- We are Brian & Jessica, a married couple who started on a life-changing whole food, plant-based weight loss journey back in June 2018. In June 2022, our lives were flipped upside-down when Jessica was diagnosed with Stage 3 ovarian cancer. We continue to share our adventures (highs, lows, struggles & everything in between) in following a plant-based diet while keeping you up-to-date on Jessica's cancer treatment. In October 2023, we welcomed our very first child via gestational carrier.

Look at you doing things on your own. Being a mother gives us women a confidence we never knew we had. We become strong because our kids count on us to be strong. It's one of the many great parts of being a strong mama bear. Jessica, I'm so proud of you!! I'm thankful for your continued wellness!

Am SO glad at the 14:50 mark you note the value of going to the Mayo clinic because all the testing, MRI etc. are done on the same equipment, with people who know your health history firsthand. This is more important than many people may know. Am so happy for the good report. ♥
The ONLY positive of chemo were the cute curls I had growing in because my hair had been stick straight my entire life. I’m so thrilled your lives are in such a positive upswing. Happy holidays! I’m hopping on an airplane now to go meet my first grand-baby, also a girl. 😊
You have suffered and endured so much and now your little Elsie has changed everything for you! As a fellow cancer survivor I know cancer is never distant in one’s mind. Praying for continued dancing with “NED”!
My husband's stage 4 cancer has been treated at Mayo-Rochester for the past 2 1/2 years. He remains in remission, but continues to be followed up there every 3 months. We wouldn't think of going anywhere else. (It's just a 2 hour drive for us.) We have such confidence in his doctors and the efficiency/customer service of the clinic is second to none.
Look at Brian being a girl dad!!!!❤❤

You look amazing hair is super cute. Continue with Mayo from a Mom who lost her Daughter to colon cancer at age 51. She unfortunately had multiple hospitals due to the Covid situation and her fragile condition. I truly believe the same Doctors and same hospital hospital will be beneficial to you. First, so happy that you received good news! Second, Elsie has to be the cutest baby ever! Third, I know what you mean about going back to Mayo. We had a similar experience with my husband's cancer treatment. For all his follow-ups, we continued to go back to his treating hospital (which was huge and had a dedicated cancer hospital) because they had HIS doctors who were all familiar with HIS case. We went back for MORE than 5 years for our own peace of mind. He also had several problems in the following years that came about because of his earlier cancer treatments ... and we always went back to that hospital for treatment--even though it was a days' drive away. PS. I totally agree with Brian--your hair is adorable!
Yes! I think it’s really a very practice to get scans done at the same facility, with the same team reviewing those, etc. And I encourage you to do what YOU feel is best and good at any given time - it’s your body and your decision! All the best, Kathleen

Mayo Clinic is awesome. It's where I had my surgery for breast cancer 16 years ago. My hair looked like I had an old lady poodle perm when it grew back in post chemo. Wish I had had the know-how back then to make it look so cute like you have with yours! Now, all these years later, my curls have gone away. Glad your follow-up was good news! You don't have to justify going to Mayo. A person would be crazy not to go there if they have the means (i.e. insurance!) because it's the best place to go. People from other countries go there because they are that good. I know they took great care of me! Best Wishes to you and your sweet family!

It’s crazy what chemo does long term to hair. A student of mine, 6 years old, had bone marrow transplant at Mayo. She was blonde before, black for several years after, but eventually got blonde again. Yes it is important to go where you got the best care. Recently i had medical care at Cleveland Clinic and I too was in the very best of health care possible and I didn’t have anything life threatening. Do what makes you feel comfortable for your mental health. And it is so great that you can compartmentalize and not bring it home with you!! Congratulations Jessica, beautiful Elsie’s beautiful mom!

Try to keep going to MAYO for your cancer followups. They are the very best and all your diagnosis and treatment have been there so they know what’s going on. I have had 2 different types of cancer diagnosed and treated at two different facilities and then I moved across country and my followups are chaotic and difficult and I feel frightened about something being missed. Transferring records is NOT easy at all. Scanxiety!…normal!😢

I wish you knew what a blessing this channel is to me right now. I've followed your cancer journey from Day 1, and am so very pleased to see where you are now...because I've just been diagnosed with Stage 3 bladder cancer. I've learned from your channel to take this day by day, get the best doctors available to me, and do what they tell me. I'm really happy for you guys. I so needed to hear this good news. Been following you guys as well as Jenny Apple and Sarah Pog and both those beautiful women had stage 4 cancer and now are Angels in heaven. Elsie is adorable and having gone through 6 IVF's, numerous surgeries, procedures for infertility and then breast cancer surgery I finally adopted my bundle of joy many years ago. So, I know after adversity how wonderful it is to have that baby in your arms.

My mom was diagnosed with Colo-rectal cancer at 75. Had three operations, second one quite challenging. She got a bag, now going through reversal. Everything has been so very challenging! I am a nervous reck waiting for these tests! I thought all my contributions to stand up to cancer and Saint Jude would make my family immune to cancer! Seriously I did! Silly I know! Also losing my dad when he was 65 years young was so hard I thought my suffering quota had been filled! Seems not!!!
I pray cancer gets eradicated ! And wishing health to all! So happy for your good news! Wishing you and Brian become great grand parents! 😊 💞

The whole time you were talking she recognized your voice and kept craning her neck to try and see you. I love your short curly hair. It really looks cute on you. Listen, when I finished chemo, I loved my curls. It takes time to get use to but they may not stay forever.
Enjoy them with headbands, combs, clips. Try not to comb and brush, get you some Ouidid. I hope I spelled that right. It is the best. Don't rub after shower. Just use a towel and gently finger comb. Use a dryer attachment for curls. And just scrunch. And if you just air dry, you can use clips in, rotate, scrunch, rotate. And Ouidid has a spray that you can use all day long and scrunch!!!
Just play with it. You will grow to love it and as it gets longer wear it up in pony tail, messy buns, and ENJOY!!!!
