guitar, & Willie Nelson popularized it. He calls it "Trigger". The pickup system came from the very first Acoutic-Electric Guitar ever built.

Muy interesante el video. Cada guitarra, cada estilo tiene una razón de ser. La experimentación es buena cuando hace su propio camino.

They are properly called A) Spanish guitar and B) Folk guitar. A) The Spanish guitar is of ancient 19th century design. It has nylon strings, which is good in itself, but has but extremely wide and flat neck, with flat, shallow frets, bad neck design overall, high action, which makes playing exceedingly more difficult - for no good reason. The ergonomics is ancient, playing chords and barring is a pain in neck, the scale is too long for the weak tone it produces, and to play it well, a few years must be spent just to learn proper grip and posture and position .. all because of antiquated ergonomics and horrible neck design. The tone is mellow and beautiful, but weak, dies quickly, chords sound shallow, poor harmonics, and playing demands picking lots of notes to sustain the melody. (B) The Folk, or steel string guitar, has better ergonomics in all regards, more resonant body, narrower neck, lower action, the sustain is superior, playing chords is ways easier, has better harmonics, it allows more music styles, more expressiveness, can be played in any pose or position, the tone is always good etc. If the string gap is too close for you, use a pick, thumb pick, etc.
