    I bought my e-m1 used for $240 few months back, it's seriously such an awesome camera. Mine only had 7000 shutters on it. Basically like new. And Olympus still updates firmware for them. I got the latest firmware on it, and it's been an awesome little camera. Seriously for anyone looking to do some hiking remote landscape shots, just get the little 12-45mm f/4 Pro lens with this thing, and for about $600 you have a full weather proof setup that's weather sealed and you can basically take it to Antarctica.

    The E-M5iii is just a pure joy to own and shoot. I love it. The viewfinder, AF, jpegs, controls, and looks. And honestly it doesn’t feel or look cheap to me, I’ve owned many plastic cameras going back to the Canon 60D. It gives gear heads a conniption, but has never caused a problem for me.

    I keep looking at the newer EM1s. I had to sell my setup to pay cancer bills and start over. I got an EM1 again. I loved it before and it did not get any worse when they came out with the mkII and III. My prints are usually 11X14 with some book and album covers. A couple places I do postcards and calendars for. The EM1 still does it all for me and it fits my hands well. May get a II later now I have my lenses. Nice to see them all. Just wish they still made the Pen F to replace my 10II for a small camera. I had a 17/1.8 or 15/1.7 on it and it was my inside discrete camera. I know all the features of the EM1 mkII and III. It is just the EM1 the bonded with me. I like to have a camera on each side when I am hiking. So my decision is get a mkII (or III) or get 3 EM1s so I have a couple backups for the future.

  • @YoSpiff

    I bought an EM1 Mk1 last year for about $300 US. Had a very low shutter count. Very happy with that deal. Maybe I'll get a Mk 2 or 3 once they aren't bleeding edge any longer. But I'm a hobbyist. If I were a pro, perhaps I'd feel a need for some of the latest and greatest features. Also have an EM10 MkII but don't feel any need to upgrade that to an EM5.

  • @ASMROW
    @ASMROW Před 4 lety

    Nice vid. I tried the Canon 60D, Canon m50, canon m6 mark ii, the Sony a6400, and finally the Em5 mark iii and I was sold! This little Em5 is the best thing I've shot with. Just beautiful to carry and love the small bite-size zuiko lenses such as the 17mm, 25, 45 f1.8 and the one you using 12mm f2. I disagree with you, they didn't cheap out on the materials. They just made it lighter and still retains the weather sealing and dust proof. Plus I love the retro plasticy feel. I had so dreams but then it all crashed down when I heard the sad news about Olympus. At least I will be the proud owner of one of their last cameras to be ever made.

    em1 is still very competitive in 2020, despite the 16mp sensor is a little outdated compare with other new mirroless. But if you are not looking for huge print, 16mp is good enough for a professional camera. Many DSLR like canon eos in the same resolution can still do very good job in advertising photography. Sensor size is not the only decisive thing for photography.

    I've owned the Mk I for a number of years and have used it so much that I've worn the paint off all the edges. That said, I still love using it. About a year ago, I also purchased a Canon EOS R. Both cameras are really awesome examples of photographic excellence. That said, I still pick up the old Olympus more than the EOS R. Why? Well, in normal shooting conditions, you really can't see any IQ differences between them, and the Olympus is just sooo nice to carry and use.
    I also agree with your comments on Olympus lenses. While my Canons also have great lenses, I am never surprised by the results I get from Olympus. Their pro lenses are just so good! Take chromatic aberrations as an example. I just never see them with the Olympus glass.

    I have the E3, EM-1 Mark 1 and Mark 2, and want the Mark 3. I shoot athletics, which is why the Mark 3 seems a useful upgrade. It has improved autofocus and the AF points are customisable - that will be useful when shooting sprint races when you want the AF to stay on the leading runner. The improved face detection should also be useful - it's not fast enough in the Mark 2. Capturing emotion is a significant component of sports photography, so candid portraits on the fly are a thing for me.. Regarding the review, your positive comments about 'image quality' are encouraging, not that I ever doubted the image quality (by my definition) of my Olympus cameras. I recently saw a review of the Mark 3 from Engadget in which the reviewer was pretty negative about nearly everything, including image quality. The title of his clip was 'Fast, but way behind rivals'. The comments he got were an interesting read.

    I loved the colours that came out of the first Pens. The E-PL1 produced the best ooc JPGs, I ever saw from a camera. Damn those colours where so unbelievable beautiful.
    But they lost it completely with the E-M5 MKI and these colours never came back. My mom bought herself an E-M10 MKI. She hated the new colours, too. She came from the E-PL2.
    So I don’t get it, when you talk about those special colours, because these crazy good colours are gone a for long time now. But maybe you’re more a fan of the new Olympus colours.
    After the E-PL1 I never used ooc JPGs again. Never?! No, because there is a new camera that produces such nice occ JPGs. It’s the Canon G5X MKII.
    For me, mFT got obsolete in many ways with cameras like the RX100 V, VI, VII or the G5X MKII. The base ISO looks even better than what my E-M5 MKI RAWs look like.
    My mom did something, I raised my eyebrow when I first heard it. She bought herself a RX100 IV+VI so she has one good cam in lowlight and one for the zoomrange. She sold all her Olympus stuff and now, I understand her. Because there is absolutly no difference in the picture quality and she don’t even need a camera bag for these two cameras.
    So yes, you can buy a cheap E-M1 MKI and some cheap glas, but when I see what my G5X MKII delivers, I don’t know if I would recommend it anymore. It replaces lenses like the 12mm F2 and you can even use it under low light at events etc. for sure it’s limited but if you want more, go with an A7iii and a plastic 50mm F1.8. You might not get the stabilization of a modern Olympus but, you don’t have to pay 1250€ for a 25mm F1.2 to get the DOF of a normal 50mm F1.8.
