We were in Naples a month ago. Just about everyone recommended that we not go there. We ignored them and loved it. Great food. Great atmosphere. The city feels very alive. It's not as spectacular as Florence of Venice, but it also doesn't feel like a tourist filled theme park either.
Hi Mark. You did the right thing by ignoring everyone. Naples is raw and authentic
AMAZING NAPULĂ đđ€â€ïž
I miss it. Iâm not sure if I could live there again though.
I will be arriving in Naples from Budapest July 4th ! 1st time there!
Awesome! I do hope you enjoy it. I also hope this video steers you in the right direction
Grazie Assai! David glad to have found/subscribe to your channel. đ·đźđč
Thanks for the sub! Hope see you again in future comments!
Excellent list Davide! I would also recommend the Museo Archeologico Nazionale to your viewers. All the artifacts from Pompeii make it a truly remarkable collection and unforgettable experience right in the heart of the centro storico.
Thank you đ. Ironically Iâve only seen it once but it was a memorable experience
Ciao, io sono Sardo pero abito in America (South Carolina). Thanks for all the videos, we'll be in Rome mid July, going to visit family in Napoli for a day or two and then ride the speed trains to check out the typical touristy cities. Then we'll be in Sardegna, a casa con la famiglia :) I've been watching all of your videos, it's a good refresher course since i haven't been home in a few years, thanks for the content, keep it up!
Hi Giovanni! Thank you for leaving your comment and your kind words on my videos. I think you will like the next one in particular! Unfortunately I have never been to Sardinia but that is certainly next on my list! How long will you be in Rome?
@@DavidsDoseofItaly You'll love Sardinia, very peaceful and relaxing. I'm still trying to figure out the logistics, as of now i think we'll make Rome our main hub for a few days while we visit other cities and family via speed trains. I've been to most of these cities already but my wife hasn't. I'm flying into Rome with my daughter on the 4th of July (ha!) then we're catching a flight to Alghero. Wife is coming a couple of weeks later due to work and then we'll do our mini Italy tour.
Sounds like a good plan. I think Making Rome your hub is a good idea
Hi Dave! Your sentence of the week in Neapolitan: you nail it! It was a perfect pronunciation, speed and intonation!!! Iâ m shookâd!! đ±đ±đ±đđđ
I think Iâve always had a knack for dialects ! Thatâs a video that Iâll definitely make and thank you btw for the feedback đ
Great video: funny, well put together, nice mix of your own experience and what might be interesting for people who watch it. Lots of practical pieces of advice. Couldnât ask for a better introduction to Naples and avoid wasting time, money and energy. Keep up the good work!
Youâll need time and energy but less money to enjoy Napoli. Thank you buddy đ
Nicd info David - Naples looks fascinating.
Thank you!
you're welcome @@DavidsDoseofItaly
grazie tante!
đđ. Glad to help
Bravo David
Rosario Ăš un'istituzione!
Spero abbia visto questo video anche lui ! Grazie per il commento Linda! Spero ti sia piaciuto il video.
This was a fun video, lots of interesting places to visit. It looks like you could spend a few days just working through your list.
Oh definitely. Iâd need a week to film everything else I wanted to film
Grazie mille Davide per la informazione di Napoli!
Prego prego !
I loved the video! It was very helpful, especially about how to get a public transit day pass.
Youâre very welcome. Iâm always glad to help your videos with pictures. đđâš
you have a good idea for pictures! For the transit pass I just went into a news stand in the station. Thanks for the positive feedback as always!
Thanks, David! Also, thanks for the transit pass tip for Naples. đ€ đ€âš
I hope to one day make it to Naples and try real sfogliatelle. Great meeting you in Nick's zoom meeting this morning.
Likewise! Wish we had more time to connect.
You were probably the only one who understood the Italian !
Bel video e ottima pronuncia di "wĂš tt'appost". Nice video and bravo for the pronunciation of "wĂš tt'appost?"
Grazie! Ci ho messo anni a perfezionare quella pronuncia!
Thanks! Great help. I will be moving to Scalea in Calabria, not far by train to Naples. I will spend time exploring Naples. I recently learned I have a cousin living on Procida. Iâll visit him while in Naples.
Happy to help! I was in Procida once and had a cousin stationed there during WW2. Take an aliscafo from Molo Beverello. Procida isn't made for tourism really but it's a good slice of Neapolitan living.
@@DavidsDoseofItaly I like that Procida is real. Thanks!
I strongly recommend Nennella! It's an experience by itself đ so loud, chaotic and full of drama-people! I ate very well for VERY cheap and "entertainment" was free đ I honestly LOVE Naples, anxiety and bad mood are banned from that place.
I got stories from that place! Bad moods? I dunno I've seen plenty of pissed off Neapolitans!
@@DavidsDoseofItaly Yeah, but we explode for 10 seconds then it's over and the sun shines again.
Great video, I just subscribed. We are going to Positano in October flying in and out of Naples!
Hey Randall! Welcome aboard and thank you!
Awesome! Sadly Iâve only been to Positano once. How are you getting there ?
