What do you think it would cost to have this work done at a shop???? Im probs $4000 in parts into this repair. Luckily Paul installed it all for free. AHHA
I wonder this whenever I do a big job on my mk4 - I've probably done 30k worth of shop labor to it.
It would cost too much 😂
FACTS LOL @@azarahwagner2749
Last mk5 GT Tdi I worked on I was welding Rockers back on to it 😂😂
and you made him bleed for this car.
Paul and charles are like high school buddies who love cars and then grew up and still love cars. Feels like they been friends for decades
LOL We have been homies for a while for sure!
I've never seen Paul hate a project more. You can tell this isn't his video. Great job guys. Loved every bit.
Haha it accosted him throughout! Charles stabbed him, he sliced his finger and then almost got ko'd by the exhaust coming down!
You missed the Mustang series
Honestly, I love watching you guys " Mod first, fix later " very accurate!
LOL Thank you
Having done most of this on a previous MKV GTI, this was thoroughly enjoyable to watch the struggle. Nice to see how much easier this is in a shop with a lift vs in the street mid August lake Worth FL.
I'm so glad you do these videos and projects with Paul. It's like the good ol' VWVortex days on film.
Ahhh 'Poortex the site that has really fallen by the wayside these days
Had a friend/customer leave his heavily modified MK5 GTI at our shop while he went back to his home country, 10+ years later he finally came back and just gave me the car to deal with. So I gave it to a friend as a first car and we're in the process of rebuilding and replacing everything. Been fun so far! Loved watching this video!
"Don't forget to click the "Paul install" button" 🤣
I. Now have an idea for the project for my grand son’s first car. We will rehab an old car that is a runner. Clean and clear out the obvious and easy mess while tackling the mods surreptitiously over the course of a few weekends, and voila t😅he boy learns cars, maintenance and standards of care the will grow until he is older than I am now! Thanks for this terrific instruction video. You guys prove that cars are fun
the two of you together is a blast! you guys should make a series together if you haven’t already !
We have a bunch of videos together over the years. We should start a playlist for all of them.
I enjoy watching this kind of videos where you and Paul reunite forces to get back on the road junk VW.
I'm from Mexico City and I own a shop and sometimes I reuse all the hardware from the suspension, engine and transmission because my customers don't want to pay that extra money of getting new ones and don't want to wait the delivery time of the dealership.
Also a dad's friend that is an engineer inside the VW Assembly Plant of Puebla, told me that all the hardware has really good quality and could handle like 3-4 reuses before breaking, I had done that in like 300 VW cars without any issues but obviously is recommended to follow the VW repair manual.
Here in Mexico the hardware and a lot of parts is half of the cost that is US. But it takes 6 business days to arrive to my local dealership, so that's the reason a lot of my customers doesn't want to wait.
Greetings from Mexico City
Just echoing what others are feeling. Absolutely love you both in a video!
That being said, I also highly appreciate your individual videos as well.
Charles and Paulie D bringing us the best VAG content! Would be lost finding my way around my car, if not for you guys.
Thank you!!!! I really appreciate the kind words.
you guys have amazing chemistry, more vids with you two
Thank you!
I could watch u guys work on these cars all day! Very informative with a touch of humor..makes it fun to learn! Bought my first mk5 gti 3 years ago and i have literally done everything you guys did here and more ON MY OWN..i learned and tried many things I had never done before. Watching this video confirmed to me that i did good..and you guys have no idea how that makes me feel! So i salute you guys and appreciate the good work you guys do! Keep it up 👍
I'm blown away! This easily could have been at least 3 separate videos. I'll have to re-watch it many times taking notes.
Hell yeah!! I’m 2 weeks into restoring my 06 GTI. I bought it with no transmission and engine 6 years ago. Was looking specifically for an early white 2-door with blue glass. I planned a lot of mechanical work for whatever I bought anyway, so I looked and got a steal on a complete shell. I drove it for about 15k miles, and parked it under a car cover for the last two years.
