The North Dome hike in Yosemite is a gem in so many ways. Itâs tough, but not super hard. You enjoy beautiful trails but without the major crowds. A quick side-trip takes you to Yosemiteâs only natural arch, which is worth a visit. There are picture-perfect views of Half Dome from directly across the valley. And then, of course, North Dome offers panoramic views from down the Yosemite Valley up to the high peaks on Tioga Road and beyond. I highly recommend this hike; give it a try.

This was an intense hike as a first time backpacker. Absolutely worth the views though!
HG - Thanks for a great series of videos about hiking my favorite national park. I hiked North Dome back in 1995 and saw only three other people on the trail and only one of them was on the dome at the same time I was (he was there when I arrived and left well before I did). If you want solitude and great views, this is the hike. I want to do this one again, but at age 62 it will take me a bit longer than last time. :-) On the other hand, I hiked the Mist Trail/Clark Point Trail/JMT to the top of Nevada Fall in 2019 and did well enough. That was my 16th time to the top of Vernal and 7th time to the top of Nevada).
Those are some nice hikes, glad they're faves for you too. And give North Dome a try, it's not so bad, prob easier than Nevada Fall overall. I love the (relative) solitude too. I've done this at sunrise and have been alone (until heading back) as well. Hoping to sneak another trip to YNP in this summer and hit some Hetch Hetchy hikes in.

I've never made it to North Dome. I thought I might earlier this year, as an extension to the Yosemite falls hike. Fate did not smile on me though - it was a hot, sunny day and I accidentally left my hat at home. Rather than getting baked on the granite, I decided to head back down. Still on my list to do - maybe next year! Thanks for the video.
Yea, bag it next time. It's a great extension from the Yosemite Falls Trail. Also fun to hit going up Snow Creek. So many beautiful options...

This is a great one fairly short. No water in summer. When you get to where he is standing go down and left instead of to the end. It takes you to the end above valley meadow area. Has a mini forest. But you cannot go wrong in Yosemite.
Cris, Thanks again for this great video and guide via your website. We were able to get a digital entry ticket and spent a few days hiking around Yosemite. Your guide for North Dome was absolutely spot-on! Great advice to save some energy in the tank for the climb out. The view from North Dome was truly remarkable and worth the hike! Your turn-by-turns were very helpful. All of the cairns were knocked over/missing but the trail was still really easy to follow (7/21/2020). A real hidden gem of a hike! ($20 to you via PayPal!!)

Is Porcupine Creek always running? I'm sleeping at North Dome and will need to carry water. The map shows crossing the creek twice, does the second crossing have reliable water? (It's been a low water year and some creeks are dry.) Thanks for your help! Also - do you have a video of Eagle Point back to Porcupine Creek Parking area? Bless you!
I've always seen it with water but I'm guessing end of summer it might be low. All the water is toward the first half of the hike. No video from Eagle Point (yet)
@@Hikingguy I think that the Ranger said that Lehamite Creek should still have water....you cross this before Yosemite creek on the way to Eagle Point. Wondering if you recall passing this one and the water there! Maybe not, but thought I'd ask. Thanks for the videos, I'm a regular Yosemite hiker and I like your stuff.
The views from the top of this hike and Cloudâs Rest are almost the same. So why is Half Dome so popular and not these other amazing hikes? Whatâs the difference?
Yea, Half Dome has the cables which people find as a challenge, but personally I enjoy these other hikes more. People die on the cables too, which is not worth the risk for me. I had a bad experience on Half Dome last year where someone in front of me panicked on the cables, slipped, and fell, knocking me and some other folks over. No one died but it really scared me. And then a week later a girl panicked and fell to her death. In my book that makes Half Dome not worth it. You can use a Via Ferrata kit to make the Cables safer, and I'll have a guide up in the next few weeks for Half Dome with the kit.
