    A guy who owns a tabletop gaming store put the dvd of Theodore Rex on top of the the thermostat, plainly visible to everyone. It's one of the first things you notice when you walk in. After a year if going there I finally asked him why. He said: "So that I remember what Hell is. It's been there for ten years. Nobody's swiped it yet and I'm terrified no one will."
    He was treating this movie like a cursed object that had to be taken from him to transfer the baleful energy away from himself. God damn.

    I just watched an episode of 'The Critic' where Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert do their own voices. They have a falling out, and insult each other. At one point, Ebert says to Siskel 'Well YOU liked Carnosaur!" This is an actual thing that happened in human history.

      I had my fingers crossed for the finale being a Gus Van Sant style shot-for-shot remake of Nukie but at the end, rather than all the townsfolk putting aside their differences to do the Nukie or however that movie ends, instead Mr. Plinkett's VCR miraculously starts working again and he finally gets to watch his Night Court tape...
      But THEN he realizes that he had been confusing that show's title with Cheers this whole time and he actually fuckin' hates Night Court. Pan back as Plinkett stands and screams a very long, awkwardly inflected Darth-Vader-at-the-end-of-Episode-3 style "NOOOOOOO!"

      That's the only version I've seen and I recall the rose-biting being a payoff of something Human Paul Walker did in the first act. So either I'm remembering wrong, all of them managed to miss it or they cut it out of the video release, which makes absolutely no sense.

    • @dunbar9finger
      @dunbar9finger Před 10 měsíci +14

      Yeah part of what confused the RLM crew was that some of the gore scenes that got cut also contain exposition that got cut with it. Like the bit with the T-rex eating the rose makes more sense in the full cut where it's a callback to something the boyfriend had done before he was still human, and he was eating the rose to remind Denise Richards "hey, remember when I did this thing earlier? It's me!" I mean, it's dumb, but less dumb than it looks when the reference it's talking about is edited out.

You guys clearly don't appreciate the genius that is Tammy and the T-Rex if you can't even appreciate an emotional moment like that. I read that the original version of _Theodore Rex_ was a standard gritty buddy-cop film (along the lines of _Lethal Weapon)..._ that just-so-happened to have a humanoid T-Rex as one of the partners because the writer wanted to make one element of the story really "out there." But the studio decided to make it a kids' movie.
    I feel like if they had went in the original direction and treated the film 100% seriously (down to having either a PG-13 or R rating), and cast someone like a Bruce Willis as the human lead...
    *...BUT* also peppered in subtle meta-jokes about the buddy-cop and action genres, and *never* once acknowledged the bizareness of there being humanoid dinosaurs... the movie *might* have worked as a weird-ass satire of action movies and film tropes/conventions.
