  • Hey guys, Curtis here your Autel Diagnostic Consultant. Today I am going to share with you a very interesting case study that involved configuring a USED DME module to a 2007 BMW Mini Cooper. For those of you who do not know, BMW doesn't allow us to program any used modules if we use their OEM interface. Some times the Maxisys Elite can program it, but it might not have the CAS/DME adjustment feature needed to get the car to start.
    So what do you when your ELITE can't program the used model and does not have any adjustment features? In this presentation, I will show you a secret software that will do this feature (and more) with just a few clicks of a button.

    I have a big question, if used DME is cloned, say, with KTAG, the resulting fine will contain the ISN and will it get written to the donor DME?

    Hi, Mr Curtis, let me see if i anderstood what u did. the isn code was copy from de used ecu (from other car) and transfered to the cas of the car? if So then the isn now is from other car too, or am i very confused? I mean , what isn has the car righ now? Thanks

    We ran through this issue on a 2004 745li. The car needed to pass state obd2 emissions inspection but the IM monitors would reset as soon as you'd turn off the car. I came to the conclusion that the ram/memory in the DME couldn't hold the data. It does happen sometimes. The car would need to be driven every time to ready the monitors but a person just can't drive a couple hundred miles non stop. So we orders a used DME. I used my elite to reprogram and reset parameters. Didn't work, had the same problem. Used INPA also, no luck. Finally sent it to a ECM guy to swap out the internals so to ISN and CAS would be synced. He couldn't do it either for some reason and said the used DME was bad. I didn't really believe it. Put the old one back and the customer got inspection done in another county. Saw the HEX 2 that could fix my problem supposedly at that time but was way too much and wasn't worth it. It's a very rare problem and usually happens on older vehicles that are not much on the road. What do you charge to do this?

      Hello, I dont offer the service to configure the DMEs etc. Im selling the Autohex software and giving the support behind it to the client. The software has different packages available that range from2650 USD to 5850 . It just depends on your needs. But in your case its probably not worth it if you dont get this problem alot . Maybe later one I migh have a client I can refer you to who purchased the software.

    What about the vin number. When need smog is it gonna read old vin number from donor car or the actual vin from new car ?

      You need to flash the ECM after using either an ISCAN or WinKFP. It will flash based on the VIN that is in the CAS

    Hi I have a question I own the Autel elite and it's seemed I can no longer access 2018 up Chrysler after my subscription expired even with the 8-12 bypass. What I read was that all vehicles would still work without a sub. but I wouldn't get any new vehicles that came out also I would no longer be able to program Benz or BMW.

    Hi I am very intrested in the Alltel lineup I'm looking at that MK808I believe I'm just wondering what you think of this machine the price point is right I have a 2016 land rover discovery sport and a 2007 BMW X5 that I'll be working on mostly does this machine work on this car or what do you recommend please let me know I would mind by in a machine off of you I also I live in Canada hopefully that's not a problem

      Hey buddy.. Its not a problem as I have clients that I represent in candada. I dont do full consultations over youtube.. but based on the little information I recieved you would need at least a stage 2 device. The one your looking at is a stage 1 and all of the MK series of tool will not recieve USA support. If your from North America I only recommond considering an MK device if you sell it to you directly. This way you will have me to help you on all the support levels ( technical software and hardware)

      All the other modules are fine. You can program virtually all the modules for bmw with the Autohexsoftware

    Autel ms908 sp can do programming with ford? I mean not software update. Other things. For example pcm swapping. Or security system sync.?

      @@AutelConsultancy thank you for your answer when I swap for example a pcm at Ford it's part of immobilizer or a bcm as well. Then I have to i itialize it with other parts of the immobiliser.     Thanks for the video! But couldn't you just use IM608 with a Gbox to read and write ISN from one DME to another?

      Yes but the client didnt have the G-box when this video was published and also he was not confertable doing bench work as it wasnt his strong point

    I saw a person who program a used dme module where he changed the number of the cass module with a BMW software and he used a decoding from the same software and he was successful and he was abel to syncroniz the cass and dme module

    Did you have to drop $5800 because you can install a part of that Auto Hex program on to your client's PCs and remote in and get the jobs done remotely using their Autel jbox between their pc much like an OE sub when client's Autel units aren't able to do the job as expected?😄

And also does it teach you how to program all make and models ECU, ECM, PCM and TCM?

      @@johnbriscoejr9738If you want to learn how to clone, my advice is to try Diagspeed. They cater to locksmiths, and sell all types of tooling for that demographic. They sell the tools *and the training*
      But you have to go in person. They are located in California.

