Thanks for that rail excursion around the Island RJ! And congratulations on the aquisition of that custom H15-44! That's a good-lookin' piece o' gear!
    Fun video, thanks again!

Hi RJ, great video! Lionel really did do a wonderful job with these H15-44's. I have the Rock Island model but have yet to unbox it. Those Long Island passenger cars look sweet! Take care. Bill B.

Congrats on the latest purchase. Some of my favorite locomotives coming out lately aren't even in the Lionel or MTH catalogs. The stores that are doing custom runs are giving the silent majority of RR enthusiasts an outlet to get the things they really want. I ordered a custom run from Mr. Muffins while at the York show. It's the only way we can get things we want.

Really nice looking locomotive. Paint colors are accurate ... except the underframe should be very dark green, not black. All LIRR Tichy scheme locomotives had dark green underframes when new. After a few months of service the green weathered to grimy black.

That battleship grey color . Would actually be called haze grey... Its the exact color the navy uses on their ships

Officially from the Long Island Rail Road archives: the grey paint during the Tichy era is "light slate grey."

That Central of Georgia of unit has a great paint scheme. The LIRR was a sucker for FM locomotives so I am too

The Long Island railroad freight service with so poor that when they turned it over to the New York and Atlantic they only had eight thousand car loads per year. When the New York and Atlantic took over and gave them good customer service they went up to 37,000 car loads per year. The MTA was not expecting this. They were used to dealing with a short freight train here and they're not trains running every day. It goes to show what good customer service will get you.

The Long Island railroad was always broke running commuters was always a money-losing proposition and the Pennsylvania railroad could not wait to unload it onto the state of New York. A Fairbanks Morse diesels that the Long Island railroad bought were against the orders of the bankruptcy commission. I had two uncles who retired from the Long Island railroad. I wanted to be a motorman for the New York City subway 🚇. I had a friend who is a motorman and I would wait until his train came and he would let me in the cab and I would practice. He said when I graduated high school drop his name at the hiring Hall and my application would go to the top of the list.

Excellent video RJ. I’m from Long Island myself, and grew up in Bethpage. I can remember that grey and orange paint scheme very well from when I was a little boy back in the 1960’s. My father worked with FDNY downtown, and he used to take the train from Hicksville, to Penn Station. You’ve got me intrigued to go to Trainland in Lynbrook to purchase one of these. It’s a beautiful locomotive, and very unique as well. I always liked that “Dashing Dan” cartoon character, along with “Dashing Dottie” cartoon character that came later on. Did they put any of those decals on the locomotive? Just curious. If Trainworld could make a custom run of the “End of Steam” #35, and #39 G-5 steamers, and a #1556 RS-3 diesel in the grey and orange paint scheme, I would run to the store to pick those up as well. Great job with your video, and your L.I.R.R. collection!!

The Tichy paint scheme was gone by 1957. LIRR then had a dark gray and orange paint scheme through most of the 1960's.