Almost wrapped up with the suspension, ABS module and full brake refresh now. Then it’s onto getting the upholstery and some exterior parts replaced. It was just calling my name sitting in my driveway. When I was in high school in 2007 a neighbor had one and I for some reason fell in love with it. A fresh OEM+ 2-door MK5 GTI will always have a spot in my driveway.
watching you two together is hilarious.naturally funny and you bounce off each other effortlessly 😂
These are the best videos ever. Love the light hearted banter. I can only imagine the out takes that didn't make it past editing. Keep up the good work fellas.
.
Hahah there is some good on the cutting room floor.
You guys are easily my favorite collaborators on youtube
Great job guys love this series!
You two together are pure chaos, I love it! 😂
I'm filing assault charges against this MK5 after all the damage I took
As you rightfully should!!! 😂
Take it for all the car is worth.. the $0.35 and an empty bag on M&Ms
What about the stabbing incident?
Can you tell us the labour hours you spent on this?
You guys are my favorite GTI Info and entertainment. Not to mention parts and maintenance. Thanks for another great Vid.
I'm loving the mk5 series so far with you and Paul. Can't wait to see the next video and see Paul's work on the R32 .
This my favorite car duo hands down. Keep em coming!
❤
Love these videos guys, thanks! being an owner of a decrepit Mk5 myself, it's nice seeing what I'm up against when I inevitably fix mine up.
As someone who bought a used MK5 with an interior that’s in absolute shambles, I’m very excited to see a cleaning vid part 2 😁 as usual loved the video!
You guys remind me of me and my partner. We had a little repair shop in Brooklyn many cars ago. Y’all brought back priceless memories, thanks. This is one of the best videos on CZcams ever. Thanks again, RickGTI….. 🌴
Man this comment made my day!!!
Love this video! I inherited a gray mk5 a few years ago, still going strong!
This car was not owned by a human being.
I thoroughly enjoy yalls content. From personalities to editing. Its funny, educational, AND entertaining. @3:11 😂 i always think that about nasty interiors.
and I appreciate also that you upload to rumble. Please convince paul to throw his shop dap stuff on there too. Its as easy as uploading the already ready content you put up on youtube-PAUL!
Thanks Charles, and thanks Paul, and thanks camera guys and whoever edits. Well done all the way around!
@5:34 yall some regular CRUMBpleStiltskins
19:37 was Pauls opportunity to laugh at ya, but he was genuinely concerned for you! Thats a pal.
The delay of pain is always wonderful right!?
My housemate bought a wagon from a man who lived in it with his dog for months, the interior was so grim we stripped it out to bare metal. There were disposable vapes, mystery pills, suspicious white stains and so much dog hair and brown liquid. After we were done the only original bit was the plastic dash and the shifter mechanism but both were stripped out and cleaned. I feel your pain
This is just a couple of guys taking crap while working on a car and I’m 100% here for it!
It’s almost exactly like we are at our workshop.
Just with cleaner language!
HAHAHA The non-clean language happens. But I try and keep it a PG 13. in videos
@@HumbleMechanic I can imagine the directors cut of this video is 3 hours long with more swearing than South Park!
You 2 are quite the comedy show! Love the interaction! I think the car is coming along nicely. Those wheels are a perfect fit.
You two make a great team. Such nice guys and so knowledgeable. I dont even own a VW anymore (though the wife has an Audi) its just excellent entertainment.
Watching the two of you is a good laugh.. great work gents! That Mk5 has been drastically improved! Looking forward to the interior video..
love to see you and Paul work together, you guys are funny but still explain every process you do. I hope i'll be able to buy a car again soon to do mods like you guys ❤
Thank you!!! That’s always my goal with videos like this. Some fun, some learning, and hurting Paul 🤣
What a spectacular "real life" session... hilarious and educational. Great Stuff!! Thanks for sharing & creating smiles.
I love every time you guys have a project together!
We have a few more tricks up our sleeve
All that I have done to my MK6 GTI has gone well because of the "tricks" I've learned watching both of your channels. So I'm pretty sure you have plenty more coming.
1:06 Always practice safe clean cleaning by wearing a Haz Mat suit!!! 😂😂😂😂
very nice glad to see how well it looks. Looking forward to seeing how the interior turns out
Literally was waiting on the upload 🤙🏼👌🏼
I think YT is funky today. IT took FOREVER to upload
@@HumbleMechanic 5s after I opened yt it popped up. I was just on time👌🏼
Liquid molly engine flush is the best and the Ceratec definitely works . Love the work you guys do 💪✌️
Very good job!! I have the same car and it's very satisfaying how does a very good restoration. Take off and put the new bushings in the OEM control arms it's very challenging. Good video!!
