    OK so let's get this straight, this battle is NOTHING like your last encounter with Lorence, this is easily the HARDEST boss battle in the game. To give you an idea of how hard this is, you can lose this battle and still continue (though you will lose BP), this is the only time the game allows you to do so (and for good reason).
    Info:
    Lorence luckily does not use the Body-Split Craft to summon clones of himself, nor does he use his attack Craft. But on the other hand he has a lot of new abilities to make up for that. First thing that you will notice is his amazing speed, he can easily go twice in a row which is saying a lot in this game. If one of your teammates is in the middle of casting an Art he can interrupt the WHOLE party with Zero Storm. On the other side of things he has multiple new Arts that aren't even in the Bracer Notebook. Anti-Sept Zero, Silver Thorn, and Earth Guard Mk.2. Anti Sept Zero Mutes the whole battlefield, Silver Thorn not only does a decent amount of damage but it can also Confuse your party, Earth Guard Mk.2 blocks TWO attacks instead of one, and to make matters worse his Tearal now heals a whopping 1800 HP (this coupled with his unholy casting speed can make for an endless battle). To top everything off he has an S - Craft. This S - Craft can easily kill off your whole party if you're not careful, luckily he has to be close to you to use it.
    Strategy:
    For starters you need to make sure that everyone has equipment to resist Mute and Confuse (Lily Necklace, and Glam Chocker). Kloe HAS to have the Gladiator Belt and a Grail Locket. EVERYONE should have Clock Up EX on their Art list - don't even bother trying to win this fight without it. Kloe should use her Kaempfer Craft on Lorence, and there should be absolutely no point in this battle where he is not debuffed. Estelle should be attacking with Hell Gate, you honestly don't need Earth Wall for this battle as a lot of his attacks are brought down to zero if you debuff him. The only thing Scherazard should be doing is attacking with Blue Impact, and lastly Kloe should be using Kaempfer almost 100% of the time (since it only lasts about three of Lorence's turns), and maybe using Blue Impact once his HP is low enough. If at any point Lorence casts Earth Guard Mk.2 everyone should use something along the lines of Soul Blur to waste up his Max Guards. This is also the first time I guarantee that you have to use those Critical turns properly on S - Breaks. Make sure Estelle and Scherazard are always at 200 CP, and even Kloe should always be prepared to use her S - Craft in case Lorence uses his. Just remember, the longer the battle goes, the more guaranteed you are to lose your Clock Up EX and lose.
    Note: For the party member options after this I chose Kloe and Olivier due to their powerful ATS, I advise you do the same.

      If you keep him debuffed and use Morale (which in FC buffs arts as well as physical), your casting spam is very likely to outdamage his heals. Bare minimum, it keeps enough pressure on him to stall for a good turn bonus for Barrage.

    1:16 "You see only the surface, like that of a quartz grid... with no concept of the forces at work within."
    Great lines with deep implications. The orbment system is such a nicely built world concept in Sora, which reinforces itself in regional and national economics, in technology, and in battles. I miss the logic and reasoning in writing and world buildup. True masterpiece.
    The series after Sora, unfortunately, homogenized the concept to a mundane general term as "resources". To refer back to the Loewe's quote, only the surface of the concept has been carried over to the later works.

    There's an alternative 'cheap' strat that would also work if you are slightly underlevel, the AI for this guy goes nuts when it comes to stopping your arts, use (I recommend Schera) one of your characters as bait so that he will LITERALLY cast Zero Storm each turn - it's really simple AND embarrassing at once.

    • @BigKlingy
      @BigKlingy Před 7 lety +7

      Trust me, I've tried this strategy. It's not all that reliable, since Lorence is so fast he'll sometimes get his turn again right after Zero Storm, and use it on Earth Guard EX or Tearal. With a lot of luck you CAN trick him into wasting most of his turns on Zero Storm, but it relies on getting lucky with the turn order.

    • @barnkil8029
      @barnkil8029 Před 6 lety +6

      Um... did you even pay attention to the video? He was using arts every turn he wasn't debuffing him with Kloe (and you absolutely have to debuff him because his S-craft will destroy you). So how exactly are you supposed to lock him into using zero storm besides being lucky with the turn order?

    • @waypointb
      @waypointb Před 5 lety +2

      @@barnkil8029 By having your "bait" character unequip her Cast quartz. Lorence's speed lines up pretty well with unbuffed cast time, and you can always choose a longer or shorter cast spell to calibrate to his turn order. So you're very likely to catch him in a loop of interrupting the same slow caster over and over.

    @Gath1s Před 9 lety +2

    Awesome strats and good to see a few other people doing nightmare no carry over! Just wanted to check that your use of blue impact/hell gate was due to an increased 'recovery' time after arts? Reason being is that I don't remember getting in turns as quickly as you and was only able to get past him with timing earth wall before demon flames, some fortunate critical turns, and of course, minimal tearal spamming (my levels were the same as yours).
    Also, I had a look at some of your other videos and was wondering if you were purposely neglecting the use of chaos brand for added difficulty? From memory I was using it on bosses as early as the Capua family and get the feeling I would have needed much more luck in some fights without it. Cheers and let’s hope SC isn’t too far away!

    • @ZakuranHD
      @ZakuranHD  Před 9 lety +2

      Kyll Schomberg
      Yes i used Blue Impact and Hell Gate because they don't add in any extra cast time. Higher impact Arts such as Titanic Roar or White Gehenna add in 10 to the normal cast time of 30 (there are also some that add in 5).
      As for the second question: in my opinion I see Chaos Brand as a really cheap Art for most battles, so in a way I guess you can say that it was to make battles more difficult. Though at the same time I can't say I would blame someone for using it, as there definitely are battles in which winning is probably impossible without it.
      Thank you for your support! And yes I really hope SC comes out this Summer.

