- From the animated Ed Grimly TV series. A take off from the SCTV Count Floyd (Joe Flaherty) skits. In this episode, Count Floyd decides to draw the kids a scary story instead of telling them a scary story! My favorite scene from all of the Ed Grimly animated shows!
Joe Flaherty was my favorite SCTV character, followed closely by everybody else. Geniuses, every one.
I know, isn't he gorgeous?

Count Floyd is a damn fine nod to the genius of Svengoolie, Elvira and the other great horror hosts.
I feel the act is closest to Count Scary of all the horror hosts.

The reason he howls like a werewolf despite being a vampire: the origin of the character is that this Joe’s character of news anchor Floyd Robertson, in a vampire costume. The gag was that he was also taking this schlock hosting gig for the station so he’d get two paychecks.
And Floyd Robertson seems to be largely unaware of what a vampire even IS, other than they talk like Bela Lugosi.
Footnote: a newsman assuming a horror host role on the side to get extra money is how MANY iconic schlock hosts (Sammy Terry, Svengoolie) started.
Joe Flaherty did pretty much the same voice as the vampire dad on Little Dracula.

"Did I say it was a mask?! It wasn't! It was a real monster! And boy was he teed off at that kid for pulling off his head!"
Always makes me crack up. Especially Count Floyd's meltdown immediately afterward.
I had forgotten how funny SCTV was
I found the council funny, when John candy came in and said would you like some pancakes I almost pissed my pants laughing. The first time I ever saw it I was out 13 babysitting and I watched it many times over and over. Comedy gold

i just now thought about it but him wearing a vampire outfit on the Halloween episode of Freaks and Geeks was a reference to this

I sometimes use Count Floyd’s werewolf drawing as my avatar.
Where do you use it? Count Floyd did say that werewolves are too hard to draw.
Flaherty was the father in Maniac Mansion, and several great supporting roles including Eggy's militant Scout leader dad in Once Crazy Summer.
Why did the slumber parties I went to as a little girl never have Frankenstein as a guest? I feel cheated.
The "drawing" routine is kind of a parody of a routine Svengoolie has been doing for decades, LOL
Let's not forget that John Zacherle had a run as a kid's show host - presiding over "Mighty Hercules" cartoons on WPIX (Channel 11) in New York in 1963. Not to mention his hosting the music dance show "Disc-O-Teen" on WNJU (Channel 47) in Newark, NJ from the station's 1965 launch up to 1967. All done in his horror-host "Zacherley" persona. So this isn't all that off the mark in that context.

Loved this cartoon and the Count Floyd segments--kinda like Fat Albert and the Brown Hornet. Who else here totally despised Legal Eagle?

I used to miss SCTV so much that I would watch this show and Camp Candy just to remind myself of SCTV. Ed Grimly cartoon was actually ok to watch, lol.

The basic idea for this character,sketch and set had to be inspired by The Hilarious House of Frightenstein, especialy since most comedians in SCTV were Canadians. Hell Eugene Levy and Andrea Martin even did a movie with Fishka Rais aka Igor from HHOF.

The look on the kids faces, you'd think they'd rather get better entertainment watching the news. But its all acting,.........maybe.
