That was in the evening, the fish and chips from the Open was gross, I threw most of it away.
Great guide as its so full on and crowded these days compared when I went to Troon in 2004. True what you say about accomodation, we bought a caravan and stayed in Ayr as we couldnt find any decent accomodation for the whole family...a bit excessive but you do silly things to see the Open 🤣
Absolutely David and I treat it as my holiday for the year.
Love it. I lived in Troon for a few years and was a steward at Turnberry for the Open. If you can wangle it, it’s a great way to see everything 👍

@@berniebarnesgolf mine was Bernie but I was in the Navy at Prestwick and our society were invited to help out at Troon and Turnberry.
I just wondered whether they sorted out digs and if you got a good allowance etc

Great guide, only thing I'd add is we walk the course from the 18th to the 1st, so get to see everyone and all the holes before spending the afternoon on favourite holes.
That’s a great point John! Should have mentioned that as we did walk the course before.
Great video and some brilliant advice suitable for any big golf event. Been to 3 Open's and to be honest they're too busy and it's often like rush hour on the tube. Prefer Wentworth for the PGA, a much better spectator experience, and looking forward to going again for our 7 year running. I'd add that getting one of those rucksacks that convert to a small seat are a must, having a seat to use anytime is great to save the aching legs and you can sneak to the front of the crowds and sit down and get a tree at view.
I’ve not done the PGA yet, but it’s definitely on the list! Have you done the Pro Am?
@@berniebarnesgolf Yes a couple of times, very laid back vibe at the Pro-Am. You can get so much closer to the action at Wentworth, and the views are always great as the course lends itself to being a spectator experience, not all links course are like that as they are genally flat and featureless. It's also a much cheaper day out, free parking etc.....
I think that’s the day I’d most like to go too.
Great fun and advice. Although you needed to say drink plenty….of beer and always find a pretty girl to share the umbrella with 😂

I enjoy the practice rounds as well. Players are more relaxed and it interesting to watch them. Someday I will get across the pond to see an Open.

Nice one Bernie , just bumped into Dan at my club Cowdray in West Sussex , shame you couldn’t make it , it would have been great to meet you too .
Unfortunately my mums got Covid (and isn’t very well) so I’m just avoiding people and hibernating at my flat in case I get or have it Nick. He said the course is amazing!

It was good to catch you and Dan on the Thursday, Bernie. I love the Open but I do fear that the prices are getting into that too expensive bracket. I'm going to stick to the practice days from now on I think.
I preferred the practice days if I’m honest. Think I’d do the first two (sunday and Monday) if I had a choice Kev. Nice to see you too Kev.
Thank you Bernie that was good information play golf off and on my whole life but I've never been to a PTA or DP world Tour event I would love to make that a priority next year

Truth now, how much did you spend on food, drink and Open junk?
It’s the only real holiday I get a year and for me it’s worth every penny. Probably averaged a ton a day on food, coffee and merch.
