What you completely ignored about my comment is that I said: “She got life, while rapists get only a few years” it’s very interesting that you completely ignored the second part. Why is that? Do you believe that it is ok for rapists to only get a few years, while someone who had this happen to them get life?

As someone who was a victim of SA by my step dad i feel i need to weigh in. I remember it like it happened last night. I was only [[3]] YRS OLD!! Eaater sunday when he first tested it. I was nearly 12 when my torture finally ended. I didn't know for until i started school that it was wrong. But when i did i started to hate him. Every time he came into my room i would cry. Like sobbing type cry. Id push & pull and use my feet to push my dresser infront of my door to block it. Id write notes on my door that said "dad do not come in my room" my mom just thought i was being a kid. After he was put in prison i felt better, but very temporarily. A few years later i found out he was getting out. He only served 6 yrs for what he did to me! We live in a small town. Really small. So of course i eventually ran into him at a grocery store. My legs almost buckled. If i would've had a weapon in my sure i wouldn't have used it on him. Not just bec of what he did to me, not just bec i had a 3 year old daughter now, not just bec of the trauma i still suffer from, but bec when i confronted him i literally watched as he was looking around me on repeat. I turned to see what he couldn't stop looking at. It was a mother with her maybe 6 year old daughter. He hadnt changed AT ALL. As he's apologizing to me (which i was suprised he even said) he couldn't stop lurking over my shoulder at that little girl. So i flipped around and YELLED to the mom. "This man SA me from 3 to almost 12. I ran into him here & he cant stop staring at your daughter. Please get her out of here she isn't safe." Then i yelled it to the entire store. "Please get your kids out of here. This man ABUSED ME my whole childhood & was its releasedfrom prison." Now,had i not seen him doing that i would not have caused that kind of scene. I was keeping it quite until i seen that bec i was still at a point of punishing myself for what he did. It was humiliating and still it to be honest. Once you've been betrayed like this things inside you snap. Starting with your heart. You're stomach, your body starts to fail you. You want to puke. Then you snap mentally!! If i had a weapon in that store idk what i would've done. When he left my knees went weak. I couldn't stand up. I was totally embarrassed, but , my body failed me. I believe jade snapped more & more as time went on. Once she got over the initial shock, her sickness and sadness turned into anger which turned into rage!! Its wild that she got more time then CHILD *GRAPESTS* AND MOLESTERS do!!! I'm not saying let her walk free. But i am saying make harsher punishment for these crimes.

First of all, I'm so sorry for what you had to go through. I know how it feels to be unsafe in your own goddamn house where you are supposed to feel the safest. But I won't say I understand your pain totally. I was molested by my cousin when I was 13, he was a year older than me. His fingers still linger all around my mind. I was scared when few months later my own grandfather held my hand out of love because of that man. When I cried about this to my mother, she said, "You might've gotten his actions wrong, he might just be playing." I cried and begged my own damn mother to believe that it wasn't playful at all and in fact very disgusting, and after a few minutes of my begging, she told me not to tell this to anyone, not even my own elder brother or father. She forbade me to ever repeat those words again and told ME to stay away from him. It was truly haunting, I used to wake up at night thinking about what more he could have done, had I not locked myself in a room all day long till I stayed in my maternal grandparents' house. She never said a word to him, and it truly broke my heart that my own mother wasn't giving me the mental comfort I needed the most at that time.
I just cannot imagine the terror one might feel after getting SA'd as I was just inappropriately touched. I hope you are living a better life now and getting the therapy you need.
About the case, I truly believe she should have gotten less period in jail and rather put in a good mental institution for therapy. She didn't just murder someone for sadistic pleasures, Jade had reasons for it although not justified. I believe that had our system given actual punishments to pedos, molesters, rapists, and people like them, she would've kept faith in the law and handed him over to the police. But I bet the police might've given him some months' punishment to absolutely nothing at all at parole if Tom had said, "I promise not to repeat my mistakes again" and the police would've waived off the case by saying, "there's no potential harm to you so we would not arrest him." This is how I imagine things going if she had handed him over to the police.
Also, I would like to make it clear that, I do not support her decision of murder as a solution, but she is not a potential threat to society atleast not as threatful as those rapists roaming around freely after spending little to no time in jail. I've seen cases where the assault was so violent that the victim died because of it, and yet the predator was released after just 2 mere years of jail. Law NEEDS TO MAKE BETTER punishments for those predators as no person roaming on the same street as them is safe as well. These are my thoughts, and you can counter them, but I highly doubt if I would go against them as I've made up my mind.

The butterfly farm was actually a beautiful thing and having the butterfly fly away to symbolize. Letting go of grief is so powerful. After my mother passed away I saw a baby butterfly flying around after I said a prayer asking if she was okay and if she was with God. And then on my wedding day I cried out to God wanting to know with my mom and dad were there with me and when I open my eyes two butterflies came down and literally hit me right in the face. So butterflies hold a special place in my heart as a symbol of renewal after loss. I relate to this case. When I was in my early twenties (about ten years ago now), my sister’s ex-husband would regularly do updates and settings changes for me on my phone. One day I asked for it back quickly when he had it, and when I went into my photos, the first thing that came up were nude photos I had taken. That means that he was looking at them, and had to exit out quickly. And they were buried pretty far into my photos.
I’ve never told anyone. I still feel so icky and betrayed, and like it was my fault for having those on my phone, but it’s not my fault. I thought I had a ‘brother’. Now I wonder how far back that went. If he sent them to his phone. It almost feels like a sexual assault, honestly.

