      1. There are limits to the amount of hours the residents can get paid to work.
      2. This is a surgical specialty. Definitely dont do anything surgical (even ob/gyn) if you dont want long, busy call shifts. Psychiatry residents RARELY work this much. Not all doctors work the same amount
      3. I went into medicine specifically for the 16 and 24 hour in-house call shifts available to CRNAs. If they were illegal, I would not be interested in anesthesia

    The fact they make a surgeon work this many hours in a row is mind boggling. Makes zero sense. Obviously it’s not your fault. The system is totally messed up. You are amazing!

    • @gracelessnesss
      @gracelessnesss Před 10 hodinami

      it's the same for every type of physician resident. my sister was in psychiatry---that is, the people prescribing you pills. she got the craziest hours ever for days straight just like this woman. awful. its a money grab because residents make less than public school teachers (per hour). it's a dangerous system that is archaic and puts patient safety at risk. some doctors that are out of training can have similar hours... but never this bad again, and for obviously much more fair pay.

    It doesn't make any sense to work a surgeon this hard. If someone is going to cut into my body they better be well rested and relaxed. If not the chance of making a mistake is high. It shouldn't be allowed.

      I completely understand what you mean & am empathetic to your situation, however, it’s important to realize that salaries are based on how profitable an industry is. Football is extremely dangerous & it’s not uncommon for athletes to have body issues post retirement. Furthermore, football is a multibillion dollar industry, how is it fair for that revenue to stay with team owners and not the players? Furthermore, most actors aren’t extremely rich (it’s not uncommon for ones in LA to work Uber in between gigs). Once again, if they are making the big bucks, it’s because the film industry is a very profitable business, evident by how many people consume television & film on a day-to-day basis. I’d much rather the athletes and actors make the money rather than CEOs who know little about how hard it is to become an amazing athlete or actor.

    • @AdrianaSanchez05
      @AdrianaSanchez05 Před 11 dny

      @@qetsiyah1766 I think the issue is that millions or billions of dollars are put into the military, but not the actual people that are risking their lives on duty it’s going to weapons and what not. Same concept with being a cop or doctor. Health insurance is crazy these companies and hospitals make millions but aren't properly paying their workers who are saving lives/risking their lives. Whereas football may be dangerous but it’s for entertainment reasons, they put themselves on the field knowing they can get hurt but will have millions at the end of it. People get deployed and killed or severely handicapped and their family isn't left with much because they weren't making much.

      I completely understand you, but to be honest I don’t study medicine for the money haha and if you ask a lot of my friends they will tell you the same, we knew well before we started that we had to work a lot and even work in two different places in the day just to make money to pay bills, but when we see patients who are in pain and we can help them that’s what pushes us to continue everyday, helping people and taking their pain away is just amazing, or even if we can’t help them, just to talk to them and make them comfortable is something that very few people have the privilege of doing.

    Edit: I appreciate the love I’m getting on this comment I say Impressive sparingly, because on one hand the life style she has is slowly killing her and we shouldn’t normalize it and think its healthy or sustainable for even a second and on the other hand masochism and grind culture is the only way you can justify this work load. I am sorry, but I couldn't not ask this question...when are you supposed to sleep? I mean, one all-nighter is enough to make me a zombie, how are you capable of performing tasks requiring precision and sharp mind to complete?

    Seriously want to know.
    Are there rules that come with Surgeons and their health?
    For ex. Medication- What if said medication causes drowsyness. Can you still perform a surgery?
    What if you have a mental illness like ADHD/MDD/BP ect. Does that affect you being able to work legally?

    Helloooo! I have a question, is there any website or place where I can get videos to watch on surgeries being performed? I don't study medicine because I'm scared of it and in general don't think I'm capable of going through it but I REALLY enjoy being able to learn little things about the body the more I watch it. And in cases of emergency where no medical help is accessible I could step in. Long story short I just want to watch it and learn lol.
    Thank you!

    Did you ever get pushback for wearing lashes as a surgical resident/in the OR? I’m starting residency in July, and I want to start getting lashes bc I’m too lazy for makeup in the morning and wanna look a little bit put together lollll😂

    72 hour call is disgusting. I knew on my surgery rotation it was NOT for me, i skipped my 7th 12 hour shift in a row they required for med students cause its retarded to work that much when youre literally PAYING to be there. Im so glad there are people like you to do this cause we need great surgeons. Ill be over here enjoying my upcoming intern year with 6 months of electives, no call and no nights. Then off to rad onc to work banker hours :D

    nice video! question when your intern was off, you had to manage everything yourself, and you had to round all the patients ie 40 patients and come up with a plan for each one, i suppose, some patients where complex, and upon doing the management/plan do you liaise with someone else for further help or?! idk, hats off doing all by yourself!
