  • I CANNOT CATCH A BREAK!!! In today's episode of the CHEAP Mk5 GTI Build, I'm getting the guys at Prestige Auto Works to fit a cold air intake and flash an APR stage 1 tune on my CHEAP MkV Golf GTI! And of course, with my luck, it breaks... again! :')

    Reverse light is not broken. I thought the same about mine. It's just that only 1 of them is a reverse light and the other is a fog light.

    Enjoying the series Matt, I’ve got a 2010 Octavia RS stage 1, loving it.
    Personally I’d love to see you review 10-15 year old cars like you do new cars, just for a laugh. Might help first car buyers too.

    mmmmm it was the diverter valve for me ;) This part is very very common to break. I just upgraded it to an gfb valve and the car is pushing again!! I hope i can help someone in the comments.

    I've owned one man..Never again,spent heaps of money on it and ended up have a busted piston.If the pistons no good that would effect the power.Have you done a compression test?

    Holy moly that's expensive i own a mk5 golf GTI love it do most of my own service and repair only got my cambelt water pump thermostat and dsg gearbox service cost about 2k

    Probably Diverter Valve. Stock revision can't handle anything higher than stock boost and normally leaks. Mine gave out after a week stage 1

    I can’t recall, did you test the 0-100 time before the tune? Based on your and Jacob’s subjective impression when you first took it out after the tune, there was an improvement.

      I didn't! But there was an improvement, though mostly to sound and throttle response... I don't even want to know what the 0-100 was before the tune :(

    Nice Video, I took my Manual MK5 GTI 08 to Prestige Auto Works also about 3 years ago got the same APR Tune and CTS Turbo Intake and I'm really happy with it!

      @@CarSauce I went with sachs performance clutch, and it’s going hard, apr down pipe on stock exhaust, definitely recommend mate, and do a carbon clean!!!!

    I’ve got a mk5 sitting idle out front. The wife updated to a mk7.5 but I can’t bare to part with the Mk5 so I’m using it as the runaround. Thought about doing some mods…but now I think probably best to just leave it stock and enjoy it for what it is. They can end up being money pits…German cars! I’m enjoying watching your adventure with the golf and can’t wait to see where it ends up…car and cost. As nice as the newer model is, I just love the older car for being what a car should be without all the fluff and extras. Good luck with the project and hopefully those pockets are deep 😁👍

      I will say it's been a few weeks now with a few developments, and despite the costs, I'm very happy 😊

      @@einfelder8262 agree. The mk5 feels nimble and quick whereas the mk7.5 feels muted. The 7.5 is the quicker car but I enjoy the feedback from the older car...although it does rattle a bit now. I’ll have to get the mechanic to put it up on the hoist and check all the bushes next time it’s in for a service.

    Have you considered a PCV Delete and getting a GFB diverter valve? Both issues I had with my car, and after doing them it pulled a lot better. Also relatively inexpensive and possible to fit yourself!

      @@CarSauce a few choice mods too - wing mirror indicator upgrade (makes the mk5 look more modern and inexpensive), head unit (just got an RCD330 from Aliexpress with apple CarPlay and it’s brilliant), and changing the front fog light surrounds for those with air intakes rather than solid.
      Love the videos, keep up the good work, looking forward to see how it comes along :)

      Pcv delete is the worst thing you can do, it'll burn oil like its going out of fashion

      @@MikelDog This. Just switched back to the stock PCV system after running a PCV delete and catch can for a while, burned/leaked oil like nothing else until I restored it to stock!

    the CAI caused a long term fuel trim to go nuts and cause misfires.
    It's the worst thing to do to an FSI.
