    My dad rembers when he was little living in Garrett Co along the Casselman River seeing a shay running on the other side of the river hauling logs for a short line in that area

    It's FLrailroaddog. Jorge is a great guy and a great friend of mine. He did a great job on these easy to assemble Kits. They look nice running with your Shay. Living in WV we go to Cass alot. Heading back again this year.

    Love the new addition bro!! Being the Western Maryland connoisseur that I am, I have a soft spot in my heart for Shay number six.
    I really love the way that you incorporated the footage that you got from your trip to Cass! I think it’s great to not only be able to showcase the model but also the real thing as much as possible, especially if you have footage of it. I was very impressed with those cars that you custom made like the ones that Cass has👍🏼.
    One quick note that I wanted to make you aware of being a hard-core western Maryland steam era modeler and history lover, is that No. 6 actually wore the fireball logo for many years at the Cass Scenic railroad during the 1980s and 1990s when Artie Barkley was the engineer and chief mechanical officer, running number six. I’ve got footage of it on a DVD that I have on the history of Cass. So I just wanted to update you on that in case you didn’t know.
    Again my friend, really enjoyed it! - Drewski

    This is awesome! The fact that the flatcar kits are easy to make AND cheap is nothing short of a miracle in this hobby haha
    I get the feeling that my (beautiful amazing) girlfriend would laugh at post-editing RJ

    The Chesapeake & Allegheny Live Steamers out of Baltimore Md hosted a rail fan excursion every spring before the Cass scenic railroad would open for the tourist season. I partook in those excursions from 2003-2011. Got a lot of great photos and video of the Western Maryland shay and shay #11. I have the MTH proto 2 version that I run on my layout from time to time. Thanks for sharing and running the latest version from MTH!

    Thanks for this great review and visit to the Cass Scenic Railroad, RJ. Very beautiful scenery in the fall in Western Maryland and the history of #6 was a great intro to the MTH model. A really great looking engine and fascinating to watch. Those scratchbuilt (?) Cass passenger cars are superb!

    As a decades long railfan RJ, it was your awesome video here that educated me on Shays. Prior to watching this, I had no idea! Great video - so informative creative and entertaining. So many great angles of that amazingly cool locomotive! BTW I love your layout. Did you hand paint your scenery? Also a very cool thumbnail too. That's great that you got to ride on the Cass Scenic as well!

    Excellent video. I've never been to Cass to see the Shay's, which is something that I plan on remedying soon, since I retired from the railroad last year. Watching the Shay running was so cool The geared locomotives are pretty neat, with Heisler and Climax being the other major ones. You could point out that the reason that they made it with an offset boiler was twofold. All of the drive train being on one side is one and the fact that they had to balance the weight is the other. Once again, an excellent and informative video.

    • @rj.trains
      @rj.trains  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I actually didn't know what the boiler is offset! Thanks for the information!

    It would be nice if some excursions were ran from Baltimore to Frederick on the old B&O mainline with rail traffic so low until bridge debris is cleared to open the Port back up. Even a couple weekend MARC runs would be great

    • @rj.trains
      @rj.trains  Před 4 měsíci

      I wish Marc would run on the Capital Subdivision out to Harper's Ferry on the weekend every weekend, but one can dream.

    • @wayneantoniazzi2706
      @wayneantoniazzi2706 Před 4 měsíci

      MARC runs aren't too likely. If I'm right it's CSX trackage and CSX doesn't like passenger operations, they wouldn't run Amtrak if they could get away with it. So at this time any MARC operations on CSX are limited to where they run now and that's it.

    Just so you know RJ I hit the "like button" before I even watch the video, that's how consistantly good you are!
    OK, that being said...
    A great aquisition that "Big 6" Shay! What an exquisite piece of work! And so what if it's got a Western Maryland "Fireball on the cab the real one doesn't have, it looks like it belongs there just the same.
    AND I was wondering what those Post-War trucks were doing on those Cass cars so thanks for explaining it.
    Cass is one of those places I've got to get to one of these days. The last time I saw a Shay in operation was back in the mid-1960s (I was 12 years old) on the Pine Creek Railroad at Allaire State Park in South Jersey. It's a narrow gauge engine, and maybe it was the nature of the soil but as it rolled past I could feel through the soles of my feet a sensation like the engine was hammering the ground. Wild, to say the least! Pine Creek still has the Shay but unfortunately it's not operational.
    Always a good day when you post! Thanks!
