Hello you two, if you like castles, then be sure to visit Eltz Castle near the Moselle. This castle has existed for over 900 years and has never been conquered or destroyed. It is therefore authentic and has been continuously inhabited by the owner family of the Counts of Eltz until the present day. This castle was even immortalized as a portrait on the 500 DM banknote. It is unique and, in contrast to Neuschwanstein, not a fantasy castle of a romantic King.
By the way, there are over 25,000 castles and palaces in Germany (most of them only as ruins), which is more buildings of this type than McDonald's has in restaurants worldwide... 😮
I live on the other side of the Rhine opposite Drachenburg Castle, where the stones for the construction of Cologne Cathedral were quarried. At the Drachenfels, on which the ruins of Drachenburg stand (a great vantage point over the Rhine valley and the city of Bonn to Cologne), you can still see the traces of the former quarry. On my side of the Rhine Valley there is also a quarry for the Cologne Cathedral. There is a lot of history to experience in the Rhineland. By the way, not only does Bonn host the most famous composer in the area, Ludwig van Beethoven, but it is also the birthplace of HARIBO's famous gummy bears. The inventor named them after his name and the city in which he produced them, HAns RIegel BOnn.

Kurt Vonnegut touches on his experience in one of his novels of being a POW during the burning of Dresden. Pretty horrific. I read a autobiography of a RAAF navigator who mentioned that they just flew towards the horrific glow on the horizon. Being mostly timber gothic style buildings they dropped incendiaries to fuel the flames. No chance for the people below but it was a huge railway and logistics junction for the Nazi war effort.

A nice start to explore Germany, can´t wait that you find out more about my country. Here are some answers to your questions: The Castle at 11:58 is "Schloß Drachenburg" / "Dragoncastle Palace" in Königswinter. The "wee" Building at 15:23 is the "Elbphilharmonie", the philharmonic hall at the Elbe river. Funfact about Neuschwanstein: Once completed, the castle should have had over 200 different interior rooms, including rooms for guests and servants as well as for access and supplies. But only around 15 rooms and halls were completed and equipped. As you asked for the place where we (the germans watching) lived; I´m from Kevelaer, a small town at the Lower Rine district next to the dutch border. And if you are interested in more Germay related stuff with propper background, maby check out a chanel from a german person, living not far away from you: Feli from Germay, living in a "wee" town called Cincinnati, OH 45219 🤪

    Dear Natasha, dear Debbie,
I come from Germany, have lived here since I was born and just happened to come across your great video and was touched by your friendly criticism of our country. I was also surprised and pleased by the many positive comments here about Germany. Yes, it's true, there are many beautiful places in Germany (as in every other country in the world) and yet the historical origins of such places determine how we see them with different eyes even if we are not from this country ourselves come. For example, I can very well understand how much people want to visit places like this everywhere. Of course, there are not only beautiful places in Germany and not every landscape in Germany looks as beautiful as in our state of Bavaria. But that's probably normal everywhere. The real appeal is actually getting to know the associated cultural peculiarities and people openly. For example, as a German, it would be a real dream for me to get to know a real, small American town once in my life or the differences and areas between a farmland and Salem (NY), for example. We humans everywhere have a lot that we can share with other people to amaze us. And that perhaps unites us all more than all our differences in the world.
It's all the nicer for me to have discovered your podcast here, which I immediately subscribed to in order to find out more about your life, thoughts and feelings.
With this in mind, warm greetings from Germany to all of you.

This video didn’t mention Bremen which is a marvelous place to visit. As everyone else has said, German food is spectacular! The food featured in Northern Germany is a “Krabben” sandwich. “Krabben” are tiny shrimp. The sandwich is delicious. And I’ll torture you by telling you that there are no better fried potatoes in the world! I miss German food greatly. Sigh. I’ve been living in Sweden for the last 26 years with my Swedish husband. I’m the 74 year old American woman who has lived in Europe for the last 35 years. Now, I am really good at preparing Mexican food with the ingredients I can buy here, but it is entirely different with German food because it’s difficult to find the ingredients - primarily the meats. And I never mastered the art of frying potatoes as they do. 😢 I really enjoy watching your reactions! Fun fact, Germany has more than twice as many castles as the USA has Mc Donalds, at 24.5% of the population and less than 4% of the land area. So yes, its rarely far away from some castles here, and most of our neighbours aren't far behind that either. Personally, I find historic, particularly hanseatic age, city centers more pretty even, and more enjoyable in terms of what to do certainly.

