Propagating Nephrolepis ferns

- In this video I'll show you how to propagate Nephrolepis cordifolia 'duffii' and Nephrolepis exaltata 'marisa'. By using this technique you can multiply your stock with little effort or use the smaller plants in small terrariums. Enjoy!

Just bought one of these. Will take me forever to construct whole terrarium, cause I'm on a fixed income and can only afford to get one plant or supply every month. So far have fittonia white, bella palm, & just got the lemon button. Since my apt. is really dry, I'm keeping all plants in small terra cotta pots, and those are in a big glass lidded terrarium with a layer of clay pebbles, screen, and water in it. So far plants all doing great without watering, and taking lid off for a few minutes every day. When I finally plant, will use one or two rooted sections of each and keep mother plants intact. Can't afford to 'waste' mothers by cutting them all up like in this demo. Also wouldn't have enough places to plant them if I cut them all up.
Not looking forward to getting springtails, and will probably see if terrarium stays mold-free before deciding if I really need them or not, since will probably keep lid off of finished terrarium for at least short periods.
Really like your whole series of videos, and appreciate the specific instructions and info, and the excellent videography.

Your videos are very informative. Thanks 😊😊I use coir and home made kitchen compost as substrate in my terrarium get active microorganisms from the compost. These ferns look beautiful in the terrarium and I too use them😊😊

Dude you would I'd say have far less failure to take with the 1 out of those 10 that die by using H20 out of a hose with a nice nozzle that's able to be adjusted for out flow while you are separating because I do exactly what candi cane was suggesting she'd like to see you finding ferns by a river the last time I found a. Drippinn wet wall that had colapsedwith a huge half fallen tree with a ball of it's roots mixed with moss dark green and lond skinny fern stems I ended up having to cut a big chunk of the root moss mix with two Bigg fern sticking out but my roommate up rooted

Wonderful video. I didn’t realise it was possible to do this with ferns. I’ve made a few small whisky bottle gardens and they’re still alive after months and about to embark on a 55L glass carboy terrarium. I have a large sack of Irish moss peat (surplus from potting my Venus Flytraps). Is peat ok to use for a Terrarium? my small ones seem to be doing ok in it . I know peat is protected now but as I already have some from before the new laws about buying it came in I might as well use it. ?
So there were the ones you planted and the leaves that you tossed aside with the extra dirt. Do those leaves go into make terrariums? Or do you have to have a rooted section to put in the vertical terrariums? TIA
The leaves I tossed aside had no root system and are unfortunately destined for the compost bin. 😅

Can you propagated just in water ?
There's a river that i sometimes go to and there are little ferns there. Can I use that in a big bottle terrarium? Also it would be cool to see you go out in nature and collect these plants and moss.
