    I have an E-PM1 since 2011, taken 50k + images and still going strong. Don't worry about durability, Olympus cameras are made to last.

      Yup. I recently bought an E-1 DSLR that Olympus made back in 2003. (See this video I just posted: czcams.com/video/mMkOFlpwaio/video.html). Still fully functional, still takes beautiful photos. 👍

    Enjoyed your video, I have the EM-1 MII with the grip and I find it much more comfortable to use even with the 100-400...much better gripping in addition to the portrait mode shooting with those additional buttons for shutter release and other adjustments.

    I've removed the tripod collar from 40-150 2.8 and 300/4 and save around 100g. I have no problems handling my EM1mk2 with those long lenses and teleconverters. I don't use tripod.

      I'm glad you don't. Some people do, that's why I dealt with this issue in the video.

      @@RaoulPop yes, I didn't want sound mean.
      I mean you can save some weight removing collars if you don't use tripod. That helps partially but could be worth to try.
      Obviously you are right that the bigger grip of em1x is better for bigger lenses. 👍

    The sale of Olympus Imaging is a very good thing. Olympus Corp lost interest in cameras about five years ago which is why the last few cameras weren’t really pushing the boundaries any more. All indications are that the new OM-Digital has a bit of the old Maitani spirit about it. They seem to be revitalising the company, and I look forward to seeing the new cameras and lenses from them over the next five years. They seem to be committed to the Pro strategy that Olympus had been following for a while. The signs are good that new cameras will be coming in the next year.

      While I hope that what you're saying is true about the new owners, I disagree with your assessment about Olympus' efforts. They had periods where development lagged, but when they put their minds to it, they made some pretty amazing cameras and lenses. You have to keep in mind that they didn't have the revenues and consequently the R&D dollars of the big camera manufacturers, who ironically, mostly copied Olympus. They had a small percentage of the market share, yet they were constantly innovating, constantly bringing new inventions to the market, and they suffered for it. History shows, time and time again, that those who pioneer new inventions aren't the ones who make the money from them, because the public doesn't fully appreciate them until years and years later. At least when the camera division was owned by the larger company, they could scrape and find funds from other divisions to continue the camera development. The new owners will have to somehow find the funds solely from the camera and lens sales in a shrinking camera market where smartphones dominate and people either don't appreciate the quality of dedicated cameras, or they don't take the time to learn how to use their equipment properly once they purchase it, so it gathers dust on their shelves. It's a tough time for them and I hope they manage to go forward successfully. They certainly have their work cut out for them.

      @@RaoulPop Olympus was doing fine up until 2012. But the arrests of many at the board level, executive level, and the upper engineering level for involvement in money laundering and close association with the Yakuza had a huge impact on morale, and the new board members didn’t really have an emotional investment in cameras. This is why the recent history has been such a mixed bag. On the one hand there have been lacklustre camera releases. For example the E-M1 III is an excellent camera, but really it is little more than the Mark II version that has had little more than a quick wipe-over with a dusting brush. On the other hand, the move into more high end Pro lenses has been a wise move. The new super tele zoom, for example, is out of stock everywhere because manufacturing cannot keep up with demand. This mix of good and bad moves at Olympus is exactly what you would expect at a company that had lost s clear sense of direction at the highest levels. This is why I say that getting away from an unsupportive board at Olympus Corp is a great thing for OM-Digital. Having an upper management that is exclusively focussed on the camera business is what they have needed for a while.

    • @RaoulPop
      @RaoulPop  Před 3 lety +5

      @@artistjoh The Mark III is actually a "marked" (pun intended) improvement over the Mark II, because it has the same processor and picture engine as the EM1-X. Because of that, it can take handheld high resolution shots, it has faster AF, it has the same shutter mechanism as the EM1-X, meaning a much longer life for the shutter (over 400,000 actuations), it has Live ND like the E-M1X, and it has Starry Sky AF, which is a feature that no other leading camera has, to my knowledge. So while it looks very much like the Mark II, it's much better inside. Like you, I truly hope the new management will take Olympus cameras to new heights and I look forward to seeing more new cameras and lenses. For example, I'd love to see them bring over the famed f2.0 Four Thirds zooms to the MFT system. That would be amazing. And I also appreciate being able to talk with someone calmly about a subject (which is a rare thing on the internet these days), even though we disagree on some points.

      @@RaoulPop It matters less whether a camera is actually good, than the perception of it by potential customers, and in the case of the E-M1 III, customers saw at as “same old, same old.” It just didn’t have something that could excite interest like alternatives from competitors could. The Olympus Pro lens strategy has been more successful for them. They have reported, for example, that they are unable to make enough of the new super tele zoom to keep up with demand. They just need a camera that will get people lining up to buy it, and that hasn’t been the case for a while now. Of course Olympus has the same problem as Nikon, they missed the boat on video and the vlogging/CZcams demand that is becoming a large portion of the market.

    Battery grip with the M1 Mark 2 & 3 is a good way to augment the grip. A must for event shooting if only for the extra battery life but also grip balance with larger lenses.

    I own the EM1X the EM 1.2 and the Pen F. Of course the EM1x just crushes on file transfer and AF tracking and speed etc. The EM1.2 is slower but hey it is also smaller. The Pen F can't even pretend to compete with the other two. Except it is so small and portable and just a delight to have on me when I am traveling. For me it is a little gem I will keep for a long time. The other two are my wildlife cameras the Pen F is street and people and travel and everyday.

    • @RaoulPop
      @RaoulPop  Před 3 lety +3

      As you saw me in the video, I couldn't believe how small the E-M1 Mark II and Mark III are. I hadn't had them in my hand, so to speak, until now. From the press photos, I imagined them to be noticeably bigger than the PEN-F, but they aren't, not really. If you were to imagine the E-M1 Mark III without a grip, it's pretty much the same thickness as the PEN-F, and just about the same height, yet so much more powerful. I still wouldn't give up my PEN-F though. I love that little thing. Put a light lens on it and it's a joy to use!

    • @terrywbreedlove
      @terrywbreedlove Před 3 lety +2

      @@RaoulPop I have had the Pen F for a long time. And have a three lens kit with it. The 25mm which lives in it. The 45mm 1.8 and the 75mm. Small light and easy to carry on the plane. I bought the other two cameras to use with the 300mm F4 and 40-150 F2.8 as my wildlife kit. And they are fantastic but it is the Pen F that always puts a smile on my face out shooting street etc. Well when we could do that and as soon as Covid is taken care of I will again.
