    I have two relatives that have been working as hospitalist for 10+ years and they love their jobs. They went the family medicine route

      Yeah if you find the right group to work with - not bad at all!

    You mentioned your shifts are 7 am to 7 pm , but increasingly many hospitals don’t require you to stay the whole 12 hours. Some places have “Round and Go” models where you basically go home once you are done with your work. At my hospital, shifts are from 8 am to 6 pm, 7 days on 7 days off.

    What happens when you admit a pt on the last dau of your 7 days? Handover to a colleague?

    • @TheMDJourney
      @TheMDJourney  Před rokem +1

      Yep! You admit pts everyday so they all go to the next doc that takes over your team. If I admit someone on my last day - I add them to my signout like every patient. We also get admits from overnight so good chance that doc will also have pts that came from the night team in between both of our shifts.

    As a new hospitalist (maybe one with a decent amount of loans) do you have any thoughts on doing locums or nights? Any plans on mixing in outpatient in the future?
    Also do you like the 7 on 7 off schedule? What do you normally do with that time off? Curious what you think is the best schedule. Thanks!

    • @TheMDJourney
      @TheMDJourney  Před rokem +2

      Honestly, I think the salary that you make overtime as long as you have a plan can pay off loans. But I do intend on taking extra shifts for my colleagues when I need coverage to help boost my income. I however don't plan on affecting my lifestyle or family time by working nights or locums.
      And overall I do like the sevenon seven-off schedule. I do mind myself getting tired around day 5 or 6 of the week. But having an entire week to schedule a vacations, personal obligations, just rest is great. I also don't know any other schedule such as 4-3 schedule that I've seen at other places.
      And during my time off I'm doing a variety of things, including working on new videos and content for this channel, hanging out with my wife and family, training for personal fitness goals such as a recent marathon that I ran, and just relaxing.

      @@TheMDJourney Thanks for the well thought out response! Really reassuring to hear what your saying. Congrats on those fitness goals, that’s super impressive. Keep up with the content, I think you’re one of the best on YT in this space!

    Can a hospitalist treat a Takayasus Patient without looking it up first? If your answer is yes where do you work? This is interesting.
