    Clay - I grew up working with one of the top golf instructors in the world… (who worked with Tiger after Butch). I am a 2 handicap that has dealt with a ton of inconsistency due to spine angle. Nothing really helped until I watched this video. Finally, I am not trying to force my body to do something… it happens naturally based on your tips shown here. Just looked at my swing on video and was shocked. Hundreds of thousands of golf balls 30 years of playing changed by one video. Thank you. Seriously.

      Golfer used to play 120 score now down my lowest score to 85 and lower if I can’t how many years I’ve played all together probably only 2 years witch in 5 year span of total 4 years on off as teenager and 2 years as my 20s playing more and practicing
      I seen big differences in my game
      Fundamental videos and all my favorite tour player bobby jones Tiger Woods Ernie Els Fred couples guys you have great swings fundamentals

      @@gypsygypsy7185 I’m making heavy progress every week on the driving range. With all the CZcams videos I always feel like I know what. Need to work at next, focus on it go home, study something else.
      It’s the right time to be a fan of this sport because 10 years ago this broad range of coverage was simply not available.
      Started in March, I want to see if I can play my first 9 or 18 holes in June or July

      @@danmardavdyl there are some conflicting theories but generally what happens is not so much conflicting theories as a combination of click bait titles like “do this move to flush every shot” that may work for certain swings or flaws but other swings or flaws may need totally opposite feels/moves to accomplish the same thing or to get into the same positions. Also many people don’t understand everything in the swing needs to match up, if you’re griping it a certain way(strong, neutral, weak,etc) a bowed wrist is going to square your face but gripping it another way the lead wrist needs to be cupped (extension) for example but also the amount of body rotation effects that squareness as well, Dustin Johnson is great example of that. The match up is a big issue for many because many quick tips assume everything else in neutral. Especially with quick tip videos there’s no way to completely explain everything & all factors. Swing dynamics & the new laws of ball flight are generally agreed upon universally in golf instruction, there’s just a huge plethora of different ways & feels to get there as well as a plethora of different swing issue that require different feels/moves to get to the same place. From p1 (set up) - p10 (finish) there are generally agreed upon square positions for them all and biomechanics has shown use the most efficient means to swing a club to create maximum speed with minimal effort & wear on the body.

    This video, literally, has changed my golfing life. I'm a 15 handicap and I've been stuck there for about a year now. For the past 8-9 months I've had great iron striking, but consistently pulled the ball 7-15 degrees long and left. Then, about 2 1/2 months ago I started shanking for the first time in my life. Nothing I tried yielded good results and the shanks seemed to be getting worse. Even on days when I wasn't shanking I was still hitting the ball well into the heel area and pulling everything.
    This morning I watched this video before heading out to golf. During warm-ups at the range I tilted my spine as Clay suggests in this video. I didn't change anything else in my swing. I employed the change on all of my full swing shots, both irons and woods and driver. Initially, I hit a few balls very fat but after about a 1/2 dozen of those I made the adjustment and immediately the pulls and shanks (and duck hooks with the driver) disappeared and I was hitting the ball with more distance and accuracy and I shot 3 strokes below my handicap.
    Of course, time will tell - but after watching 10's of videos and trying everything to get rid of the pull and the shanks, this lesson fixed everything in 5 minutes of practice. Try it - it works!

      @@shaynebernard My handicap is now 11. I stuck with it and I also got re-fitted (since I lost some weight). The two combined have all but completely eliminated the pull/hook, and I've added 15 yards to my now straight iron shots.

    Finally, a swing thought that keeps me down through to impact! As a 6' 2", 60 year old golfer, I have always had trouble staying down through the shot. I tend to hit the ball very clean with barely any divot taken. While this is good for driver and fairway woods, it often results in slightly thin iron strikes, with the occasional bladed shot in the mix, and my carry distance just wasn't what it should be.
    The feet at 45 degrees drill was good, but the right ear to the ball swing thought was absolute gold. Took that to the range for a couple of days and just worked on low - mid irons, keeping that ear down. End result - very solid contacts with nice ball flight, an improvement in shot accuracy, and a swing plane that took a small divot beyond the impact point with the ball. Can't wait to get this going on the course!

    I have watched hundreds of videos in an effort to find the slot. This video singlehandedly changed my swing. The way that Clay explains each step is so straightforward and easy to understand. After 20 years of a steep outside in swing, I am finally able to swing from the inside out. I am a "Top Speed Junkie" now! Thanks so much!

