  • This is for entertainment purposes only. Just because I did it doesn't mean that you should. Attempt at your own risk. Now that thats out of the way today we went through the water pump off jerry's 8v92. this waterpump wasn't showing any indication of issues but he wanted it rebuilt or replaced (replacement was $1700) before the engine went back together.

    Nice work, love a good refurbishment instead of a ridiculously priced new part!!

  • @greggsvintageworkshop8974

    Great work on that water pump Tyler, it's now as good as brand new!

    As far as I know Detroit only had 1 water pump . 4 cyl , 6 cyl and 8 cyl. The rebuild kit fits them all.

    well, at least it seems decently made and designed to be rebuilt with fairly common equipment. that pump looks like it would easily last the life of the engine, rebuild to rebuild.........unlike some other water pumps on other engines I know of that need replacement every 500,000km.

    $1700 for a new water pump? Are DD casting the pumps out of gold?

      @Spyke383  Před 3 lety +5

      I don't on the rebuild kit, we just give the engine serial number to our parts suppliers and they source them. The shut off valves are just ¾ pipe you can grab them at any hardware store.

    Nice ..! So you didn’t show the under side of the new impeller…Did it have a ceramic washer in it..?my rebuild kit does. Which also has a shaft that is like a mm shorter than the one that was in the pump.The last seal is different as it’s shorter as well.

    Job well done,,,Had one on an 8v92 in an old tug boat,, out side snap ring was rusted and deformed did not want to pull the whole thing off the engine,, ended up covering the whole plastic cover with a product called splash zone a 2 part expoxy that like play dough,,mix part A and B apply to damaged area, rock solid in a few hours,,lasted ia few years till i sold the boat,,, too bad Detroit diesel did not keep the old style with a bolt on cover !
