  • Well time to rip off a video idea from my good friend Chris' Trains and Things, so it is time for my own "Hobby Shop Hop" to my favorite local train store here in the Washington DC area. If you see something you like and want to check out this amazing inventory of N Scale, HO Scale, O Scale, and G Scale Trains.

Hey, RJ, thanks for the brief tour of Toy Trains and Collectibles. It does look like a neat train shop and one that would be fun to visit. After watching your video, I did a little research on the web, and it appears Toy's R Us was established in 1957. I'm not for sure when the mascot "Geoffrey" was adopted but it seems that he really became well known in the 70's and 80's so a PC or Conrail trailer flatcar would have been more appropriate, but what the heck. The NYC car looks great and MTH's Toys R Us trailer is very cool! Like always, I enjoyed watching your video! Bill B.

Thanks RJ! Enjoyed the tour and your new car. It's great! Both the car and the trailer! And thanks for the bits with Maple! The cameo close-up of her was a fun bit!

nice shop, Great with in-house Lionel service. By the way there were still lots of NYC freightcars when Conrail was formed. You could, if you don't care for the value on the collectors market, Patchpaint the freightcar over the NYC mark and use a simple conrail decal on the repainted area. thanks for the video ! I have seen some freightcars that Lionel patched for Conrail....

Personally I don't worry too much about the collector's market, by the time any of my stuff's worth heavy money I'll be dead! 😵

You think Maple's demanding? Wait until you've been owned by a Basset Hound! 🤣🤣🤣
But we wouldn't have it any other way, now would we? 🤩
Sure, I remember Toys "R" Us! Although I was a bit old to be Toys "R" Us kid at the time. They used to be all over, at least until the founder sold the business and the buyers loused it all up!
Anyway, that's a good looking flatcar and trailer combo! I GUESS you could solve the New York Central "problem" by weathering the car and saying Penn Central hasn't gotten around to painting it yet but why bother? It looks good as is.
Hey, where'd the home made Italian tricolor on the fridge come from?
Fun video RJ! If I'm ever in Manassas I'll have to take a look at that shop!

Thank you Wayne! The Italian flag came from my college days. My last year of college was all remote due to COVID and long story short, I had a professor who said some pretty crappy things about Italian Americans. As an Italian American, that was my silent protest for the rest of the semester. Just never got around to taking it off the fridge all these years later haha

      @@rj.trains Bellisima! That's showin' him!
OBVIOUSLY that prof has NO idea that American quisine was saved by the influx of immigrants from Italy around the turn of the 20th Century! Otherwise he'd be eating overcooked and overboiled English fare!
My Italian grandparents arrived here in 1920, 103 years ago. It hardly seems possible.

@@wayneantoniazzi2706 the funny part was the professor was actually the University Chaplin. His comments revolved around Columbus Day being terrible and anyone who celebrates it under any circumstances, even as a celebration of Italian American achievements, is racist and yada yada yada. Considering I went to the most liberal school in America, my complaint would have fallen on deaf ears.

@@rj.trains Oh brother. Don't get me started. And I thought it was bad in the early 1970s.
As the Irish side of me would say "Jesus, Mary and Joseph!"
Hey, it may have been the most liberal school in America but at least you came away with a saleable degree, too many poor kids your age don't. And the sad thing is the schools don't care.

If you want inspiration, check out Rod Stewart’s model railway layout, Google images. 124 ft long x 23 ft wide, set in New York, Chicago, 1940s America. Took him 25 years to build it. I’ve never seen anything quite like it, quite unbelievable !
