    Very interesting cues Dale. I do have some of them. I have heard the Dead Can Dance album. Lisa Gerrard has a fantastic voice. I am a longtime fan of Kevin Rowland. I always thought that they got kind of labeled as the band who did 'Come On Eileen' in America. If the narrow-minded listeners checked out more of Dexy's music they would have appreciated them more. You have great taste in music D~

      Hi Rob - Lisa Gerrard certainly has a beautiful voice. There is certainly much more to Dexys than 'Come on Eileen' and hopefully word will spread...

    Hi Dale. One Day I’m going to Soar is a corker! I saw Dexys on that tour. Kev was in his element. The show was totally captivating. The Bacharach album is real pleasure also. When he passed away, that was the album that stayed on the deck for weeks. It’s very easy listening but the arrangements are lovely. The picture of the naked woman stuck to the Man album made me laugh. And there I was moaning about a Jackson 5 sticker on a Pioneers album….

      @gatefold33  Před 8 měsíci

      I think I'd have enjoyed that Dexys tour and it certainly feels it would have been a show rather than a gig (if that makes sense). Yes I see your Jackson 5 sticker and raise you one naked woman picture...

    Hey Dale . Love this concept and your reviews. I only have one Man album, a comp, but I really enjoyed it. The Dawn label releases are always worth checking out. Always good to reassess those albums that haven’t been played in awhile. All the best of the season to you and yours. Cheers.

    Oops, got the notification about the video and promptly forgot to watch and comment - apologies!
    The first two Man albums are good fun but nit a patch on what they would later go on to do - the. Welsh Quicksilver - wonderful stuff.
    Love the Anne Briggs album.
    The Affinity album is one I've been meaning to pick up a copy of for a long time.
    Heard of, but not heard anything by Sammal - need to check them out.
    Agree with your comments on Dead Can Dance.
    Hooe you had a great day yesterday - wishing you all the best for 2024...Pete

    Congrats on passing 500 subs Dale..Nice to be finished for work isn't it!.
    I like that Dawn label, I have one or two on that one.
    Not that familiar with Man to be honest, I think I've seen that one around that you showed.
    Kevin Rowland is hugely talented although I've never really gone beyond the debut Dexys' album which I would imagine is hard to beat.
    It's been a while since I've heard that Anne Briggs, I know theres' a lot of numbers that Bert Jansch and Pentangle recorded.
    Neil Youngs' archive series is impossible to keep up with, even though some of the live performances I've heard are superb.
    I played Affinity the other week, I love the energy of the performances..Linda Hoyles' debut is pretty good too, but I prefer Affinity.
    Hope you have a great Christmas. 👍

      Thanks Rob I hadn't noticed the subs. The Dexys debut is my favourite but I like all three of the original period and the one I showed. Yes Affinity is strong and a shame they didn't continue. Hope you have a great Christmas too...

    Hello, Dale.
    Every day is a Anne Briggs day for me. The finest folk voice of her generation, and masterful interpretater of song. I was listening to a radio programme recently with an extended interview with her, where the presenter pronounced her name Annie Briggs. Now, I'm not sure if he was sounding the E in Anne because that's how she pronounces her name, or if after spending some time with her he was being overly familiar? I need to hear more people who know her, to see who they pronounce Anne.
    One day I might do a ranking video of female British folk singers. Although, I think I might of spoiled who would make the top spot.
    Have yourself a merry little Christmas.

    • @gatefold33
      @gatefold33  Před 8 měsíci

      I don't think I could cope with Anne Briggs every day. Listening to early Galley Beggar CD-R as I type this, which is much more to my ears. The top of the ranking will of course be Sandy Denny I trust? Have a merry Christmas too, cheers Dale

    I enjoy Man but it did take them a while to reach their mid-70s stride. Interesting customised label 😂
    Anne Briggs did have a lovely voice but I agree, you have to be in the mood.
    Always liked that cover on the Affinity album but have never investigated the music inside.

      I think I need to get to the mid-70s stuff John as most of what I've heard is earlier. Affinity is well worth investigating...

    Compliments of the season Dale. As a Welshman I do feel ashamed to have never heard anything by Man (or Budgie come to that - and I'm not a fan of the Manics or the SFAs, so I'm a national disgrace really). I have a CD of Anne Briggs which is also her singing unaccompanied. It's a bit 'non-more folk' for my tastes so I'll have to look at some other releases by her with bazouki on them. I've never seen that Dexys album before, I must stream that. 'Comes a Time' is an album I wish I liked more, but I just find it a bit sacharine somehow. Just for the record, my partner has long banned me from playing any music in the car (while she's in it). Cheers, have a good one.

      Surprised you are allowed back into Wales to be honest James...Interested to hear what you think of the Dexys album...You need to take back control of the car stereo James! We mainly only listen to podcasts these days. Occasionally I can get away with some BBC 6 Music like Radcliffe & Maconie, Guy Garvey or Cerys Matthews...I still make great play lists though for nobody to hear...Cheers Dale

    I have to admit that the only Dexy's record I know is the one everyone knows. Comes a Time is a great LP, in my opinion. I've always loves Dead Can Dance, but I still have yet to hear their debut. This was 20 minutes well spent 👍
