How the 1999 Knicks made the NBA Finals as an 8th seed

  • The New York Knicks, what can i say about them? They are the biggest franchise in the NBA and even they have an underdog story. The 1999 New York Knicks were a fusion of old talent (Patrick Ewing, Allan Houston, Larry Johnson) and new talent (Latrell Sprewell, Kurt Thomas, Marcus Camby). On paper, this team looked like a beast but that wasn't the case. They just squeaked into the NBA playoffs. Then something historic started to happen. They joined the elusive club of being an 8th seed to beat 1st seed. But that's not why this team is so special, teams have done this before. The 1999 New York Knicks were a very special team, because they were the first and only team in league history to make the NBA finals as an 8th seed. An improbable story likely to never be seen again due to the various circumstances this organization was put in. They beat the heat, hawks, and pacers on their route to the NBA finals. In this video we are going to dive into the historic run the New York Knicks made in 1999

    I remember this knicks team. They still challenged my Spurs that year...had Ewing played that series it definitely would had went 7 game's for sure.

      I am a die hard knicks fan and I remember pretty much going into that series thinking we stood zero chance. The Spurs dropped only one game on their route to the finals. The twin towers were just unstoppable. I'd like to agree with you about Ewing but something tells me it would have still ended in 5-6 games. Ewing was just old and tired. Him being on the bench possibly even helped the Knicks perform better in the playoffs as Camby got more minutes and went to town. He was a beast. I think the Knicks might have beaten any other team in the league, but not those Spurs...NO CHANCE.

      thank you for at least acknowledging the Knicks would have put up a better fight with Ewing. That means a lot to us Knicks fans!!!

    99 Knicks run by far exceeds the 2023 Heat run. Im tired of hearing all these comparisons. Knicks did it first and they played Miami, Atlanta and Indiana. These were all top 4 teams and all fully healthy. Miami played the Bucks (an injured Greek freak) Knicks (an injured Randle and Quickly didnt even play the last few games) and Boston (an injured Tatum for game 1 but was ok) The Knicks run was historical. Miami not even close!!!

      Trust me if your a Heat fan or not, that bullshit run does not even touch the 99 KNICKS!! The shit they went through during that season leading to Van Gundy being fired IF they dont get far in the post-season. Allan Houston's game winner in game 5 followed by Ewings season ending injury during the Pacers series to just be uplifted by LJs 4 point play and Houstons incredible game 6 performance to take the Knicks to the NBA Finals!!! Nobody holds a candle to that historic run by the 99 NEW YORK KNICKS!!!

      @@SuperDman82 I get what you’re saying, especially since 99 had a strike shortened season but IMO saying who’s run is more impressive is subjective, due to the fact that both the Knicks and Heat ultimately still fell in 5 games to the 1 seed in the end.

    • @SuperDman82
      @SuperDman82 Před 8 měsíci

      Okay im going to dead this debate now for you. You ready? Okay. the 99 Knicks playing with a hobbled Ewing had to win 6 of their last 8 games just to qualify for the 8th seed. They beat Miami Heat, Atlanta Hawks and Indiana Pacers who were 3 of the top 4 teams in the east that year and guess what??? those 3 teams were all at FULL STRENGTH AND COMPLETELY HEALTHY!!! Miami wins against an injured Greek freak, injured Randle and Quickly and injured tatum with his leg in game 1 and wrist issues so theres no comparison!!! If your a Heat fan then thats the only reason you will say you think your run is better. Guess what? Its not!!!!@@RB01.10

      Miami had to win a play in game just to get in the 2023 playoffs lol and they knocked out the #1 seed bucks and took out the Knicks in 6 games the heat played with injuries and made it to the finals ,

      And just like the 1999 Knicks, they lost in 5 games in the Finals to a former ABA team (Nuggets) that won its 1st NBA championship.

      yea but you didnt do it first!!! You also didnt have the crazy rollercoaster magical run that the Knicks did annndd nobody was hurt during the Knicks run. They played everyone at full strength. Miami played against an injured Greek freak. An injured Randle and Quickly and an injured Tatum to get to the finals and get handed a gentleman's sweep by the Nuggets!!!