    • @LilithElessar
      @LilithElessar Před 7 lety

      Haha, funnily enough, I'm playing it at Nightmare mode. The playthrough I watched at Hard mode was already an ordeal. And just saying, the Prologue requires specific preparation, smart use of items, and a lot of luck or you're not getting past them. XD

    • @BigKlingy
      @BigKlingy Před 7 lety +3

      I... found that out the hard way. I got to the boss, got destroyed, though I could make it easier by cooking some Surprise Cookies... only to find I lacked the ingredients and the shop girl is kidnapped at that point. I did eventually win, but it required extreme luck.
      And seriously, screw NPC quests. On Hard or above, everything oneshots them, so sometimes you can lose battles before you get a chance to do anything if the enemies move first and choose to attack the NPC. Getting through that, you're forced to keep them Earth Guarded them at all times, which wastes valuable casting time and EP.

    • @LilithElessar
      @LilithElessar Před 7 lety

      Still, I enjoy Nightmare mode. I feel like finally an RPG is actually punishing. Final Fantasy nowadays is way too easy, Tales of you can change difficulty if your level is too low, or make yourself a favour and craft crazy gear. I feel like "minor" RPGs have much more to say in terms of difficulty than the famous ones. And in this one, you're never OP in your first run, so you have to push your way through fights by changing strategy and see what works (in this game, mostly Strength Food). XD

      @waypointb Před rokem

      @@nehuen7949 Most of Lorence's attacks hit very low already, and since the damage formula is linear reduction instead of proportional it's fairly easy to kick something from low damage to 0. It's the same reason that even small STR buffs have an outsize effect against very tanky enemies, because you're already "past" their defenses and the _entire_ gain from the buff goes directly into damage. Also Kaempfer's debuff percentage was bloody massive in this game that got nerfed in later games.
      Lorence is already a weird fight where he hits fast and often to mid health, then spikes you suddenly with S-Craft. But since that's the only thing he has that hits high to begin with, it means everything else is easily reduced to 0.

      This is an extremely lucky boss AI pattern + double critical node which is even more ridiculous. I think it's actually NM but one in a couple thousand attempts NM. The boss typically tends to not waste as many turns trying to cast silver thorn for sure, usually it's tearalls galore the moment he takes even the slightest bit of damage. There was also a distinct lack of health nodes which really make this fight super annoying. Again, lucky. But you kind of need this sort of luck to kill him

    this guy commented about how easy this fight is, talking like its practically free and it's his strategy that made it seem so easy, completely ignoring how he got 2 lucky crits in a row while lorence got nothing. I personally Hate this boss fight. I don't consider it hard, since I spent a good hour in my first encounter with him because of the aformentioned endless nature of the combat. There's something to be said here about a fight where both you and the enemy have endless resources. It's honestly the weakest design choice from every game and usually results in one shots or other balance problems. Anyway Since neither of us could hurt eachother, and I did not have the equipment advantage at all I was forced to use a different but similar tactic, and then I realized that tactic is exactly why some people can BTFO lorence and others like me get our shit wrecked. Lorence AI is kind of shitty. I had a kloe without the grail locket, and a condition voulnerable scherazard. Because of that voulnerability, I eventually figured out the strategy and timing of keeping her away from the main party and using her to physically attack, since she was usually too far away to comfortably be healed. If you do this, lorence tends to target the opposing party occasionally too often with really bad turn wasting decisions. His healing is still a problem, but with seig and morale s crafts, an occasional blue impact, It's possible to take him down without even using S-crafts. I found this out after about a full day of trying different strategies. I'd hazard I was in a much worse position than the video, since even if I was a full level above him, I lacked many immunities and also more importantly did not have the black sepiths to craft all the good action quarts you need for this fight. Hes definately a frustrating and infuriating boss, so much so that I was apopalectic. but I place most of the blame on the far too leniant item system. Realistically this awful battle is awful primarily because it is very likely that anyone who gets that far will realize it can go on forever. All the hype of the battle theme and set up and all of your casting of arts and then you realize this battle has been going on for literally over an hour and no one has lost any meaningful health. It doesn't make you feel like you are fighting an opponent who is too strong for you. It stinks like the game wants you to find one needle specific way of winning. At that point all of the frustration of not being able to pass it drove me insane with rage. who the hell thinks this is fun? This terrible experiance with this shitty game (not the story) makes me understand why people hate the third, and I really hope they don't keep pulling this shit. It is a powerful learning experiance though. The game hits such highs and such lows with massive time wasting fluff in the form of the random battles and certain other sore points that it's a really great teaching tool for how not to design a turn based tactical RPG. Ironically in this entire game THIS SINGLE FIGHT and my lack of buying all the annoying immunity items for wanting to see which enemies did what when and avoid having to refight a boss I spoiled on to change my equipement, WAS THE ONLY FIGHT WHERE MOVING A CHARACTER WITH THE MOVE COMMAND ACTUALLY HAD A DECISIVE TACTICAL OUTCOME. There is so much wrong with this shit show that I can write a book about it, so I'll just end my rant here. Heres my middle finger to the author of this video who is holding up his double crit as an example video. As someone who struggled with far less and still won without S crafts, I don't doubt he could do it without, but posting a video about strategy when its clear you won primarily because of extreme luck is laughable.
