Project GTI starts...NOW!
First Comment :D
Would be cool to see a wrap done on this.
Thanks for tuning in!
after the TCU remap did the dsg farts go away? some people claim that you lose the farts
Nope!
How much can I ask a stage 1 tune would cost? And would your mpg be better? I have a mk 6 GTi manual...daily driving gentley I'm getting 32-34 mpg.. 😬
It didn't loose any power from new its 200ps 197bhp from factory
👍🏻
Stage 1, massive on a mk5 gti. Better performance but better fuel economy too
At least you don’t have to go down the uprated clutch route, one benefit of the dsg I guess
another benefit is that it's faster then a 6 speed
No, but he will have to go down the replace the mechatronic unit or the entire gearbox route 🤣 because those boxes are made of toffee
@@maverick4177 so wrong
@@maverick4177 from my understanding the dsg's can hold more power than the standard. Mechatronics issues are pretty much non existent now a days but back in the mk5 days they did have since issues.
Other benefits of the dsg, quicker to 60, quicker in the 1/4 and can hold power better even modded... So if "performance" is what your after the dsg is the transmission to get in a GTI... Now if your into that purity bs then yeah get the manual. I buy what gearbox is best for the car. In my lancer evo days yes standard gearbox the way to go... On the gti it's the dsg😎
I'm looking at getting one of these as a fun daily driver!
The GTi got spicier! The build is going to be interesting!
It sure is! Can’t wait for this project
Nice one Luke, next mod exhaust 😉
@@hampshirephoto really cause where is this project now
@@hampshirephoto how much for this stage 1 remap please??
Crazy how a Stage 1 can change the car so much! Looks so clean too
Mate, it’s transformed it! An extra ¼ of the power!!
I wonder what it feels like to drive sensibly on stage1 ecu tune along with the dsg tune? I heard that you actually get better fuel economy.
From experience I’d say about a 15% increase
I’m loving watching your GTi journey, having owned a couple myself in the past. Makes me want to buy another one!
Thank you! Do it!!
After driving a "Wild Child" Speed 3 (that's what it was unofficially dubbed by its developers) for 7 1/2 years, my first drives in my new MK 7 Golf R seemed a little too sedate and underwhelming (as if nearly 300 HP could be considered as such). Two weeks into my Golf R ownership, with under 1000 miles on the ODO, I took the car back to the dealership's tuner shop and had an APR Stage 1 tune put in. I'll never forget the "Holy Sh*t!" moment I had the first time I got on the gas, even holding back as the car wasn't fully broken in yet. Tuning is a wonderful thing!
Can’t wait for the ko4 conversion
Awesome to see you finally got Stage 1 and TCU tune sorted! Im thinking of waiting getting the dsg tuned until if maby i will go Revo Stage 2 for the GTI Clubsport. Currently at BSR Stage 1 which been working flawless though 👍
Hey Luke. Enjoying the videos of your mk5 gti. I've recently bought myself one as a peoject/daily runner and looking forward to doing some mods myself. Stage one map is defo on the cards. Look forward to the seeing what else you do
Thanks buddy!
What head unit is that?
Really prefer this era of Gti's they are so much fun !
Agreed!
What’s the gti like on fuel after the map ?
Inb4 you get bucket seats and you no longer have a sensible daily 🤣
😂
What tune did u do ?
Had a Revo ECU and TCU on Friday on my Mk5 GTi and my reaction was the same as yours. Massive change to the car and you have to wonder why VW didn't do something closer to this out of the box.
Did you do yours stage 1? I'm thinking to go revo for mine but mine is a manual. What did you get out of it?
@@GassGar it's about 245bhp based off of feel compared to others. Defo worth doing!
@@MehMeh sounds like a good shout.👍🏾 Definitely will be doing that especially I've got an induction kit on mine
Very good Luke... get them brakes sorted next :-)
Thanks Mark! Plans are in place
What brakes would you get?
i see a lot off people going for a stage 1 is it really safe and no damage to the car and would you have to get the DSG done with a stage 1 ??????
K04 next 🙈👍
How much would this cost ?
Hey mate, was this done before or after a new timing belt/water pump?
How's the detail of the paint held up on the car? Still looks great.
All good! So easy to maintain now too
@@hampshirephoto can you disclose the price for that detail service?
Put it this way mate if you go absolutely mental on this car from power to stuff like air ride and wide body kits, the amount of views and clout it will bring to your channel would mean you would be over 100k subs by the end of the year. But keep going mate love the tuning and exhaust content!