This makes me smile. This was back when Volkswagens used to be interesting. Now they’re just like any other car you see on the road.
I don’t own VWs anymore but these videos are just chaos and hilarious
thank you!
Beautiful restoration guys!!!
Can't wait for the interior video!
Great Video! I'm about to do the same to my MK6 GTI that has been sitting for over 6 years... 👍🍻
You both should run a shop together !!! So awesome content all the time ❤
HAHA I Wonder if we would get actual work done.
Nice job fellas! J. Hunto approved. Thanks for sharing.
solid video! cant wait for more. already covered some of the things i need to do my mk5 that is just sitting in my yard. I will be enlisting my daughter to help me in the spring since she will probably be using it once she stars driving it.
NICE!!!!
Boy have I been waiting for this ❤
i love this series 😅
Enjoyed every second of this video.. I own an MK5 Jetta and will definitely get back to this video when I'm upgrading.. Many Thanks ❤️
Oh man the ol' blood glove, a hallmark of disassembling old German plastic components
Someone must pay tribute
Wow with those wheels and lowered it looks sick! Can’t wait for more videos
Fanbloodytastic work guys it’s great when you can bounce of each other it beats working alone ,when you work alone and talk to yourself your not daft your just having a boardroom conversation keep them coming guys great vid 👍👨🏻🏭🇬🇧
when Paul said "mucho nervouso" I laughed so hard my soul left my body. loved the video
Love the video guys. Its always fun watching the two of you working together, specially seeing Pauly running on fumes or high on fumes🤷♂️, I would love if you could do more videos on the 3.6 vr6 4motion drivetrain Charles, I feel like this engine drivetrain combo do not get much love. Especially the Passat
Im not sure when, but you are for sure gonna get what you want ;)
Brilliant guys the kids and I were loving it they couldn't stop laughing at ye both 😂thanks all the way from ireland ❤
Oh god, bringing back all kinds of memories to work I've done on my own MK5! Since you're already in there you might consider adding subframe collars and the better dogbone bushings. I found those plus the lower control arm bushings you did greatly improve how the front end feels and it won't clunk around.
Oh, Paul... talking about getting dirty - so many times getting locomotive dirt and grime in my arm pit, raining down on my face... Tasty stuff. 😂
Gas down my arm into my armpit might be my least favorite
my favorite generation headlights for the golf lineup has to be the either the mk4 gti headlights, more precise the aftermarket depo headlights with the projector low beam, those look really clean on a gti or the factory mk7.5 gti headlights,
Good work Charles and Paul💯👌👍🙏🙂
Great content!
Always loved that color. Great to see it almost alive again
I drove a normal 1.6l 102hp one for 6 years before it rusted through from the inside out without warning.
Loved it
Pauls getting beat the f up on this episode lol 😂
Im still in recovery
Absolutely loved this video!
Hi Charles. Common thing that I've experienced with the lack of power was that the diaphragm of the turbocharger air recirculation valve -N249- tears and doesn't give you a fault code. Love your content.
Love when u guys collab
Kind of impressed that you stuck with the protective suit bit for so long. At the height of covid i had to wear one for hours at a time at work and it was so hot and sweaty especially in summer.
Epic video guys.
For me, MKII is THE thing. ❤️
The only thing missing from under the seats was a crushed soft pack of Marlboro Lights.
I subscribed like 5 years ago when one of your videos described exactly how to fix my wife’s golf, and since then this is the first of your videos I’ve seen - 1 great content and 2- you’ve definitely lost weight.
Makes me miss my fahrenheit, 280000 miles 0 rust thanks to vw warranty. Ran like a top with over 250k miles on factory turbo.
i lovethe mk5 content
as a mk5 owner, its nice to see someone working so much on it.
Always great vids guys, good work!
With regards to carbon buildup due to the direct injection... Does this car need that as well?