My take? She was everything but cold-blooded. It's not like she planned it months prior. She saw those pictures, went crazy, and came up with a plan, which might seem organized, but in fact it was a mess. If she really wanted to do that, she would certainly ask herself "Is it really the only way? Am I going to regret this later?". The only thing she knew is that her world shattered, and knowing that he was her only real family, besides her biological father, is heartbreaking.
I am not looking for excuses, because murder can't be excused. If an excuse can't be made, we always seek for explanation. And my view on this case is that the love for him suddenly turned into fear, which is the worst thing that happen when it comes to relatives. I can’t help but feel like there is more to the story and that the pictures served as a catalyst. I was molested when I was younger and while I didn’t remember much of my childhood I had this one memory that stuck with me and made me feel uncomfortable. It wasn’t until I had a realisation as an adult that I understood what had actually happened/ that it was wrong and with therapy I uncovered more of it. The human mind can do a lot of things to minimise trauma; we’ll think things weren’t that bad etc when really they were. It caused a ripple effect for me where I questioned every interaction and realised just how inappropriate they were. Just speculation but I think it was the same for her, which is why she really spiralled, not just because of the pictures. I could be wrong.

went through something similar, but just as traumatizing. i have a step father who i called "Dad". he and i were closer than i was with my bio dad and we bonded over the fact we both had horrible childhoods. he was a registered sex offender but everyone said "oh he was a coach for little boys soccer and there was a kid named BJ. the other kids made suggestive jokes to bully him and one day he had enough and asked the kids if they even know what BJ means. when they said no, he explained what it meant to them. the kids told their parents and they called the police and that's what happened." i was young when i was told that story, and he was never inappropriate with me or my siblings, so i accepted it as fact and moved on. he was happy when i was pregnant and gave birth, said he was happy to finally be a grandfather. whenever he was around, i let him hold my daughter. he did not touch her inappropriately nor did he say anything off the wall. he even bought her birthday gifts that she loved. he was adored by everyone. then, some months before i gave birth to my son, i texted him "hey it's been a while. how've u been?" and he didn't respond. i waited 3 days before texting my aunt who lives near him if anything happened, if he was ok. she called me to say "uhhh so FBI raided his home. he's in jail for the rest of his life." i was shocked and asked for what. she paused before she said "he had child pornography on his computer". my heart fell and my entire world just shattered. he was dad to me, he was grandpa to my daughter. it didn't make any sense to me, and it still doesn't. im somewhat at peace knowing he's locked up and isn't getting out. i haven't attempted to make any calls to where he's being held, i never want to talk to him again. no one blames me either

This is the first time that I can realistically see both sides of the story being plausible.
I’m a nurse on a neurology unit. So we see a lot of elderly patients in their 60’s-80’s with multiple comorbidities (heart failure, mental health issues, physical limitations, strokes, etc). As well as dozens of patients a week coming in for withdrawal and psychosis from it. When people have been abusing drugs, especially prescription drugs, and alcohol for so long that it’s ruined their health/quality of life- they don’t see a reason to stop now. “I’m gonna die anyway. My life is crap. What’s the point”.
Sooooo many times these patients discharge after weeks of recovery and going through the hardest part of the withdrawal process- only to hop in the car, smoke a cigarette’s and wash down their entire bottle of medicine with alcohol from the CVS next door
. They are back in our care the next week and on another month long admission for the same thing.
Other than her saying “I dosed the heck out of him”- the story driving home is very realistic in regards to the person abusing their medications and having a lethal overdose their body cannot handle anymore. Family members buying alcohol, foods against dietary restrictions, etc. is very common as well. Those in the midst of addictions are selfish/emotional/manipulative and it’s easier to get them what they want than it is to handle them. ESPECIALLY when the family member you loved and trusted just hurt you more than anything else could ever do.
For what happened after they got home, that’s where it goes off the rails for me. But I’m not going to lie- I have seen family members do crazy things to get a fallen person off the ground so they don’t have to call EMS. Tying towels to each other to use as a gait belt is something I’ve seen more than I would like to 😅.
Regardless of anything. If she couldn’t of gotten him out of the car and into the house. Call EMS. Best case: they help you get him inside. Worst case: he gets re-admitted to the facility and get more rehabilitation care or placed into a SNF. Even if your family member is being manipulative and angry screaming at you to not call EMS because they want to get home and not go back to the facility- do it anyway. Call EMS. Falls are the biggest cause of accidental injuries and death in elderly patient. I see at least one patient a week that is specifically an elderly person who tripped getting in or out of the car. Even if it’s just a few inches. They don’t bounce back like young people do.