@@DavidsDoseofItaly Not sure yet. I assume a car service so it can get Us directly to the Hotel. We are going to base Ourselves out of Positano but I am looking forward to a couple foodie/pizza trips to Naples. I am bit of a pizza freak and we enjoyed the Food tours last year when we stayed in Rome! Wow what a City!! This year it is the South , both of my maternal grandparents , yes my Nono and Nona are from Naples. Looking forward to the visit and seeing some distant relatives. If you have any Tour guide hook ups or suggestions let me know!
The pizza in Napoli is in a league of its own
Tour guides Iâll let you know. Itâs hard to know for sure since I never take tours here!
Hi Dave. Hope all is well. This video really changed my opinion of Naples. I was never in a rush to see it because of the rumors that itâs a pretty dangerous place. I think you changed my mind. Maybe Barbara and I will visit there at some point. Ciao.
Youâll be fine if you go there. Donât worry. But like anywhere never let your guard down 100%
GRAZIE MILLE David for another fantastic , informative video !! One of my FAVORITE places in Napoli is GRAN CAFFE GAMBRINUS. Probably a silly question, but have you been there ?
I have actually. I avoided it this trip because I thought it might have been too crowded and I was rushing to catch the train!
Hey im a new subscriber. Love your content. I'm in Toronto and my family is from basilicata. Have you been there yet? Francis ford Coppola has some good videos showcasing the region.
Hey Lucano! Thanks for the subscribe and kind words! Yes, I have actually. I was in a relationship with a girl from Rotonda which is the last town in Basilicata before Calabria. A nice little town. I'd love to see Matera.
Video is great!!! Love watching your channel grow and seeing your editing skills! Iâm working on it too. Iâll be in rome next week for a few days. Would love to collaborate with you if you are up for it
Hey ! Drop me an email and give me the details of your trip.
My great uncle went back to Italy when I was a kid because Aunt Amalia, who never unpacked her household trunks, wanted to go back. After she died, Uncle Mike would write letters, wanting to come back...it was very sad! They lived in Torre del Greco and I passed by on a bus so I couldn't visit his grave...đ
Wow thatâs a long time to stay unpacked !
I almost took a job in torre del Greco and it would have really been a full circle in my life !
Hi David I enjoy your channel. I had reached out with another question a while back on a different subject matter. Iâm of Italian descent lived in Italy many years ago in the 80s in Florence. I am now coming to Italy with my husband and two college age sons. We are on a very tight budget. I need to ask your opinion about some of the thoughts of where weâre going to stay and how to cut costs on some of the following: we have timeshare points and therefore we are able to stay in some hotels. They will be in Bologna, Siena, Pisa and Genoa. my boys of course want to experience authentic Italian food. Having said that we need to keep our budgets very tight. I think we will probably get some prepared food from supermarkets, also fresh breads prosciutto, cheese etc. however I know that we need to hit some restaurants to explore Italy. can you recommend some decent notes regarding this? Additionally weâre gonna need to get around by train. How can I do the train tickets really cheaply? Additionally do I need to buy these in advance here in the states? Lastly do you know an Italian travel agent that could possibly facilitate train tickets cheap ly? do you like the idea of getting around by bus Instead? Thank you so much for all your feedback
Hi Melissa!
When I eat out I rely a lot on word of mouth and also the internet. I look at google, TripAdvisor and the fork reviews, not to mention pictures of the food. It also helps to look at the menu ahead of time so you can get an idea of the prices and what they offer.
Yes, a very good idea to go to supermarkets and buy your meals there if possible.
In regards to train tickets its pretty much like buying airfare; keep checking and look for sales and the earlier you get them the less youâll pay. Experiment with buying two one way tickets (going and coming) and also with both train companies, Italo and TrenItalia. As far as I know you can easily buy them online while in the states.
I donât know any travel agency but I really wouldnât use them because theyâre checking the same sites you are and in the end youâll most likely pay a commission.
Bus: I rarely use it. Itâs generally cheaper but itâs a longer trip and you risk getting stuck in traffic. Theyâre necessary if you want to go to the small towns where there is no train service. Iâd say the bus is the least reliable service.
Melissa, you are sticking to the North but what your boys think of as Typically Italian food is probably Southern. Food is completely regional in Italy so it will be very different than pizza and the pastas of the South. Bologna is a gastronomic paradise but don't expect the same things you'd get in Napoli. BTW most American "Italian" food is Neapolitan and other Southern. For inexpensive restaurants, get off the tourist paths and wander into the side streets and find Trattorie where locals eat.
David a Napoli c'Ăš il Cristo velato che merita
Assolutamente sĂŹ. Purtroppo câera troppa gente quando sono stato a Napoli a girare questo video. Altrimenti sarei entrato molto volentieri
Random question.. is it possible for someone with a lot of specialized tech and cyber experience to work in Italy when only speaking English (USA). With only very very elementary Italian.
Sure. But I agree, improve your Italian first. If you want to live and work here learning the language is super useful.
Since your work is primarily on the internet do you think you can find something with an international company or could you possibly start your own online business ?
visiting scampia? ;)
I did once.
@@DavidsDoseofItaly were there still many addicts around and needles on the ground or was it gentrified?
I wouldn't know. I only passed through there.
