Great videos man. I've been following since you started. I play bass in a classic rock jam band and we cover a handful of Dead songs and some of these have been helpful. I have a video on my page of a Come Together > I Know You Rider you may enjoy! You asked for feedback, so I'll oblige. You're excellent at explaining what you're playing in simple terms with root notes and fret numbers which makes your videos very accessible to novice players. I see a world where the first 5 minutes of this video is going over the structure with root notes like you do, the middle 5 on walking into chords, and the cool fills you do (the B > C#m playing the 5th and lower octave was very slick). Then the last 5 minutes (or an hour lol) is on how you can play with the harmony during the jam sections and different ways to follow the guitar as he builds tension over several bars. Again, love the videos and would love to compare notes sometime (pardon the pun).
It's also really cool to see someone of Ed Helms' stature playing it cool and being a man of the people.

Thank you for the kind words! 😁 And I appreciate your feedback! I like how you broke it up into sections.. Honestly I'm just flowing in these videos. No real pre plan of what I'm going to say/do. A little structure would go a long way I'm sure. Actually that is my weak spot.. I'm good at bringing the enthusiasm.. but I struggle at organization.. Maybe a white board behind me? For chords and layout of the tune.. I know there are ways to just edit it in somehow but I'm fairly digitally challenged.. trying to keep it simple.. what do you think?

@@Bass_Geek Just remember that the rewind button is powerful. This song in particular has 3 sections: verse, pre-chorus, and chorus. You could show the form of all 3 in moderate detail in 5 minutes here and if that's hard for someone to understand they can watch that part again. I assume a good amount of people who will consume your content are newer to Deadland than they are to playing bass. And for some, they can spend an hour learning those first 5 minutes. But then, you have 10 minutes (assuming you're aiming for ~15 minutes) to show all the other cool shit you can do on a song like Sugaree that has endless ways of connecting B > E. That's where the magic is in this music and where I believe you can be a springboard for bassists looking to capture some Phil and expand their musical palette...while still being a valuable resource with beginner friendly aspects that will expose a beginner to the next level all in the same video.

I will be making content tomorrow.. I will take your recommendations and apply them.. You really have a way with words! Looking forward to collaborating with you more! 🙌

@@Bass_Geek Cheers man. I also struggle with feeling like I'm overplaying at times, but that's how I hear the bass, it needs to be moving, pushing, pulling, in a way that compliments the song, and more importantly, the other musicians. I record and listen back to rehearsal and it makes a huge difference in discerning what is noodling and what is spicy. I keep the spice and toss the noodles and before you know it, you have a bag of tricks for that tune that you can draw on live depending on where the song goes. Then those get morphed until you don't remember how that fill came out of your fingers. It's a really enjoyable process and videos like this help anyone who knows where to look. I'd love to help anyway I can. You don't seem to talk in music theory terms very much, more fret numbers. Is that to make it more novice friendly? I can't imagine the BassGeek didn't start on the cello. haha

@eitel10 honestly I know very little about theory.. some initial stuff.. but my whole life I have struggled with understanding it.. and I've watched countless bass instruction videos where as soon as the person starts using too much theory to explain what they are doing.. they lose me.. I get confused.. and ultimately I give up.. that's why I explain the way I do.. like I'm explaining how I wish someone would have done to me 20 years ago! I'm not opposed to it by any means.. and yes that is probably me trying to appeal to beginners.. I'm still trying to find my sea legs 😁

What key are you playing this in?

Great question! I really have no idea.. Theory was never my strong suit 😁