    Im608 has a a jtag for eeproms, and there lots of software to read, erase, and write eeproms so just need to duplicate the module

    Hi, I have a problem with my Mini Cooper s r56 not start.
    The mini was on taking it out of the garage when it suddenly turned off. The first Scanner have these codes:
    2781
    2775
    2D52
    *2DCA*
    275F
    272F
    I changed 4 spark plugs, 4 coils, the Camshaft Position Sensor and a new battery. But it did not turn on, now it is giving these codes:
    005E31
    009314
    *00A0B4*
    00932D
    009CB5
    I deleted them and it only gives me this code: ( A0B4 )
    The mini starter good but not start.
    I try the new battery and it says it's ok, but when I test the battery with the terminals mounted on the Mini Cooper it says it's bad I don’t now why. I also reset the new battery in the mini system with the scanner but nothing.

      @@raychad5058 Nope. Its like a unicorn.. They dont exist lol. Most people wants there tool updated and also want warranty just in case the screen starts to lose its functionality. Autel wont look at your tool even if its out of warrant.

You can use the Autel j2534 on most of the OEM software.     Hey Curtis, while I like your videos I think you may need to study a little more on your core brand Autel. Both the 608 and 508 with the xp400 do pretty much all of the Autohex work at half the price.
    The reason the Elite wouldn't do the CAS alignment is that the ISN wasn't matched. All of which can be done with £1500 of Autel products. With a 5/608 and a 908p/e you can do pretty much anything on BMW bar 2019+ software updates

      @@fj7334 you can't. Elite has no security functionality on BMW. 608 however is great, if you know what you are doing or indeed have time to learn and practice it is great for security- ISN reading and writing in DME/DDE, CAS and FEM and renewal of FEM and CAS. Downgrading CAS3+, renewing keys (although the cable Autel list is not actually available, but can make your own) cloning- all manner of chipsets, eeprom work like FRM repairs really easily and with good instructions (need to find your own manner of repairing the software as it will only read/write and set the partition). Instrument cluster, although on the BMWs does not erase so use new eep.

      HI Speed. I agree with always learning about our brands functions . But I will I slightly disagree with some of your points. ( It could be just a mis understand but ill try to clarify) Remember in this Case study.. The client did not have a valid subscription. Therefore he could not update the DME ( which he thought he did) So thats 1 issues .Second as I stated in another video sometimes the Autel does not have The Cas alignment function. ( I know this because there has been several occasions were I helped a client program the module and when the car would start we would look for the alighnment features and they were not present. I even took the liberty to ask the head engineer at autel to verify if the function was available and for certain makes they said it was not developed") So yes sometimes the Elite/ Pro are able to programe the DME and Do the Alighment ( And dont get me wrong its really strong on the BMW) But there are times were special functions are missings and it leave most people in an unfortuante situation)
      The Autohex software has alot of functions that the Autel cant do. For example... Ive heard of people who programmed a CAS module with the ELITE Brick the Untis. When this happens they have to send it away to someone who has software like the Autohex.. to restore the cas.. you cant do with the Autel Products.
      Another example is the DME/ Cas alightnment.
      Yes the Autel has this feature but there are times were it does not . ( One client had to outsource this procedure to a tech.. I my client what software he used and he told me he was using the Autohex)
      So maybe the vehicles you are getting in your shop you are able to use the Autel Tools to do the programing of the DME and adjustments.. but usually when a client calls me its because there is a problem .. and this is a common problem that I ahve been seeing with the Autel software for years.

I understand he was out of subs but that would have made no difference, the Elite can't deal with ISN reading/writing full stop and updating the software would have made no difference to vehicle running or not. As for people bricking CAS modules, every one I have seen has been user error, but more commonly ABS modules, again user error though.
      My post was meant about the fact that we all respect you as an Autel guy, your vids are very informative and hopefully bring you plenty of work as you not only sell the product but use it also meaning any of your customers will get great service. Which is why I brought it up, why point your clients to a more expensive tool, that has no better functionality and that you don't sell? Surely selling the Autel is good for you as you are a dealer and support/tech service provider. I think though maybe you need to look into the IM range of Autel tools allot more closely, they have unparalleled coverage of BMW security at the price point. Sure things like Autohex at £5k, BMW Explorer at £10k and particularly the VVDI BMW at less than £1000 are great. But none do more than the IM, in fact as a package none come close as in multi brand capability.
      Aside from my own business my main job is technical and diag services for the biggest BMW Independent specialist in the South West UK. My 2 go to tools are Elite and IM608. Sure we use ISTA through the portal, Autologic, Toolset and a few others. But the never had a BMW or mini that Autel wouldn't do a CAS or EWS alignment on, unless there was an issue with the vehicle, in those instances genuine ISTA had the same issues. In such cases only the Elite would allow me to update single module software, something ISTA and Autologic won't do so another massive plus for Autel. (Some other tools will do it on E chassis vehicles, but they are slow to set up) Which would usually get them working or I could remove and renew on the bench with 608. The only real benefit with Autohex is it has some built in softwares for certain procedures, softwares that can be sourced very easily online for peanuts and used with the XP400 or indeed any number of programmers

      @@mo7ammad91 HI Mohmmad. Im afraid it cant. Maybe on older vehicles you can get a way with it but generaly speaking you need to do this procedure on the bench. What I suggest you do next time if you want to avoid costly purchasing decisions like this is to get a proper consolation. This way you will know the limitations of each tool but more importantly you will get a tool strategy based on the problems I discover . Personally I havent recommend the ELITE II but who it might be a good fit for you.