The FSI wasn't as bad as the TSI! But we have some more maint to do so I will be puling th manifold to check.
Welcome to the Mk 5 Comedy Show. Loved this episode guys.
LOVE THIS VIDEO
basically everytime i mod the 2007 hi def passat its like one of your install episodes
i need that spreader tool and some of those other tools you guys had
did yall do the dogbone? or subframe puck?
I'm glad your old console bush housings came off so easily... so many stories in the UK of those bolts binding in the alloy subframe and snapping. I had to fit a new bush in one side of mine while it was on the car I'm replacing my top mounts and hubs/wishbones in a few weeks, so this was a great refresher.
I had it snap on mine, if you mean big bushing housing for the front control arm held by three bolts. I should have supported it when undoing the last bolt, got it slightly bent and it snapped off, luckily had enough thread left to put a nut on it and undo it all the way. Would have been a nightmare pulling off the front subframe on a driveway.
Fab video, you guys together are such good value. I suspect Paul may be increasing his life/disability insurance premium prior to the next instalment to cover any potential loss of limbs or eye sight!
Really love the passive-aggressive feelings about this MK5. Would totally watch an interior restoration with Paul freaking out every single second.
Hahah he got too scared of the interior
I can vouch; fresh bushings + ball joints and a proper wheel alignment are a game changer when it comes to the vehicle being smooth on the road.
Oh yea!! Still need to align this baby
Granted I didn't go with an aggressive wheel, but I've got the two-toned wheels on my '08 Rabbit [Tornado Red] from a newer ~'17ish? Jetta and love the look. I've got the headliner out and scrubbed, just need to do new material and the car could probably do with a repaint [a LOT of the clear coat is coming off now]. Also the door fabric on the driver side is pretty much off lol. Only 110k on it though!
Favorite golf gen headlights are the Mk7.5 👌🏾
You guys do great work i wish i had the knowledge and means to restore my 2008 gti i have the willingness and am somewhat mechanically inclined but i work two weeks a time away on river boats and im only home for one week at a time and just cant find time i just dont want it to sit and end up junked they are such iconicing cars wish i had someone like your guy's help
Howdy gents. Thanks for the content. Always appreciate the humble vibe.👌
I saw a vid today saying that Volkswagen has decided to stop making manual cars.👀😑🙄 Don't want to be driving no house hold appliance when everything goes electric. I will demand my manual vehicle. The people's wagen needs to think about all people. (I haven't done any more research about the whole no manual thing but it makes sense with electric cars so I'll probably have to learn to deal with it) if this is the case... I'm definitely going to be doing this with a friend. Even if it's a car I'll only be able to drive once in a while. I'll help him with his car and he mine...
No doubt, even in a few years this will probably still be an expensive endeavor, and a lot of effort, not only physically but also mentally. At least it's about the journey and not the actual end result.
Been waiting for this and the r32
@HumbleMechanic I just brought back to life a Fahrenheit GLI, the starter, rack and pinion, ignition tumbler and lock housing went bad, as well as the 12V power source diode spiked, all this happened within 6 months of me owning it, and I’m pretty sure it went bad before that, but after that cold snap of a winter we had here in SC, it all failed. Now I have to fix little things (my window seals make funny noises, my lock horn sounds like it’s dying, and my cruise control stalk failed which I caused when I swapped the ignition housing). After that, it’s modification time!
I love your videos, and my favorite GTI headlights are the the mk7.5 S trim headlights, but then again my favorite GTI is the 7.5 (I have a WSM, my favorite color).
My Fahrenheit is #581/1200
I used to work at Audi as a tech, but left to go to Hyundai to help an old service manager get his shop in shape.
You're making better choices HAHAH!
Any info about G13 damaging water pumps. Thanks for your reply.
From trash to luxury!!! Back from the ashes!
Though it was funny to see a little red dot of blood on Paul's forehead the whole video Charles should've offered at least a small batman bandaid or something. Safety first.
We only have My little pony.
I'm not in to VWs, at all... but this is one of my favourite youtube chanels!
Thank you!!!
Some of my favorite videos are when SHOPDAP comes in for fun...
Love this video guys ! :D
Looking forward to the interior detail vid!
Great video! Thanks
