I think a lot of journalists seem to live in another world. Where reality is not reflected or observable. Absolute trash journalism. Most knighthoods aren't warranted, so that doesn't bother me. But to not reflect reality, is bad. Another manager would love to work with this upcoming group of players and the salary is fantastic. No mention of the lucky draws or consistently bad football and poor tactics. Should be praised for his defensive stability, but apart from that should be criticized, he gets paid enough. The football in friendlies, qualifying and tournaments has been so boring me and a lot of casual un-brainwashed fans have not bothered watching for about 4 years except when absolutely necessary.
Nearly a week after the final and I'm still baffled at the set up he used - he saw how using a box midfield against Holland worked so why the hell did he revert back to the formation that he used in the group stage? he should have just gone for it in the final...
Unfortunately in life moving forward 20 years down the track will anybody remember Gareth’s wonderful job with the players some one will ask did he win anything unfortunately the response will be no
out of all managers on shortlist to become england manager i'd go for pochettino because he's very good at getting best out of youngsters, like he did out of cole palmer for ex, and think he would deffo have more chance than southgate to take this team one step further
Destiny is calling Klopp. He is more loved in UK than in Germany. 80% of EPL & EC (Tiers 2 to 4) & Scots & Welsh & irish & non-league fan's, 2nd fave club is the reds (LFC). Due to Jurgen, Sir Kenny, Paisley, Shankley, John Barnes, Souness, Rush, Keegan, Owen, VVD, Hendo, Carra, Stevie G, et al. My WBA may not win the UCL soon, but boy do those baggies love the reds on Euro nights. Many were at Istanbul in 2005, etc Jurgen or Peps or Anceloti or R.Mancini or A.Conti or M.Lippi will end 62 yrs of hurt at the UK based Euro28, (if not at the USA World Cup 2026, but serial winners Messi & Argentina will probably defeat 3 🦁 in that final) Gareth laid the foundation of future success & is appreciated by the majority of 3 🦁 fans. (ESPN poll of 20000+ fans shows 3 in 5 fans think he did a good job). A nice guy who did his best, thats all u can ask for. I think he will win a cup with a nice club like Cyrille Regis's WBA. Prof A.G.Haq.
I think that Southgate deserves to be considered an all time great England manager behind only Sir Ramsey and thats a fact Southgate was 180 minutes and 3 goals away from being the very best ever .
I agree with Eddie Howe being in the frame because our best players are our attacking players like Foden, Bellingham, Saka, Palmer and Howe plays attacking football and improves players so...
Eddie has never won anything, let him win something first and get more European football under his belt then it will be the right time. Newcastle had a tough champions league group but didn't navigate getting out of it. He's had 3 european matches and never played in a tournament himself. I don't see us getting past last 16 in any tournament with Eddie, as much as I think he is fantastic. Let's give him time!
What a shame Southgate has resigned. We need a manager who can unite the olayers, who's tatically ineot, who doesn't know how to utilise the qualty of players we have. A defensive coach who plays players un their wrong positions, being reactive than proactive. No wonder the players love him because they always get picked. I love this.mentality that failure of reaching two successful finals and not winning is seen as a success... Please bring Southgate back we need someone who can put his arms around the olayers when rhey come out and cant handle the criticisms which were fair. Should Soutgate get Knighted, for what? Being a nice genuine gentleman and not winning ANYTHING... Wouldn't auprise me, as a nation we love to support mediocrecy....
Thanks for the memories but English pundits and media need to understand JUST cus Southgate was better than previous awful managers does NOT make him a Good manager. He shouldn't have chosen the players that the media/public wanted and stuck to the team he had created regardless of club form, you can't put strangers together and expect they to gel
This was the first time he done everything the media/ public wanted on choosing players and broke up a team, Maguire, sterling, grealish and Rashford were 4 of the biggest personalities in the team Southgate created and he basically sold them all at once, like Barnes said international football is completely different to players who pkay in a system with there clubs and told exactly what ro do and you can't do that at international football, why Spain are so good is they make a team and dont pick players on club form or whose best, i think its terrible Southgate didn't keep his team! Also with Bellingham there woth his narcissist toxic personality he made ot like the sven days and doing that advert is almost unbelievable 😂 who would do that?? It will cone out that he was firced to pick Bellingham
Teams on our level and then mentions Spain, Germany and Italy. Laughable! We are not an emerging nation he says. You are not that far off from the emerging nations. You will not win anything with this attitude. Your starting point can't be that you are better than you are when history suggests otherwise.
