  • A revisit to Sanderstead to follow a Bourne Society walk put together by Joy Gadsby in 1997. Much remains but some pointers on the trail are no longer there. It meshes very well with my 2021 film and I hope you enjoy it!

The pond was an eyesore in the late 1950's.

Thanks for this great video Phil. You have really brought me home this time as I grew up in Sanderstead. Spent hours at the old rec playing football and cricket, went to Gresham and Riddlesdown. Your memory of the Gruffy is spot on, used to be very bumpy over there with well worn paths we would ride our bikes on. That whole area really hasn't changed much in 40 years.

As usual a very interesting walk lots of information. Reminds me when I was a teenager always out walking not like kids today on their computers 😊

A walk around Sanderstead - and why not? Home to one of the most popular cricket video channels on CZcams. Who would have thought it.

Another excellent walk and talk. I've noticed you make the occasional reference to mobile phone masts, Sanderstead is very good at hiding them, Vodafone have antennas hidden in the steeple of All saints church behind the slats on all four sides and EE use the sign at the Shell petrol station next to Waitrose to hide theirs, probably due to planning constraints.

Just somewhere I went through on the 403 to Croydon. Don't think I ever stopped to take a look, so this is a great video to watch.

Hi Phil, great video been a resident of sanderstead since 1972 and amazed to learn new things from your video. As for the manhole covers on the field overlooking Mitchley hill I`m led to believe that this was for a water system for proposed housing which was shelved due to the outbreak of war and lack of money afterwards and then the area was designated green belt ( obviously dont take that as gospel as I`m sure someone will have a better insight of this )

It's great to see a place in detail that I am so familiar with and yet knew little about until now...

I well remember the 2 Esso garages, the one that is now Majestic Wine repaired the engine of my 72 Humber Sceptre when one of the big ends went. Afterwards it kept blowing head gaskets so I got rid of it. That was around 1980/81 😅

In the 80s year 6 children from the Atwood School used to "Womble" the village pond removing all kinds of rubbish even a shopping trolley !!! On the plus side they also discovered fresh water clams. I suppose health and safety have now stooped this !!!

Another awesome nostalgic video. Played poker on friday nights with some good buddies in a house at the end of the long driveway seen at
