  • A loop walk of just over three miles to discover Titsey Airstrip which I did not know existed until I saw it on a map. A bright, sunny, breezy spring morning and a pleasure to vidsit this area just inside the M25 between J6 and Clacket Lane Services.

Good news, Titsey Place reopens tomorrow, May 15th! As for the airstrip (GB-0472) it's shown as active for civil aviation, also stated as a Small airport. I'm surprised the Bourne didn't flood like it did the other year -- ‘When Croydone Bourn doth upwards ryse, disaster dyre before us lyse’ (Camden’s Britannia 1586) Have you ever been to the source of the Bourne? I read it's in Chelsham. In '78 when we moved from our village in Beds, Limpsfield Village was one option, instead my parents chose Selsdon.........I had grandparent in West Malling, and I remember seeing the M25 being built, I still prefer to take the A25 whenever I can.

Beautiful part of Surrey, not far from the noise and dirt of Croydon. Some glorious houses in the area. Use to visit the Bull at Limpsfield to drink draught Long Life and eat Planters peanuts in early 80s.
Is it worth reporting Surrey CC that the footpaths aren't in the right place or accessible?
I had never heard of Titsey airstrip. Google says it opened in 2005 by a local farm!
Have you looked at the airfield near WPH, in the field by Harrow Road. I think they flow microlights, googlemaps clearly shows it.
    Another really good video, thanks.

Cheers Andy, yes I will do a report. I did a few months ago on one in Hamsey Green but didn’t hear back from them although they may just update the website and that’s it done. Yes I know the Harrow Road one, and have seen microlights there in the summer. Probably worth doing a proper filmed walk in Limpsfield area one day - the list is getting longer!

Phil, I'm afraid I can't offer any help with info on the airstrip, other than to say we did this walk in the opposite direction in April '21. I also stumbled upon the airstrip from a map so had to investigate. The strip itself was more clearly defined but didn't look in good condition. I took a photo from exactly the same position as you and I will email it to you for comparison. Regards, Tony.

Thanks Tony. I discovered today that there was a Roman Temple not far from there so will no doubt return to see if it is possible to get close to the site.
