I absolutely love her...I served with her on deployments and worked for her as her company GySgt..She signed my paperwork to become a Drill Instructor...
She is one of my mentors..
    She is freaking amazing.

She is an awesome lady. I served in the Royal Canadian Navy for thirty-five years and saw the advent of females at sea. I was privileged to have sixty plus females onboard HMCS Preserver when I was Coxswain. They were as good and in many cases better than all the men I had sailed with throughout the years. Well done Sergeant Major, Angela Maness. You are a wonderful example to those who come behind you.

No better words spoken. As a retired Senior NCO and a Black man I remember being told what I could not do in 1973. Fast forward 22 years. I spent 16 years in Europe and the Middle East. I owe everything good thing that came my way because of my foundation from the United States Army. Hooah.

This is not about the far left. Right is right and wrong is wrong. She paid her dues and accomplished a hell of a lot. I hate political correctness. But at the same time if you can’t see the good that women have brought to the Corps, you are sadly mistaken. I know a WM who has been out of uniform for years who does something daily for the Corps and has a son in Recon. She represents the Marine Corps with honor and can still fit in her blues after 28 years off active duty and still looks young.

Left, Right, Middle, doesn't fucking matter. A Marine is a Marine, regardless of sexual orientation, gender (or lack thereof), race, fucking whatever. I've seen Marines in action and it's some motivating shit. When it all boils down to the lead flying past you and the warrior next to you, the only thing that matters is your fellow Marine.

Just found this post, so a little late to say congratulations. I'm an old Marine (69 to 73). I've always got pissed when someone would say " Look a Woman Marine" , I would correct them and say, Nope that is a MARINE. I don't care who you are, if won the right to wear the uniform of a United States Marine you are only the best of this country, you are a MARINE

You went in when I was getting out, Oct 18 1983 to Oct 17 1987. In my day color guard was done by height. Basically they wanted Marines around 6 feet. I'm 5'3. I was never getting on color guard. I got out a Corporal. The closest I got to a SgtMaj. was my dad who retired in 1981 after 30 years and 2 tours in Vietnam.

Personally as a former member of the Australian Army, I don't think there should be things like a Women Marines Association or shit like that. You want diversity? You want women in this and that, over here and there doing this job and that job? Have them doing that. But don't make special exceptions for them, or groups or associations, none of that. My sister is a feminist and I can say right now that most women want to be treated the same as men. There is no Male Marines Association, no special groups or whatever. No, give them the same EVERYTHING that you give to men. It's how I treated my soldiers until I transferred from regular Army into 2CDO, which sadly is all men (in fighting roles, that is). But even then, every soldier I met I asked them (when appropriate) "do you have women under your command?" Nine times out of ten they'd answer yes, and I'd correct them, "no, you have soldiers. Women want equality, then they have to deal with the same shit men do." It's a philosophy my kids have taken with them, including my daughter.

without HATE, what I saw was pathetic. Women were assigned a quota for boards. WMs only competed against the 10% of women in the command. The men competed with the 1000+ men. I finished boot camp 1983. I was selected for the Naval Academy Prep School as a token alone with no follow through intent. She graduated as LCpl. Many WMs entered the USNA reaching Corporal in 6 months from that boost. Marines quickly earned Cpl as they were ensured 6 yr contracts, guaranteed PFC from boot camp, LCpl from school, and Cpl after 1 year in the FMF; NO demonstrated leadership.
