    Absolutely awesome job with that, thanks a ton (using 29 chunky version).
    I already had my ghetto solution, just added "attachments" to sides, but it was ergonomically not so great. Yours fits my hands like custom tailored glove.
    I used tennis racket overgrip. Wanted to wrap it with alcantara, but decided to do it during some long winter night :D.
    I just used small mod: I really hate the upper edge on Fanatec grips, so I extended the "cylindric" section all the way up.

    Another great personalization I didn't know I absolutely needed till now. I have certainly noticed the V2.5X being much stiffer, but this should help stiffen my open bottom rims, Plus with courses needing hand over hand tight sections, a little more grip space than the left and right edges will be nice to try out. Just have to finish designing and printing some stuff I'm working on.

      Thanks for your kind words! What projects are you working on at the moment? Also what printer are you using?
      I'm releasing an update this week with designs that cater to people with small printers like a Prusa Mini - but if you have a large printer that has a 290+mm bed the file package is fully ready to go now.
      All updates are free though and I'd love to get your feedback once you try them!

      @@DrAlanQuan I have an AnkerMake M5. I have no idea where the fits on the size scale. It's new and I just started this week FreeCAD modelling. I have solved multiple issue for optimal placement of gear for my TrakRacer TRX tube sim rig so far, but as I am learning, I'm getting quicker, and seeing how to solve lots of interesting "organic" style solutions.
      I also just purchased your Complete Wheel Pack and likely tomorrow will have a moment to look and likely start a print for the night. So many designs to try, so little time. Plus I have to order inserts

      Sounds like you're on a roll with your design and printing, please send photos of your completed formula rim!
      The only hardware you absolutely need are M3 X 12mm socket head cap screws which are easy to source, but a few M2 threaded inserts and M2 x 12mms will give you a bit more of a tighter finished product. But don't be shy about printing and using them without the inserts

      Hi Matteo, I have confirmed fitment with eSports V1, and formula V2 (PS and Xbox versions) with my own testing.
      I have made design changes to improve compatibility when I discover any problems, and I update the download file with the improved files - see this short video czcams.com/users/shortsuPnWv2B4sOQ?si=pUIjgAWqV1xFAbyi
      I am 95% certain it will work straight away with the Formula Black V1, because Fanatec has kept a lot of the design exactly the same after all these years. If there are any fitment issues send me photos and I will fix it and send you the updated files :)

      Hi Danny, if you're in Australia we can work something out. It's cost prohibitive to send these internationally.
      Anybody with a 3D printer can print these (the larger designs do need a larger printer though) there is bound to be someone local you can use, and a soldering iron can be had for 20 bucks so you can DIY the heat set inserts. It's a fun project!

      @kaizer2k2 Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@DrAlanQuan Ya honestly I can appreciate good work. I started learning CAD earlier this year and everything is just so hard and time consuming to do.
      A simple model can take hours to design if you are making it with realistic dimension. The amount of times I have done my measurements, created a design, then printed it only to find out the dimension aren't actually what they were suppose to be.
      Kudos to you for putting in the time and effort in creating this. Very nice and functional design that not only makes the wheel look better but also more robust. Feels shit knowing Fanatec used 0% infill on their grips. LOL

    • @DrAlanQuan
      @DrAlanQuan  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Thank you, I agree with everything you said - it can be very challenging, sometimes something just doesn't work when I think it should - but it's a fun challenge and very rewarding to make this design that fits so well, improves on the original, and looks good!
      As for Fanatec's 0% infill grips, I've been pretty clear on my stance about Fanatec's product range. Although I can respect the hustle of continuing to sell a 10 year old design, and dressing it up in new colours such that people still want to buy it - man Fanatec really need a genuinely good and new product in this space.

      @kaizer2k2 Před 4 měsíci

      @@DrAlanQuan For sure, very fulfilling and rewarding experience. I have been loving the challenge of learning how to design. Really gets me going.
      Fanatec has been too busy spending money sponsoring different events, and teams. They should focus that money on R&D and customer service. They are currently fall very low on the list in terms of new/quality products. I personally love my simmagic eco system.

    What is the best filament type to print these grips? Would TPU be the best? What print settings to get the best finish?

    • @DrAlanQuan
      @DrAlanQuan  Před 7 dny

      I like PETG for these, it's nice and easy to print these designs without any warping issues etc.
      The contours of the grips are nice so the hard surface is not an issue, and you can always wrap it with soft tape if you prefer.
      Because the geometry is all curves, the smallest layer height (0.08mm or so) is best but does add print time - so variable layer height is a great compromise for quality vs print time
      I've printed 100% TPU versions and you need to play around with wall thickness and infill to get the right amount of compliance but it is definitely viable to print these fully in TPU as well
      Download a set and have a play 👍

    I am sitting at my Fanatec 2.5x and flex? I'm using a DD2 and I don't feel any flex. The only flex is in the main body itself.
    I still like this, because I realistically want to make this rim wider. But I don't think there's any real flex in mine.

    • @DrAlanQuan
      @DrAlanQuan  Před 4 měsíci

      Hi, thanks for commenting!
      The closed bottom carbon plate that your 2.5x uses is quite stiff as you've observed. The open bottom plate which my own wheel uses is basically the 2.5x plate with the bottom cut off and is noticeably less stiff and that's what drove me to design this.
      I think I address this in the video where I state that the closed bottom wheels are absolutely fine with the basic grips, but the open bottoms really benefit from the converting closed grips which add significant stiffness.
      I'm curious though when you say you don't feel flex, but you feel flex in the main body itself - can you please describe further? I'm having a hard time understanding this. Thanks!
