- This is the all-new Mercedes GLC!
Having first been introduced back in 2015, the all-new GLC is here, and it has competitors such as the Audi Q5 & BMW X3 in its sights! The question is, are there enough updates and changes to grab your attention?
In terms of looks, the new GLC takes a number of design cues from the C-Class. But then again, that’s no surprise, given it’s effectively an SUV version of the popular saloon! As a result, it comes with swooping tail lights and a generally good-looking rear end (even if it comes with both fake exhausts and vents)! The side profile is pretty sleek and sporty, while there’s a bigger grille, two Mercedes badges, and if you choose the AMG-line edition, a pretty sporty front bumper.
It’s more of the same on the inside, with the cabin proving to be super stylish. There’s a massive infotainment screen in the centre of the dash, along with soft-touch, high-quality materials throughout the car. The air vents are well laid out, and the seats are super comfy. Overall, it doesn’t get much better than this when it comes to mid-sized SUVs.
When it comes to performance, there’s a choice of diesel, petrol and plug-in hybrid engines to choose from. The range-topper is the 2-litre turbo petrol PHEV, which delivers 313hp. They all come with 9-speed gearboxes and four-wheel drive. The plug-in hybrid can also drive for up to 80 miles on electric power alone!
There’s one key feature you need to keep in mind, however… The new Mercedes GLC starts from £52,000! That’s more expensive than the key competitors from BMW, Audi and Porsche! So should you choose this SUV over the competition? You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself!

It’s probably to target the algorithm to get more views, but oddly enough I felt like the views were higher back in the day than it is nowadays

While watching this video, I thought that someday Matt will leave his job in the carwow and we won't see him anymore. That's making me sad, because I really like the way Matt behave during filming these reviews. I don't know how old is he but he still simple, funny and cheerful like child on these videos. Earlier 3 litre engines couldn't even produce 250 hp like 3.0 Tdi etc

still loving it and it owes us nothing, to be honest, even though I am not a new adopter, its the last ICE car we will own. Just looking at the complexity of engines nowadays, the days are numbered. A model Y would be the next move.@@surfer767

The previous generation had creaky brakes as well, I thought that was a Tesla S/X only feature.
@@rossmyers8448 Lots of mercedes cars have the creaky brakes... And well, wth, lots of other brands have it too. Happened on my Honda and Toyotas too. They just dont put too much thought on it or something.
Mercedes rotors can’t be machined when calipers need new pads. You have to replace the rotors each time because Mercedes designs the calibers to carve a notch into the outer corners of the discs. If reused they will chirp like birds.

A very nice car. I am always afraid when i go on the manufacterer configurator . When i have choosen the engine and some options i am very far from the "starting price". I want to drive a nice BMW X3 before i get a clever idea of the feeling on the driver seat. Thank you MAT. Mat, i wish you the best Christmas as possible . I am 6’5” and have really enjoyed my 2017 AMG 43. Unfortunately, I have very little legroom left with my seat position and cannot fit baby seats or carry adults behind me. Suggest switching out the brake pads for ceramics immediately after brake pad light comes on. You can avoid replacing the expensive rotors. The ceramic pads have very little brake dust. I have switched my service away from MB now that I am out of warranty and have saved a ton of cost. I would highly recommend as a used car if you have a non-MB mechanic available.
My wife's '19 GLC is the car that piqued my interest in considering a Mercedes to replace my tuned '09 WRX. I don't like SUV's, but I've been really impressed with the utility and design of the GLC. IMO, the only significant weak point on her '19 is that the suspension tuning is a bit under-damped. At 6'5", I find it very comfortable to drive. I swapped the OEM brake pads for Powerstop ceramic pads and have been extremely pleased! The ceramics tamed the twitchy/grabby brake pedal, eliminated excessive dusting, and provide excellent stopping power. They are also the first "modification" I performed on my '18 GLA45 AMG. Highly recommended!
Is there a specific way you found a Mercedes certified mechanic?
@@sparko58 No, I totally fluked out finding a mechanic that owned a 2005 SL which clearly indicated he was not afraid of MB and in fact liked working on them. He is also amazing at sourcing parts from unusual places and passes the savings along. Quite frankly, he is simply a good guy! Honesty is more important than competence in this game. Too many crooks in the industry! Dealers make most of their profits in the service/parts departments. Just stay away!