Haha thank you buddy! Not sure I’ll go that mental on this one, but I’ve still got some spicy things on the way 😎🐌
Please don't do any of this!
Putting A car on air will get him over 100k subs?🤔😂
@@MrCharlan1 u watch
Oh the gear change will be spicy alright.....just before you get the dash full of flashing red squares when the mechatronic unit shits it’s self
Possibly, but maybe not. The transmission itself is stout it's the electronics that were hit n miss on the dsg's of yesteryear. He has a buddy there at the shop that did the tune. He gave it the green light to do the mods and if the mechatronics does fail?? then I'm sure he will have his friend fix the issue if it presents itself. The newer DSG's are much improved in this aspect and from a performance perspective the better transmission for the GTI😎
Do you have to inform the insurance after a re-map ?
Of course - it’s not standard anymore
@@WiresFanDrew 😂
Excited for this content bro
Great vid! You might have mentioned this but how much did your stage 1 cost? And also do you think it's worth the remap with a manual as well?
Thanks! You’d be best to contact QST direct for a quote. It’ll be even better with a manual!!
I have the money to buy a 2010 gti on offer up and it has 107,000 miles on it, is it a good idea and will it have any problems?
MK6 GTI have got timing chain issues on the early 2.0 TSI, so I’d have a look at having that replaced if it hasn’t already been done and the revised guides fitted
One thing about those TSI engines.. they respond so well to maps.. Its as if they've all been de-tuned at the factory in stock form..
How much?
Always in safe hands at QSTuning, I went standard to stage 3 in my my 7 R all I can say is #🚀
Absolutely 🙌🏻 Stage 3 in a Golf R is the dream!
@@hampshirephoto Alex worked his magic on mine 522bhp 622nm torque #🚀
Just something you may wish to look into Luke. Apparently as from September, the government are planning on phasing in E10 unleaded petrol to replace the current standard which is E5 due to emissions. The extra ethanol in E10 is supposed to be very harsh on engine internals and seals. Mpg is also slightly worse, although that won't bother you I'm guessing lol. All engines manufactured after 2011 are required to be able to run on E10 so shouldn't be a problem for most. With yours being a 2007 on 100k miles, it could be an issue, especially if its tuned. As I understand it, super unleaded will still be available , which will be a safer bet for older engines!!!!
Hey man love your content, are you gonna be planning another Monaco road trip in the m140i? Just cos I love those typa videos and I'm hoping to do that within the next couple of years as well!
U need to go in the new golf r car wow done a race in one and he think it’s running 340/350hp not 320hp and I can say that bloody shift mate good video u done there with the gti and what a difference in hp well done 👍
Loving your channel I’ve been considering getting mk5
Gti for my first to send to the 🌙
God bless bro 🙏🏽👍🏽
Thanks Adam!
Unrelated to the video, but do you see yourself keeping the m1 for a long while ?
Luke have you changed the filter and oil in your dsg before it was upgraded.
It was done recently yes
Does the TCU tune make a difference when driving in D mode or just when in S and manual?
Less noticeable, but the reason you get it done is for the manual shifts
Es bueno? Acortará la vida del vehículo?
Don’t bother K04 converting it, if you want a K04 car buy one that came with it from factory
I’ve done many K04 conversions on these cars, not one was reliable..... the BWA and AXX just simply can’t hack it despite what tuners tell you, don’t forget a tuning company is a business, they still have to make money, too many people put too much trust into their tuners.
Awesome video, nice work and good luck with all the future projects for both of your cars. Just a quick observation i have and that is about the PS/HP difference. Maybe you know that, but anyway... Ps is german for horse power, so its almost the same thing as hp except its just a little bit of a difference when calculating it because 1Ps = 0,986 hp. In other words the 200 ps the germans give as the oficial power figure for the mk5 gti equals 197 hp. So your gti has not lost any power. Hope im not being annoying with this comment. With that said i hope you enjoy the new found power to your gti and cant wait for future videos!
Thanks for the support and feedback! :)
do you need the TCU tune with the stage 1? or is it just for feel? just curious.
You don’t need it, but it’s definitely worth doing to get the most out of the car
Any plans for a German autobahn run with the M140i at all Luke (COVID restrictions permitting of course)?
As soon as I can, I’ll be there 👍🏻
How much did the ECU and TCU stage one cost ?
