    Episode Notes:
    1. Saturn and XB360 versions running on real hardware.
    2. The Saturn version of VF3 was rumored to use an accelerator cartridge to help the Saturn render the polygons. I'd love to see how far that got in development.
    3. There was also a version in the works that was basically just like VF2 here. No 3D backgrounds but running at 704x480 and 60fps. Would have liked to have seen that as well.
    4. A PC version was based on the Saturn release at the time. It allowed for higher polygon fighters but still had 2D backgrounds.
    5. Virtua Fighter 2 used the knowledge gained from Virtua Fighter Remix and the creation of the SGL(Sega Graphics Library). Had Sega been properly prepared at launch with this knowledge, 3D development could have been so much easier for 3rd parties.
    6. VF2's engine is not perfect. It still has texture and polygon glitches here and there. It also has hitching and slowdown, though infrequently.
    7. This also includes the 2.1 update from the arcade. You turn it on in the options and it tweaks the gameplay and AI a bit.
    8. There are a number of Easter eggs in this one. You can play against the letters character from the name input screen, and you can use Dural.
    9. While I appreciated Sega's attempt to bring 3D caged fighting and light sourcing into the Fighting Vipers and Fighters Megamix engines, I still prefer the high rez look of this.
    10. This game is a nightmare to capture for. The Framemeister hates it. It switches resolution frequently, so there are 5 second or more video drops all the time. Dead or Alive is another one that does it terribly.

Aye! This is a really nice review Sega Lord X. I really enjoyed watching it. And this game VF2 and it's gameplay, is a definite classic. And the music in this game is super cool. All of a sudden while watching VF2 in this review, I got back a strong taste of the 90's gaming scene again. Epic times to be a kid.👍😎

The game, the masterpiece, one of my all time favorite games, I was blown away when I first saw the arcade for the first game, and loved the series since, I got all games, even the Game Gear one, that I bought day one in 1996. This port of VF2 is unreal, and I alternate between it and the arcade.

I will never forget the day i put Virtua Fighter 2 into my Sega Saturn, almost on a par with firing my Saturn on for the first time and playing Sega Rally! I was a massive VS fighter fan at the time, i got really good with Jacky and pulling off some of his fancy moves to finish your opponent off was extremely satisfying. An amazing port of an excellent game that is still well worth playing to this day.

my neighbors had this game - its one of the games that changed everything for me. 3d graphics at a smooth 60 fps, I hadn't seen anything like it. Its only now, over 20 years later, when I come to the realization I've only played VF2 a handful of times. When we got our Saturn, we never ended up getting Virtua Fighter 2 (or the other game that blew my mind at the time, Virtua Cop). Ended up replacing the saturn with a n64 and never even thought about it until now. the games we had for the saturn were trash, I'm surprised I still even liked videogames after that.

@@alex.starostin Tekken 3 is an incredible game, however looks wise it's a lower resolution 384x480 (nearly half the vertical Res) and very jagged to say it came out 2 years later, lovely shading and lighting though.
VF2 running in its high resolution mode 708x480 on Saturn at that flawless 60fps is just stunning for the time, the closest the PlayStation got to that I would say is Tobal 2. Purely talking about looks of course not gameplay or anything like that.

Used to play that game on the Saturn. Had one of the best soundtracks. Only $5 dollars on X-Box 360 & plays on X-Box One. Wish it came out as an SEGA AGES game for Nintendo Switch along with other classics sega games like Daytona USA, Sega Rally, Virtua Cop, Sonic Adventure games, Nights into Dreams, & so on. That would have been great for Switch owners to play on the go. Awesome video.

Oh yeah. I first played the original VF at a convenience store near where I lived. Since I had only played Street Fighter 2 by that time, I really enjoyed the 3D polygonal approach, and the more realistic fighting. It wasn't until early 1997 when I bought my Saturn, and it came with Sega Rally Championship and a 3-pack featuring Virtua Cop, Daytona USA and of course, VF2, all for free.
Ultimately I played VF2 most out of all of them. And to this day I still have my original Saturn hooked up, as well as all those games. And VF2 is still a blast to play, though these days I also have VF2 on my XB1.