@@sparko58 Where do you live? Uk? USA? There’s a few good places the use Oem parts without the dealerships overhead prices!! Form $900 rear brake service to $530 at the local European car service with German brake pads and Brembo Rotors!! Not bad I would say!!

This is the only review I will ever need. Thank you Mat and carwow for this upload. Must say though, Mercedes have upped their game the past year with all their new cars and tech. I love that interior. Hopefully the GLA and GLB will get it as well.
a and b class has had a facelift so same thing should happen to the gla/glb it wouldn’t get the same as the glc

My mom had Audi q5 tdi few years back then went to a macan.. then back to q5.
Love the audit but the new design of GLC is just amazing! I want it for my next car after the Tesla. Unless I can afford the model s. I just want a super comfy ride which the tesla falls short on with the 20 inch tires or is it the wheels. Idk but also wish it had air suspension! 😢

I am currently waiting for delivery of GLC400e (with DC rapid charging ofc.),I don't know why you guys in UK won't be getting the range topping (best?) version. Its a shame.

To be honest, I personally think it’s just Mercedes being selfish and screwing over UK buyers on powertrain choices and equipment levels and keeping what we don’t get in the UK for other markets, as they always seem to do whenever they come out with a new model…

In India some companies don't give the cars to the reviewer bro, they gotta read the script because they gotta look at there future or channel future. This case is not in Foreign country. So what is the actual boot space of the plug in hybrid models? 400lt? (mentioned 600lt on the internal combustion engine models and then reduced by 1/3 for the PIHV)
Thing is that boot space capacity is measured from underneath the false floor to the parcel shelf. In reality you would not be able to use the space underneath in a efficient way anyway.

This makes my bmw ix3 feeling prehistoric. Going from a merc to a bmw, I miss quite a lot of features..including the pop out reversing camera and keyless entry...and lots more

Not disagreeing but on a positive note Mercedes still use physical buttons for ur heated and cooled seats, heated steering wheel and the controls for the climate are always in the same place. Some other competitors are even worse having to dig deep for climate
Matt only appears to like Porche and Bmw at the moment. He recommends the Porche Macan. A car that is at the top of the most unreliable cars list for the extended warranties survey in the UK. I am sure loads of people own them and have no problems. Many people have tech and electrical issues with these cars as many other German Suvs made by Audi and BMW. If Mercedes bring out a fast Amg perhaps they can race it against a 10000 bhp dragster that does 3.9 seconds on the quarter and say it is slow.

I am wondering if this is caused by the tension of the brakes or by the S tronic 7 speed automatic gearbox? For me it feels like the DSG gearbox wants to keep pushing the car forward for just a bit too long and too early..
Have u found out a solution to this issue? Cause my glc makes this creaking noise, and its pretty frustrating

I like this car! Over the years I have found that BMW interior materials tend to mark, wrinkle and break down much sooner than similar M-B materials (especially BMW's thin/crappy seat upholstery and carpets). These items are always made better in Mercedes Benz autos. BMW durability is plainly lacking, even though when brand new things might feel a bit softer. Actually they are just that much easier to blemish and show wear. I believe this M-B GLC has no equal in this size/price range. It will likely last quite a bit longer, cost less to maintain, and gives you that Three Pointed Star CURB APPEAL that all BMW's lack. Propeller emblem? - A joke by comparison.
Not really. Nowadays, reliability new BMW models is improving better and better compare to Mercedes. Even other luxury brands like Audi, Porsche, Lexus, Tesla and Volkswagen are also improving than Mercedes for reliability. Even Mercedes interior materials also uses cheap materials these days including Malaysia.
Just curious why has Matt gone back to the stick for the exhausts when he has the carbon fibre stick from Rimac?? Probably answered before but i cant remember for the life of me