Message QST for a quote 👍🏻 Their details are in the video description
@@hampshirephoto You don’t know how much it cost ? My last remap was £300 I know that
@@Mr330d good videos but he doesn't seem to like telling anybody any costs for some reason?! Even if he personally gets them free or heavily discounted you would think it would be useful info for viewers.
@@coley240387 You’ll find this with most CZcamsrs they’ll get work done or a remap etc and somebody will ask how much it cost because they want the work done and the old generic “message them for a quote” comes out 😂
Free, that’s what it cost him, on the back of company brand exposure on past videos, flashing a map and a bit of Dyno time costs nothing anyway
Not just MrJWW who is dishonest or at best aloof
GTX TURBO!!!!!
I'm not sure why 100,000 miles is in the title suggesting it's high mileage... nothing out of the ordinary for one of these engines 😁
Pretty sure his has 90k on it from a previous video too
My mk5 has 174k and went stage 2 in november no problems. Just needs a downpipe and intake and regular maintenance. Timing belt and cam sensor really all you need to watch
@@Shortstahp Solid engines, the fuel pump bucket is also worth replacing. Much better than the 2.0 tfsi variant that followed with the timing chain/tensioner issues!
@@spainter1985 i agree, i think my fuel pump def needs a replacement. The thing i do notice right now is that carbon buildup too but overall man the dub is such a perfect daily 🤟🏼
@@Shortstahp In fairness same problem with any direct injection engine, quite a few companies are able to clean them nowadays without too much dismantling 😃
Was that a smoke puff at 5:16?
fuel
I know these TFSIs too well, yes it was, ans on these that’s a sign of a bad tune, not just anyone can map these cars
Remove the precat and you will add an extra 10-11bhp
Noooo should only ever get a gti tuned by r tech
Whilst I believe Rtech are the best for vag tsi (mine is mapped by them). Luke has done previous collabs with alex and he knows his stuff so he's in safe hands .... it makes perfect business sense for luke
R-Tech😂😂😂😂
@@lukepaul2763 ???
@@inter7373 I just love how everyone thinks R-Tech is the best
@@lukepaul2763 ok
I just did a stage one tune on my 2012 MK6 GTI. I purchased the Integrated Engineering tune. Everything else is stock. Performance gains are very impressive. Obviously more power and torque, but the updated throttle response is really noticable. I have owned the car since new, it has 49000 miles on it. This feels like it should have been delivered this way.
My only real concern is the clutch as mine is a manual transmission car. IE claims 39hp and 51ft/lbs. Other than giving my GTI that wow factor, it drives exactly the same as stock in traffic and normal conditions...... Put your foot in it though, it turns into a beast.
I highly recommend the IE performance tune!
performancebyie.com
You like it now luke? Haha more driveable?
Soooo much better! Still plenty of power to be unlocked though...
Haha you know that.
Admit it Looke, that BMW is about as useful as tits on a fish, the VeeDub is your favourite out of the 2 cars. And you miss the R so much. Just my opinion, but I think I’m right. (Ps. not a hater)
the M140i and M135i are some of the best value and funnest cars you can get, dunno what you’re on about
@@MrCharlan1 come on pal, if you’ve ever owned or driven a GTI or R you know that’s complete an utter hogwash
@@staycasual7203 I’ve owned 2 Mk5 Gti’s and a V5 mark 4, and now an M135i and the bmw is more fun for me, 3.0 litre 6 cylinder turbo and 320hp, I’m not doubting the mk5 is still was one of the best cars I’ve had hence I’ve had 2 of them
@@staycasual7203 and I can’t have an opinion on the R I haven’t driven one mate
@@MrCharlan1 fair comment, I do respect your opinion. I own a 7.5 performance pack and for me it’s the best £ for £ car you can buy, performance, practicality, economy, looks etc. Beauty is however in the eye of the beholder, so I respect your view. The 1 Series just isn’t for me, been in a couple of 140i’s and don’t get the fuss. Anyway, Peace ✌️
Someone tell Mr Clued up Mk5 owner that it was 197bhp Stock not 200 🤦♂️
Already noted in another comment. Simple mistake. 👍🏻
Cause those 3 bhp really make a difference... No need to be cocky mate
lol you’re not wrong there
@@hampshirephoto keep up the great work mate, really love the mkv gti videos 👍🏻

Great car and stage 1... Now all that needs doing is a remap on the driver..get some life in his commentary..
god you don't do a lot in your videos, the fucking intro and outro is 75% of it. content 5% and 100% tediousness
I don't know what came over me, I retract that, keep the grind