Id go for an elite manager Wenger, klopp or mourinho Southgate main negative was inplay subs weren't great need an elite manager to make those decisions under pressure
The first thing that comes to Carragher when it comes to management is how to deal with the media 😂😂😂 Talk about winning, and England will never win anything for as long as they have English managers managing. How many English managers are managing abroad? So thats just typical English entitlement?
What a stupid argument! We tried 2 foreign managers so we shouldn't try that again??? Maybe we picked the 2 wrong managers for the squad we had at the time. Maybe it was a personality clash? Maybe it was the wrong formation and tactics for the squad? It's well documented that Capello was the wrong man for England and Sven wasn't much better. You could have the same attitude about Englishmen. Hodgson, Taylor McClaren didn't work, even Southgate, Robson, Venebles and Hoddle didn't win silverware so lets not hire an Englishmen since there been more English managers that have failed than 2 foreigners? No club would have an attitude of ruling out entire nationalities because of a couple of unsuccessful managers. England should get the best man for job. Period. Some foreign managers are loved by the English because of their work in the premier league. If we have the chance of signing someone like Pep or Klopp next year over Potter and Lampard now we should interim and wait. That's how Greece won the Euro's with a German manager. Montella is doing a great job with Turkey and Martinez has been decent with Belgium and Portugal. We're not the only nation with a dirth of top mangers.
How tough can it be,playing 10 to 15 games a year, you get the pick of every good player in the country,2 million a year, more free time than any job out there, let's see him go manage a team like ireland with very few good players.
Southgate benefitted from expanding tournaments and favourable seedings . He barely played a game with any jepody and when he did his record against top ten teams was worse than roy hodgson . If he had the tournaments in over era he would have been sacked sooner
Southgate always reminded me of Ole, they are a very nice guy, i like them as a person, but let's just say, football manager doesn't really suits them.
Who would want to be England manager? 10000s of armchair managers critiquing every decision. Having cups thrown at you by the “fans”. Radio hosts who never kicked a ball sitting behind a microphone calling you useless! Now the narrative is get him in or get this guy in. Truth is those names will be next in line for the same treatment.
They won't have to win a trophy to better what he's achieved. Id rather have been entertained and played good football and gone out earlier personally. Scamming the way to finals with last minute goals, dubious penalty's and winning games on pens etc isn't successful, it's just playing boring football and getting a bit lucky. Turkey played better football than England in the euros

I agree entirely. Robson was a made a saint for just getting us to the 90 semi in Italy; same for Venables. Southgate is going to be missed. Mark my words.
Jo Wilson is the real goat here.
Spain’s team and manager did better than England’s; it’s really just that simple.
I will miss the Darren Farley Southport interviews 😂
Why do these pundits always think we have the best league? We didn't get the extra CL spot, because we haven't been as good as other nations
Didn't really talk about Potter just Howe who won't take it? I like Carra but pointless rant really
Interesting how all these ex england wannabes think they can comment on Gareth. Did they even make a final - NO 😅
Unfortunately in life moving forward 20 years down the track will anybody remember Gareth’s wonderful job with the players some one will ask did he win anything unfortunately the response will be no
out of all managers on shortlist to become england manager i'd go for pochettino because he's very good at getting best out of youngsters, like he did out of cole palmer for ex, and think he would deffo have more chance than southgate to take this team one step further
Good decision for his mental health. Certainly not his bank balance. £5m/year for a part-time job.
Many were at Istanbul in 2005, etc
Jurgen or Peps or Anceloti or R.Mancini or A.Conti or M.Lippi will end 62 yrs of hurt at the UK based Euro28, (if not at the USA World Cup 2026, but serial winners Messi & Argentina will probably defeat 3 🦁 in that final)
Gareth laid the foundation of future success & is appreciated by the majority of 3 🦁 fans.
England need a manager who wins cups - Ten Hag for England & Southgate for ManU :)
Carra nearly said Liverpool instead of England
Guy's Scouse thru n thru
Not to Carra: don’t sit with light behind you on webcam:)
Get klopp ffs
Good news, thank you, GS, for doing the right thing.
Jamie Carragher has made the most sense on this one. Definitely need an English Manager.
Why an English manager? get a winner in ffs. I'm irish (yes.I know we're shite at football)
Didn't we have the biggest empire in human history? Not sure that we support mediocrity. England has been the exact opposite of that.
OK gammon
Roberto Martinez is your man.
@@troy8613 joke
Thanks for the memories but English pundits and media need to understand JUST cus Southgate was better than previous awful managers does NOT make him a Good manager. You could tell in 2016 he was NEVER going to win a major comp and unfortunately it’s taken nearly 10 years later for half the English fans to be proven Right…
Well said !
On one hand, he got results. On the other hand, watching England play and the lineup decisions were baffling.
