  • In this video I show you how to fix or repair your broken laptop charger. Mine happened to be chewed through by my dogs, however this tutorial will apply to most damage caused by everyday use such as repeated bending and twisting.
Check out my website/blog, its still under construction and theres not a ton of content there but these things take time.

I have links below for what I used on this project as well as some alternatives.

the wirestrippers I used are old and not that good so here is a link for a decent set on amazon.(I havent used these ones but its a brand I trust and great reviews)

as for the knife, pretty much any utility knife with replaceable blades will do the trick but this is what I use and it has a compartment for spare blades.

If your like me and would prefer an electric soldering iron, I would check this one out on amazon. I have not personally used it but it seems to sell a lot and have good reviews, plus it's cheap!

i love how you united the wires by crossing hairs and then soldering from the opposite of the heat source

@The Armed DIYer , your methods seem refined yet straightforward. My question is about heating my shrink tubing. I don't feel confident about handling heat torches or open flame lighters on this task. I wonder if I could hold the finished wire end close to my toaster oven after throwing the door wide open after it is up to heat. Is a device that emits up to 450 fahrenheit hot enough?

@The Armed DIYer , also my issue arises due to the wear and tear of me yanking the cords away from the connective node which goes into my laptop, computer falling off my lap to traumatize the cord, et cetera. I trimmed right at the end to confirm that is where the break is. Complete disconnect of one of the inner wires. You say leave as much space on the short end as you can when clipping. Can I fray that end when there is less than a fingernail-length to work with? Thank you for making this video. I've seen nothing quite like it in my searches.

Is it necessary to solder after, or will it still work without soldering?

You could use just crimp fittings and it would work. But laptop chargers get moved around so much I just didn't want mine coming loose over time

@@thearmeddiyer9343 Hey, man. I'm not dealing with a broken pin or wires from the plug that connects to my security camera system but the plastic of the plug itself that secures the connection of the metal is bent on one side, making the fit onto the motherboard's port too narrow.
      How do I fix this?
If I bend the plastic to not be narrow it could damage the metal inside making the proper connection. Also if I attempt to shove it on there that could mess up the port from the motherboard.
I hope you can help me solve this, and thanks for reading

But by the time I buy all the equipment needed for this fix it's more expensive than a new adapter! Great video tho!