There is a valley in Switzerland, with a road through it,where the source of the Rhine(flows into the North Sea),and the Danube(flows into the Black Sea) are on either side of the road,it's fascinating to realise that both these rivers end up thousands of miles apart, but start together!

11:50 That's Castle Drachenburg at Königswinter. It was build in 1882, therefore it is a very "young" castle compared to most of the medieval Castle alonge the Rhein.

Okay, as I continue watching the Video, a few more comments.
The pronunciation of the Places is not that good, so please don't learn these.
Neu-Schwanstein is beatiful from the outside, but very very dark on the inside. I did not like it that much. Instead I would like to recommend Castle Linderhof. It's small, but absolutely stuuuuuunning! From the out- and inside!
Greetings from close to Frankfurt and yes, my Hometown has it's one Castle 😛

It's weird that he didn't mention Mainau in lake Constance... an island now dedicated to being a massive park with loads of colourful flowers in the spring and summer, a greenhouse which is home to a myriad of butterflies, a castle of the later Teutonic Order, and so on. It's actually so warm that a lot of tropical plants including palmtrees grow there.

I just found your channel and I am already in love! It fills my heart with immense joy seeing you two reacting to the beauty that our country here has to offer. I feel sometimes we take little things like the beautiful trees and bridges etc. for granted cause they are always there for us to explore. You made me realize again how lucky I am to live in this country. Of course it is not perfect but I believe no country is! And we definitely got blessed with some of the landscapes we have for sure! :)
I was born in North-Rhine-Westphalia, which is a beautiful region in the west of Germany, known for its mining history. And some ppl think that part of Germany is dark and grey still but it really isn't. There are so much forests and greenery there, too. Now I live in Hamburg and it is such a beautiful city. You should definitely have a closer look at it. Cause eventhough they video did a good job in showing some parts of it, I feel a lot of things were missing, some things that make Hamburg the beautiful place it is!
Definitely gonna check out some of your other videos cause your positive energy is infectious. 😊
Oh and I'm totally with you: I love the mountains and castles. Yes, we have loads of them! Neuschwanstein Castle is really breathtaking. But we have soooo many more!

Greetings from Germany. I live in a small town in North Rhine-Westphalia about 40km from Cologne. Not far from me there is also an old castle from the Middle Ages called "Schloss Burg". There is a very nice museum in there. But also great views and lots of good hiking trails if anyone likes hiking.

    Hey guys,
First of all, loved your reaction
I’m from Germany, living in a small village in the Black Forest, near Freiburg. Loved growing up in and around the mountains and Forrest. I’d recommend going up on mount Belchen or feldberg, the views you get on the „Rheinebene“ are breathtaking, especially on a sunny day, when you can see the Vogesen all the way over in France

You can take a river cruise on the Danube through Hungary Slovakia Austria and Germany. The cruise boats are lovely and the stops are all in the city centres because that's how the cities grew. It's almost like being on a bus. You step off the boat and just walk a short way into the centre., so much to see, so much beautiful scenery.

Thank you for that lovely trip around my ancestral home. Its exactly how I remember it. I'm half English half German, my family come from Marbach-am-neckar & I believe I may still have family there.
Marbach is worth checking out, it's beautiful and has plenty of interesting history. You may also want to check out more of the Rhine, especially around Koblenze. I have many fond memories of exploring the area as a kid with my grandparents, I think if I remember right they have the biggest wooden clock there.
Foods for you to try, maultasche, in a knorr chicken noodle soup & Sauerbraten & Spaetzle.
Enjoy learning about the best country in the world. X

"Give me a little cabin there" is a good one. Usually Eibsee is as crowded as a shopping mall on a Saturday.