@@thydevdom he also got very lucky in the draws in all competitions. No Argentina in semi finals, no Brazil in quarters and so on. As soon as he faced half decent opposition, in Italy and France, he went out
South Ramsey was a top gaffer
Southgate was rubbish. He had the players to carry him but he was a liability and not a good coach.
If an English manager like southgate took them to finals then it can’t be a foreign coach.
It has to be Eddie Howe
Why are people too stupid to ever just blame the players and wait for the next tournament, sticking with our reliable manager?
International football is very different from club football.....you can't but players.
Can't stand listening to all these sycophants saying about his "successes", 2 finals and a semi-final. The fact is that any above average manager with the world class talent available to him would have probably won 3 trophies. So NO, Southgate was not that good. Sorry.
Can Ian Wright manage.
I love Carragher, he actually gives straight answers, unlike Gary Neville.
eddie better than poch and tuchel ?! come on Carra !
Carra totally right on the next manager
Yea sure Jamie, a team togetherness for 13 of the 23, the other 10 can go Blow Dixie, same for all Southgate squads, a favorites manager
i’m glad he’s gone england an ea fc 24 plays way better ball
Very easy to sack or blame one man for the shortcomings of the most of this disappointing squad.
Only deserve to be knighted if you win the World Cup. Sir Eddie will have a nice ring to it in 2 years time.
A year out then too Man Utd 😆😂 then finished off at Middlesbrough where the legend started 😆🤣
He hasn’t done a brilliant job. He’s done an okay job. Lost every big game even when blessed with outstanding players and lucky draws. 5 out of 10
Thank you Gareth for everything. Now we need someone with the guts to get out of this boring, defensive style of play..... please.
Eddie Howe is not the best man to take England forward, Jamie!
JURGEN KLOPP to be the next england manager
Rumour has it he is going to emigrate as well 👏👍
What happens if the next manager doesn't qualify and it's the next 10 years until we get to a final ?
So you also think it's going to be either Gerrard or Lampard?
Teams on our level and then mentions Spain, Germany and Italy. Laughable! We are not an emerging nation he says. You are not that far off from the emerging nations. You will not win anything with this attitude. Your starting point can't be that you are better than you are when history suggests otherwise.
Southgate is type of person who over thinks & ends up confusing himself.
Don’t get why carra thinks this, surely it’s because they get told to take it easy in Southgate
Id go for an elite manager Wenger, klopp or mourinho
Southgate main negative was inplay subs weren't great need an elite manager to make those decisions under pressure
No Southgate's main negative was who he picked and started.
If he was more pro active against Italy or Croatia we may hv won one of them tournaments
Big Sean dyche for England manager
Might as well. He's the best English manager of the past 20 years.
The first thing that comes to Carragher when it comes to management is how to deal with the media 😂😂😂
Talk about winning, and England will never win anything for as long as they have English managers managing.
How many English managers are managing abroad?
So thats just typical English entitlement?
No1 mentioning his woman football beliefs
Top guy
Thankyou Gareth the penalty is forgiven
Future England's manager must solve Bellingham's temperament. His attitude brings negativity to the team.
Call Zlatan in Milan. 😂
5 million a year 😂
He would be a great fit for Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea or Arsenal.
Southgate benefitted from expanding tournaments and favourable seedings .
He barely played a game with any jepody and when he did his record against top ten teams was worse than roy hodgson .
If he had the tournaments in over era he would have been sacked sooner
Well done cucurella you went all the way
Robson and Venables had England playing attacking football, going for the win. Southgate did not.
He has not else to achieve hes won it all, semis, quarters, walking on the pitch in finals
Southgate always reminded me of Ole, they are a very nice guy, i like them as a person, but let's just say, football manager doesn't really suits them.
England should hire a Spanish manager
I want Jose
Who would want to be England manager? 10000s of armchair managers critiquing every decision. Having cups thrown at you by the “fans”. Radio hosts who never kicked a ball sitting behind a microphone calling you useless!
Now the narrative is get him in or get this guy in.
Truth is those names will be next in line for the same treatment.
£5M per annum, part-time job.
5M quid a year for a part time job - sign me up
Both replies tell the story!!
Money…
Then don’t judge them that heavily if it’s a cash grab
They won't have to win a trophy to better what he's achieved. Id rather have been entertained and played good football and gone out earlier personally. Scamming the way to finals with last minute goals, dubious penalty's and winning games on pens etc isn't successful, it's just playing boring football and getting a bit lucky. Turkey played better football than England in the euros
Kane literally got him sacked on his own……Quite an achievement.
So in a weird way, Kane actually won something 😂
This guy has won NOTHING and is NOT EVEN a BOTTLE OF WATER. Please tell me how this is happening
