I think the design in this game is the best out of any trails game so far
The new engine made it better. Well to be honest I'm excited for the two more games in Calvard that will involved other regions. A lot of older characters will also be there. Fie in Kuro No Seki is top notch and the best of her design yet

Damn i kinda wish they would go back to old pattern like having 2-4 MC at max. They all look very interesting but i don't want any of them to be another elliot or gaius. Unless they're making the game significantly longer, it's gonna be another CS casts. Big cast yet so little character development
I think it should be fine, this is about the same number of party members that Sky SC had. FC has one less, if anything the only outlier is Zero with it being the only game with 4 party members.
It's actually a pretty standard cast in term of number, so far really CS (I and II especially) is the onlly part where this series fall into to "Quantity ove quality" mistake giving you 11 characters right away with some being completly underuse.

From what we've seen, I don't think they're supposed to be part of the main group all the time (unlike CS). They all have distinct occupations too. I think Falcom also alluded to the cast being smaller this time so let's hope that's true.
Gaius is gonna be more interesting now. He's a freakin' Ouroboros spy inside the Church (Barkhorn is an Anguis, possibly Thousand Oathbreaker, and passed him his Stigma), what can possibly go wrong with it?