    I'm a 3rd year golfer. Priorly a lifelong baseball player. My first year of golf involved a lot of slicing and with some instruction that turned into a lot of pulls and hooks. My second year was defined by the shank and I haven't found ANY consistent striking since. Ruined golf. Working with a college golf coach that embodies a number of principles: letting the arms fall, "stretching the club", allowing the club to pull me through impact, using the natural physics of the club etc etc. What is killing my swing is hands pulling the shaft (grip) to start the swing and compensatory stand up through impact. I've struggled greatly with hip depth drills (early ext. chair - drills) and letting my arms fall. Lately I've been focusing on keeping my trail elbow bent in front to the torso through impact (preventing abduction of humerus and keeping it in front of rotating torso), externally rotating humerus and wrist extension cues in the back swing has produced partially better downswing results but inevitably my hands pull out and I lose that bet externally rotated arm at impact and I can't fix this for the life of me. Any insight anyone might have and if side bend may be a missing piece.

    Well explained. When you “skip the stone” it’s the same feel, lean to the right. Great drill that you can do with plastic balls in the back yard.

    Wow this was a brilliant video. I'm a scratch golfer but I keep standing up and early extending. I always hit the ball pretty straight but not very far so I've been working hard to fix it but nothing has worked. This helped a lot. Thank you!

    Wow. This is the first time I have done a drill a couple of times and then a practice swing and it completely cured my early extension and got super crispy contact. I have been doing drills with my butt against a chair and a wedge under my trail foot but they didn't work...because I was still not getting side bend! I'm going to need about 10,000 reps to get used to the feeling and work it into my swing but today was the first time in my life I have struck a golf ball properly. Wow, thank you!

    Hello Clay, Thanks to your videos, I was able devellop a quite solid golf swing. But every time I try to add lag to my swing it increases the risk of hitting terrible shanks. Any idea where this could come from?? Thanks Peter

    Good video, but I'm not sure if this is right for me. I am still losing my tush line. Also, in this video, when you hit the balls, you came off the tush line as well. Just a bit, but enough for me to question this method. Thanks again.

    Big time standing up through impact, so definitely trying to implement this fix. However, feeling lower back pain when I practice the drills, any idea on the cause? It doesn't look like reverse spine angle, posture at address?

    The way I cured that mistake sounds crazy but move the ball up in your stance forces you to swing thru the shot and impact position u can also think about hitting the imaginary ball in front of your real balls either way can work don't force the shot and swing smooth and easy until you get the feel for the correct swing thru

    Please, if you find the time, explain why shallowing the swing is so vital. I'm sure it's not new, but it just seems in the last year or so, that it's the big thing everyone is talking about. Also, why not just have a more shallow backswing that puts you in the position directly? It seems to me that it would be one fewer step to do that rather than a relatively steep back swing, then the shallowing, then the swing. I'm not arguing....I'm just trying to understand. Thanks!

      If you do this drill, after a few repetitions, you won't need to worry about shallowing the clubface; it will happen automatically as a result of the body movements this drill produces. Lean right, elbow in, down from the inside: the result, the Lean Machine.

    Clay has really done wonders for my game with his great insight. Unfortunately not this time. This even conflicts with an earlier video of his to keep right shoulder moving forward, This just made me hit early and behind ball instead of in front. I think my standing up caused by not shallowing club enough.

      This is what I would expect from most people actually. I find this a puzzling idea to teach. Side bend comes gradually as a result of forward bend plus rotation, and it comes in the part of the swing that lasts a tiny fraction of a second. It seems very dubious to try to focus on side bend and expect to get the sequencing/timing consistently right, not to mention the proper amount of bend. In fact, a common mistake is for people to side bend too early because it's a somewhat intuitive, but ultimately poor, way to get shallow (very much looking like the left pic in the thunbnail). It tends to be very inconsistent with low point and often hitting behind the ball. Of course, people interpret info differently, so maybe this will work for some. I would bet they'd be the exception though. Just my 2 cents in case it may help anyone. Whatever works, enjoy the game.

      @@GP-qz6kk I like your explanation and I might add - side bend without hip and shoulder rotation will be a disaster. When the right side bends the left shoulder must rotate up and back away from the target to get the full effect of the move. Your left arm will straighten and you won't chunk the ball.