      @@AutelConsultancy make sense! I did some research online but I guess venders always don’t get to know the specs and everything about what they sell. I contacted Autel manufacturer this morning and advised me that Elite II, MS909 and Ultra Lite will do the job.
      Do you recommend any of the above over Elite II?

The problem that some of my clients reported to me is when they call Autel New York, its very difficult to find someone who is a product specialize and a tech support specialist. The product specialist dont know the tool inside and out . The just know the general specs based on the official autel website. Since this information is free, it can be very costly to the customer , especially if your trying to do a complex procedure. If you book a consultation with me , the advantage you will have is that I take responsibility for the information that I give ( since its a paid 97 usd consultation) and since I do my own tech support and do the procedure you want to do on weekly basis . I can give you the tool strategy and process on how its done to your VIN. I dont give any tool recommendations with out consulting a client first because I dont want to be responsible when the free information I give is not accurate because I dont know your situation in detail.

    Not exactly true.. you can just get isn code from dme and transfer to cas... only down side is you need to make new key for car... and thats only if its the updated software version.... auto hex 2 and vvdi 2 can do no problem...

    5800? Only for BMW? There are others that do over 90% of all ECUs not just BMW. And very very good tool. Not for keys but ECUs only.

    I really like Autel because I got a MK908P but...
    The thing you said about ISTA can’t program used modules is not true. I use this software for years now and had alot of customers with used modules. ISTA programs all the modules.

      Autel Consultancy Yes also used DME modules. You need to know how ISTA works because its not only programming and done. You need to program the module and the start value to the DME after programming. E-SYS can also do the job for the F series

      @@tigerbalmgaminghd3872 Hi Tigerbalm. Maybe one day you can show me how to do this because before I went through all of these measures.. I ask several of my clients and other bmw tech specialist if I can use ISTA to program a used DME module with the j2534 / Ista P and they said that they didnt recommend any used DME/FEM/CAS with another vin number to be fitted to another chassis as a test.
      They recommend my client buy a new DME, CAS, FEM etc from the BMW dealership, and they will write vin number to it and the vehicle order and write a 128 bit encryption key to it so the key can be recognized.
      Then I can buy the ISTA software from them and use the ICOM interface ( He didnt recommend a j2534 device) to connect to the vehicle and treat the new DME, CAS or FEM as replacement follow-up. The software will program and encode the new module without problems later.
      And after studying the OEM repair information .. It was congurent to what the techs where telling me. So at that point I was discouraged to see if ISTA could do it. If you could show me this that will help my clients and the community. Its always great to see different ways to accomplish these tasks

      Autel Consultancy I only use ISTA with ICOM NEXT. Used modules can work but some don’t. So I agree buying a new module is the best option for a 100% guarantee.
      ISTA is a great software to use. The only thing is you need to know the cars before you connect something to the obd.

    Very nice sir but all this staff cost a fortune, when it's gone pay back itself, broken ecu's it's a not every days problem, we getting 2-3 a year but subscription and costs is way too high.

      For the average consumer yes but my clients have lower cost and they will be able to use there tool to solve big problems that they can charge more. There are people who have full blown business with just that software. You might have a marketing issue as well as no strategy to keep you cost low

      @@waldemarfechtel1644 Yes , I stumbled across this when I was doing research but the course instructor had lessons using the Autohex and I decided to purchase the most expensive package so I can aquire the skillsets to solve more problems on bmw. Maybe ill check it out to compare the 2 softwares but right now this software is working for me and my clients.

      Hey Rick lol This is a positive for us if you thinking about it. Knowing what problems that are associated with them we can charge $$$. I have clients charging 500 - 800 USD for the service seen in this video. The dealer would be way to expensive.

      Hi John . I did it to before . Many of times. But as you know some years makes and models dont have these functions available. And I told you the client did not have a valid subscription to program the module in the first place.

      @@AutelConsultancy just in case u made him spend 5800 for 1 coding to make him pay for an ecu iam a tech and i do virginize all ecu and recode as new and actually is very easy to virgin ecu or make even immo off so it would be really a shame like i said to make him pay for an ecu that amount cus i wouldent see the benefit of using you as a consultant lol but nice u make with those video its good some who are late in the game can learn something from u

I also sell the tool and more importantly I like their support. They help me out ALOT! So I had a long term vision for this. Not short term.
