On the last day of a volunteering trip in Zanzibar, 18-year-old Katie was innocently walking down the street when a moped pulled up beside her and threw acid all over her body.

What a brave woman. Acid attackers are the most cowardly of them all.
people like her deserve more , whether its on social media or the news paper idc, but in my opinion she needs to get more exposure for this so more people know about her story. Why arent there more people talking about REAL issues like these, her life will never be the same. And her attackers havent been caught. There are so many things that need to be dealt with by the right people.
@@Kyle_00 Sometimes the only way to carry on living is to forgive those who committed such atrocities. Hate and resentment only holds you back and makes you depressed. This woman chose happiness, good for her.

The worst part is there was no reason for this. It was just a completely random attack and they were never caught. I'm glad she didn't let it affect her.

Most victims of acid attacks usually don't look as good as they once did. But Katie looks REALLY good. It's amazing how good her medical doctors are to prevent even more damage to such a beautiful face.

sharna C I understand that there is a risk of people following these horrific ideas of acid attacks... but surely if teens were taught about these incidents they’d prevent them from happening instead of following them out because of the shocking nature of these attacks.
People commenting ‘she’s still pretty’ like that’s what they’ve taken away from this video. Much more important things than her still being pretty, such a scary story. Hopefully she isn’t affected by PTSD.

@@juliekeenan2868 it's tragic observation to go through something like this and everyone's reaction is thank god she's still attractive and some use to the planet. No it's irrelevant. Women have more to offer people need to stop reducing them to attractiveness.
Millie Palmer of course there’s more to her and women in general than just looking pretty but the point is usually when people suffer from acid attacks it’s much more obvious and they don’t look much like themselves anymore. Of course she went through a lot but if she had to look in the mirror and see a face that looked nothing like it used to her self confidence would probably be much worse. She even said she would cover herself. It’s a horrible thing that happened to her but at least in terms of how it physically affected her it could have been worse.
Why is no one talking about the guy? He basically saved her life. He’s amazing

I hate that so many people’s reactions to her story are primarily relief that she is still considered attractive and not disgust and outrage that acid attacks are so prevalent.
Arin I see NO comments feeling relieved that she looks good, they’re all saying they’re thankful she still looks very pretty considering how she used to feel ugly and she’d cover herself up and she would never go outside. Her appearance took a toll on her social life and her life in general, so I think regaining some of her old beauty is kind of important. But MOST of the comments here are talking about the attackers and how they’re monsters so you shouldn’t see the negative side of things.

I sincerely hope she’s able to cope with the trauma as much as possible and still be able to look at herself in the mirror and see beauty.
I personally cherish my scars, because although they remind me of a very painful time in my life, the fact that they're healed is a symbol that things can and do get better when you have the strength to keep living. I hope she and everyone with scars can see that, too. Especially with scars that healed as beautifully as hers from such horrible burns, it’s an even greater symbol of strength and hope.

In a lot of secluded communities there is a lot of sexism, and when she came she was probably looked at as an outsider, and she was educating women too, so they probably felt threatened by that.
